Covid-19 story
From March 2020 to January 2021 I have known 28 people who got the virus. Them getting the virus did not affect me very much other than the fact that it did make me get a little more frightened when people I know got sick. Me and me family have not gotten Covid-19 yet, but I have had to quarantine a few times. Living through this pandemic has been the worst year in my life. I could not see anyone I know and love, I could not go to school, I could not go on vacations of any kind, I had to wear an extremely uncomfortable mask, and there was nothing to do when I was stuck at home. Living through all of this for so long has made me really sad. I am basically just trying to get through one day at a time just waiting for this nightmare to end. -

Some Final Thoughts
Well this is it. Over all there are about 25.5 million cases right now. Just some final thoughts I hope that lockdown ends soon and that this NEVER has to happen again. Ugh it is so bad living in this pandemic, mask wearing, lockdown. So bad and so annoying. You can never do anything fun without a mask. Well I guess this is a time in my life I will never forget...EVER. It is bad but it is not the worst, I am just grateful that we at least get to go to school in person. Well it was wonderful writing these journals. -

Covid statistics
In the world there are currently 99.4 million cases and 2.13 million deaths. It's insane that in a little under a year so much damage has been done. The ratio of cases to death doesn't seem too bad if you think of it as numbers. But each number is a person, a person with friends and family who lost their life. In California there are 3.19 million cases, cities like LA with dense population are hotspots for cases. Living in California and very close to LA comes with lots of rules that others states have eased up on. It's hard to grasp the fact that so suddenly we are living through a pandemic. A lot of people have taken this time to improve their life and self but it has also messed up so many peoples lively hoods and metal health. Everyone's adapted to Covid after all this time and things are slowly going back to the original way. Before the first shutdown it was terrifying to think of what the future holds but now its become normal. Its going to feel strange going back. At the end of the day everyone is just trying to keep themselves safe and okay. -

rules and procedures
Through coronavirus many more laws have been applied. You now have to wear masks whereever you go. Another rule is that certain businesses cannot be open to limit contact. There is new rules at school like which way you can walk so you encounter less people. -

Covid19
The experiences of going through Covid-19 were not that fun I couldn't play any sports or see my friends that much also I couldn't see my Grandma and Grandpa when Covid-19 hit so that was not fun not being able to see them. Also, the school was only and I didn't really get the full feel of school because It was online school. I also think Covid-19 is just like the flu. I also don't know of anyone in my family who got Covid-19. -

The Push For Fitness
If there’s anything I learned in the last 8 months, it’s that the world is a very uncertain and chaotic place. A week before quarantine, spending a quiet week alone for Spring break, was all I wanted in life. 9 months later and another quiet week could potentially be lethal. Even though life has been crazy and online school drives people mad, one thing I’ve managed to pick up and get into the habit of is working out. Everyday, no matter what it is, I set aside an hour and a half to at least stand and go on a run or do any form of exercise. Not only is this good for my body, it’s a great stress reliever from a long unstable day of online school, a great time of reflection and a great way to clear my head from the day. Even in the most chaotic of days, and even on days where I have a lot of work to finish, I spend an hour to clear my head, and most times, after a workout and warm shower, I become more productive than ever. I enjoy working out as it is a great way for me to have something to control when the world around me is changing in the blink of an eye. Me four years ago would’ve never expected or predicted that, I would enjoy losing my breath and being sore from my neck down on a daily basis. Not only does it feel like I have control over my life, but working out has become a hobby of mine, acting as a goal I can achieve in the background subtly while dealing with school and life as a 17 year old. -

Costco Family Pack of Melona
At the beginning of quarantine, my friends would often bike to my house to drop off food. On one hot summer day, I gave my three friends bars of Melona and we ate together on my driveway. During that time, we had virtually no school assignments and had the freedom to do as we pleased. I began drifting from a lot of my friends as the time we used to spend together in class disappeared in an instant. Surprisingly, I made a lot of new friends in this online learning environment. I grew bonds with people I never thought I would talk to before. I strengthened the bonds with friends whom I have already been close with before quarantine. The image of my crooked Melona reminds me of the time when quarantine was just an extended spring break, a break from the stress of school and extracurriculars. -

Symptoms of COVID
In Quarantine I have had numerous friends who have had or experienced symptoms related to COVID-19. I myself have also had my fair share of symptoms. The weekend before quarantine, me and my family went on a long awaited trip to Disneyland. COVID-19 had made it's way to the USA but it had not yet become an international crisis. When I came home from Disneyland, I felt fine and went to school. On the third day of the week I felt very sick and stayed home. It was the day that it was announced school would shut down so I didn't have a chance to retrieve any of my things from my locker. My entire family got sick and my friend brought my stuff that I would need from school. We all experienced a bad cough and other symptoms related to the coronavirus. Sadly however, due to there being no testing for COVID available, we never knew if we really had COVID or not. -

Filling the Void with Food...and Failing
Food is the centerpiece of all of our family gatherings, even the informal ones. Before quarantine, my in-laws would drop by regularly, and always with enough food for an army. In the almost twenty years I have known my mother in law, I have never seen her without being given food - even if it’s a fresh bao she pulls out of her purse (true story - this happened at my kids’ student of first trimester awards last year (pre-Covid). I saw her for a total of 20 minutes, just enough time to watch my son and daughter get their awards and dash back to work, and that saint of a woman gave me three warm bao she had picked up on the way from a local bakery. “Pretty good” she said, which is her seal of approval.) It is hard to admit as I type this that I have not physically seen my in-laws beyond waving through the front window when they drop off homemade jook (rice porridge) since March. We Facetime with them and text, but it is not the same. That is a long time to be away from people that have a house less than five miles from ours. My in-laws are over 70 and a huge part of our lives, to lose this year with them hurts in ways I can’t describe. And culturally, food is their “I love you” - they don’t say the words, they show it through sharing food. And we haven’t had a meal together in almost a year. My husband still cooks Chinese dishes. On Monday, we had 蔥 油 餅 (green onion pancake), dumplings, Hong Kong waffle, shrimp with peas and lumpia (yes, I know, that’s really Filipino, but it’s sort of a staple in our family), and it was delicious. But there is this odd shadow that sort of hangs over our meal, knowing how much his parents would have loved to share it with us. And yes, we Facetimed them so the kids could show them how well the waffle turned and my mother-in-law said she couldn’t wait to come over and try it. The feeling is very, very mutual. -

Covid Procedures
Some Covid procedures are wearing a mask at almost all times outside. It makes sense and is helpful but I don't like wearing it. Wearing it for 7 hours at school hurts my ears, and exercising in one makes it hard to breathe. It is for our safety and our protection but it gets a little tedious. Social distancing is not very bad. Basically, as long as you are not giving high-fives and fist bumping, your fine. Some people take procedures more seriously than others, so it depends on who your with. Covid procedures make sense but can be a little annoying. -

13,000 School Districts, 13,000 Approaches to Teaching During Covid
As a teacher, I miss our old normal. I miss my students. I miss the connections. The numbers where I live are pretty high and we have not been inside a classroom since March of last year. The kids are not doing well. No amount of scaffolding would be enough right now. My English Language learners are struggling and most have just stopped coming. Parents are frustrated (understandably), and it is evident in their desperate e-mails to me. I am failing them all but I keep pushing and adapting for them. I am so homesick for these kids. Seeing how other schools are dealing with Covid-19 definitely makes me sad. Apart of me wants to go back so badly that I would risk getting sick. The other part of me knows that I have children of my own and asthma. I need to be here for my own family. -

Rules and Procedures
We have had and still have many rules and procedures during the corona virus pandemic. I have very much disliked some and appreciated others. One procedure that I have appreciated being online was having a very easy structure and schedule and one that I have not liked was having too much freedom during classes. Sometimes in class I would be lazy and not paying attention while in person you can't be relaxed on your comfortable chair with a blanket. One rule that I have appreciated was full time class, some schools do not have a full school day with merely one or two hours of classes. One rule that I have disliked is being in class the full 80 minutes and I lose attention span within that time frame. These are the rules and procedures I have experienced during the corona virus pandemic. -

Rules and Procedures
Out of all Covids procedures quarantine has effected me the most. In the beginning it was so crazy to me because it was just something I saw in science fiction movies but I'm pretty used to it now. I miss going out with my friends like normal. I've only seen three of my friends during this whole thing because I know we've only seen each other. I don't know how I could handle this without them. School is very different although I expected it. We have to walk certain ways, have plexiglass between us and scatter the desks. I really don't mind wearing mask, it's not only for my safety but others. I don't think it's a big deal, honestly I don't understand why some people get so pressed about having to wear one. It makes me kind of uncomfortable talking about Covid and its procedures because everyone has their own thoughts about it and it tends to be set in stone. I make sure I follow all the procedures so we can get over this, I think even thought some are hard its what has to be done. -

Covid Rules
To be honest there are way too many rules that you have to follow. The most common of course is the wearing a mask every time you are in the same room with a different person. The only problem is that I fell like I might pass out if I wear it for too long. Another one is Only walking in one direction. Here is the problem, You walk around the building and accidently miss your class. Either you go back 20 steps and are forced to turn around by the TA or you complete a full circuit around the building and are tardy, your choice. The next rule I find incredibly annoying. every time you transition classes you are required to get hand sanitizer. The machine ends up giving way more than it should and you send the next 5 minutes trying not to run in to something while looking down and rubbing it on your hands. You also have to do that while trying to walk to your next class. And my personal favorite, just kidding, is social distancing. I you are in break and you are trying to play a game or just talk you must be 6 feet apart. I hate it because you practically have to yell for the person to hear you. -

Covid Rules
Covid was not that scary for me because I knew that if I got it I wouldn't die due to my age. But what worried me was all the people that can die to it. So in order not to spread it I had to follow rules. I had trouble distancing from my friends. I was so use to to being close to them and talking with them. That was the only rule I had a lot of trouble with. The rest were not that bad. I did forget my mask a lot. But I now have gotten use to having it. Quarantine was easy until now because now I am so tired of it. We couldn't go to school or sports. It felt like I was lazy. But I had more time to learn new things. The rules were not bad just really boring and hard to get use too. -

Covid-19 Procedures
During the Coronavirus pandemic the government has assigned us many rules to follow, and suggestions so we are able to stay healthy. Around march when the pandemic took control of the U.S. We were ordered to stay home and we were advised to no come in contact with friends or other people. For most of march and April everyone stayed at home, and rarely went out because everything was closed including grocery stores. Whenever my mom and dad would go they would wear a face mask and gloves to make sure the didn't catch the virus. Also lines in stores were socially distanced so we'd have to stay six feet apart from all people. At first masks were hard to find, and some people even said that masks don't do anything. Soon enough, everyone was able to get a mask, and the government required you to wear a mask anytime you went somewhere in public. Throughout the summer all these rules remained in place, and since I was starting 8th grade; we had to continue with online school. We did online school until Christmas, and luckily throughout these months more stores had opened up, and even thought superiors still advised we didn't see any friends, I still got to hang out with my best friend quite a bit. It is currently January of 2021, and the covid-19 cases are higher now than the ever were. At this point wearing a mask has almost become second nature, and we recently went back to school earlier this month. We are required to wear a masks, and the desks are socially distances in the classrooms. The procedures can be a bit annoying at times, but we all know that they are to protect us and the rest of the community. -

Consider some of the rules or procedures that you have to follow, and tell your feelings about them
There are many new rules specifically for COVID-19, some seem to be good and others not so much. Some of the rules we have to follow at school are we have to always wear masks when around people, we have to be six feet apart from everyone, we have to constantly sanitize our hands and everything we touch, and we always have to eat outside. We are lucky because we get to be one of the only schools open, but it definitely is not fun having a mask on for almost 7 hours. Eating outside and always sanitizing isn't as bad, but the six feet apart rule is also very annoying. -

Covid Rules
One rule that we have to follow is to keep you mask on at all times. I feel like it is necessary but sometimes its gets a little annoying with the mask. Another rule would be 6 feet apart I think it does work. But I feel when you are 6 feet apart from someone you should be able to take off your mask only when you outside. Lastly We have to walk certain paths in school to get to class. I don't like this because some of my classes are far away from each other and it takes a long time to get there without covid. But with this new rule I have to go around the whole school and take the 7th grade stairs. This are some of the rules we have to follow and how I feel about them. -

Covid journal
The rules I have to follow to be good during school is I have to wear a mask I have to social distance and I have to wash my hands as much as I can. It is really hard wearing a mask all of the time but I get used to it. -

Covid rules
I think that they rules and procedures that we have to follow at school all make good sense, except for one. After break and lunch, we all have to clump up and line up in advisories before we leave to go to class. They dismiss each line one by one. The point of them doing this is so we dont all go at once and get all close to eachother. The problem is, they’re just making everyone clump up, then they basically dismiss us all at the same time so people end up clumping up anyway. And its not even like people go into their advisory lines either, everyone just clumps up and goes at the same time. What I think they should do is just either dismiss everyone at once so they’re is no clumping, or just start dismissing groups of people. -

rules and procedures
For COVID-19, there are many rules to follow. Some are wearing a mask and being socially distanced. I have had a struggle following these in my everyday life. I think that some don't make sense because of others. For example, having to wear a mask outside, even though the government says that outside is wear you can take your mask off. They totally cancel each other. One of my teachers got COVID-19 and I had to stay home for 1 week to make sure that I am ok. I personally don't understand this because I have no symptoms and feel fine. Over all, it is a lot of work to go anywhere because of all of the rules. -

Covid Rules
We have been told to wear masks (which have been proven to work) for almost a year now, yet some people still believe the virus is a hoax and masks are taking away their rights. This is only making things worse. I'm not allowed to see any of my friends or family for all of our health and safety, yet I see kids from my school post pictures of them with big groups of friends and no masks! It saddens me that nobody is truly taking Covid guidelines seriously. -

Rules and Procedures
During the pandemic, I've seen a lot of people not following the rules. For example, one time I was at trader joes with my mother. We were standing in line and this one lady didn't have a mask on. This was before the mask mandate. She asked one of the crew members if she had to wear a mask. When he said you don't have to, but we greatly encourage you wearing, she put the mask back in her purse and walked into the story. I mean it's fine if she wants to get covid, but now she is putting everyone else in the story, and the employees at risk. Another time, I was hanging out with my friends, we were all wearing masks except this one girl. She didn't even bother to put a mask on. A different time we hung out, she had a mask on because I asked her to wear one, but she kept taking it off and putting it back on. It was very annoying and I was so angry because she doesn't really think covid is real. As for me, I take wearing masks very seriously and I make sure it is always above my nose. I don't mind wearing a mask, it doesn't make a difference. But I missed being at school for so long. -

The Rules That Did Make Sense and the Many That Didn't
There were a lot of rules and regulations that we had to follow to stop the spread of COVID. Most of them were simple and made sense. Others, didn't... The rules that made sense were simple. Wear a mask; wash your hands often; stay six feet away from others; don't gather in large groups. The rules that had to do with which businesses were allowed to be open, seemed a bit arbitrary... For example, restaurants could open, but bars couldn't unless they served full meals. Retail stores could open with a limited number of customers allowed in at one time, but zoos couldn't. It was perfectly fine for you to wait with 10+ other people outside of a store, but to go to a zoo which was also outdoors apparently meant certain death. The rules that annoyed me the most were the ones regarding school closures. In California, it had been made practically impossible for schools to open. The worst part was that my school was in LA County, by 500 feet! I remember that in April, I went to Carpenteria with my dad and one of his friends. My friend was there too and we were standing about 4 feet apart without masks on. A lifeguard came up to us and started to get kind of mad. The strange thing was that the sign in the parking lot said, "No lifeguard on duty." Overall, the regulations weren't to bad for me, but I was to annoyed with our governor killing small businesses to remember that. -

Keena Covid Vaccine
My name is Morgan Keena, I live in Nampa, Idaho, I am a 7th-grade social studies teacher, and I got my first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine today! Teachers weren't scheduled to start receiving the vaccine in Idaho until late February or early March. However, on January 11, 2021, our state superintendent of education delivered a speech to the Idaho legislature urging them to pass a law that would require all school districts to stay open unless mandated by the governor. Additionally, she urged that all students return to in-person learning full time as quickly as possible. On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, the governor of Idaho, Brad Little, announced via a press conference that K-12 teachers and staff were moved to the top tier and could start receiving the vaccine on January 13, 2021. This came as a huge shock to educators everywhere, but we know it is tied to the demand to have schools 100% in person. My school district, Nampa School District, then took on the momentous task of figuring out how to obtain vaccines for their nearly 1,000 staff members. Less than 36 hours later, they had secured vaccines for us at three major health systems and two smaller urgent care locations. The district also had one health system offering the vaccine on Saturdays and Sundays to better work with the teacher schedules. We managed to crash the portals of two health systems by overwhelming them with many vaccine sign-ups. I (by a miracle) was able to secure an appointment for January 15, 2021. Let me tell you; I have never been so excited to get a shot in my life. I received my vaccine from St. Luke's Health System in Nampa, Idaho. The check-in process was a breeze and done entirely on my own. I was very relaxed while waiting for my appointment but also exceptionally eager to get back to my room and get this first dose done. Once my name was called, I met with the pharmacist who would be administering my vaccine. She was a lovely woman, and I consider myself fortunate to have met her. She was such a calming presence as she explained the emergency use authorization for the vaccine, potential side effects, and what I could expect in the days after receiving this dose. She continued to use the line, "when I got my first dose...." which made me feel at ease. We talked about my job, her children, and how this school year has been wild. Suddenly, it was over! I had my vaccine and was ready to take on the world! Almost. After a couple of cases of allergic reactions to the vaccine around the country, they now require you to wait in the waiting room for 15 minutes after receiving each dose. I received the Pfizer vaccine and have scheduled my second dose for three weeks from today. As I was doing my time in the waiting room after my injection, I signed up for a program called V-Safe. V-Safe is run by the CDC and is used to track vaccines' side effects. Since this vaccine has emergency authorization, they are still collecting side effect data. since I signed up, they will message me once a day for the next week to do a quick wellness check. After the initial week, they will message me once per week to continue keeping up with any side effects I may encounter. I figure it's the least I can do to help science. I am super excited about receiving the first dose of this vaccine. My husband also received it today, and we are overjoyed by that. He is a third-year medical student rotating through various hospitals, so getting him a vaccine was a priority of ours, but it proved to be more difficult to obtain than we had thought. He received the Moderna vaccine, so we get to see how both vaccines work. I received the vaccine because I expect our school board to bring back middle school students 100% in-person and full time soon. Social distancing will not exist in the classroom, and I will be exposed to 150 students in my classroom and the other 150 students in my wing of the school. This is a good day for science. I feel excited and hopeful. I feel like I have hit the 'covid wall' lately, and I am just ready to be done with this. -

School Bells and Silence
In late March, families in Portland, OR were told to prepare themselves for children to finish their school year from home. While my husband and I don’t have kids, we live across the street from an elementary school and enjoy hearing the children play as we go about our life at home. I loved hearing their laughter and giggles as they lined up outside of their classroom doors or the screeches that filled the air as they tore out of the doors for some much needed recess time on the playground. Then, on April 13, 2020, the laughter, the hollering, the clangs of playground equipment stopped. Up until that point, I could set my personal schedule by the sounds of that playground and now those sounds were gone. The quietness that remained behind was made even more eerie by the daily bells that rang from the school’s outdoor intercom system to signify the start of the day, end of recess, etc.. The tones that were barely audible on a normal day due to all of the commotion on the playground were suddenly a very loud, and real reminder that the world was different. It took the school nearly two months to turn off those alarms and every single day for those two months, at 8:25, 11:45, 12:15, and 2:25, those bells echoed throughout the neighborhood reminding everyone how much our world had truly changed. The alarm bells are now off and have been for nearly 6 months. It’s very quiet at the school. While we’ve all gotten used to the silence, every so often a family will head to the playground and, for a minute as the sounds of a child’s laughter drifts through the windows of my house, I remember what it was like before COVID and am suddenly slammed back into the reality of what our day to day lives have become. I can’t wait to hear those happy voices again - it will mean our lives are back to whatever new normal is on the other side of this pandemic. -

The Routine
Covid-19 reset everything for me. School, weekends, shopping, restaurants and so much more. So I had to take a step back and recreate my routine for school to follow the new normals for me during Covid-19. I started off from the first thing I do everyday. Getting ready for school. Now that I don't have to drive or pack my bag anymore I now allocated this time as extra/backup time for homework. For the most part things should be the same material wise but I need to make new home for my books so I can stay organized with all my class. The last thing I need to recreate for School is what should is what I should during my break and lunch. I thought of some ideas that did not do with electronics and came up just talking with m y family or working ahead on homework. In conclusion, I think recreating my routine was very substantial and don't regret one bit of it. -

Learning online
Remote learning was not that bad. I got to work with my own comfort. I would wake up, go to class and then at break I would eat breakfast. On breaks I could also watch TV. The only downsides to it was that I couldn't see my friends that much, or if I had a question, it was hard to get to a teacher. I had plenty of good routines that I enjoyed. -

Covid Origin.
So basically, I was in school on Friday March 13th 2020. I remember very vaguely but in my last class I think it was, there was a huge announcement on the tvs. it said "Covid 19 outbreak" and I just remember what I was thinking what this was. I honestly had no clue what it was and where it came from. The joy of every kids having no school on March 13th. Little did we know, it was the start of the end of the world. -

Covid-19
The first time I heard about the Corona Virus I was on a train with my whole school. A few kids at my school found some people in a car ahead of us wearing masks and started making jokes that they had Covid. At the time I didn't know what the Corona Virus was and all I found out was that it came from China. I didn't think anything of it because it hadn't begun to spread in the US. A few weeks later I was told that it came from bats and I am still not sure if that is true or not. When I first heard about the virus I though it would be just like the flu, I never expected it to spread so rapidly and for school to be cancelled for almost a year. -

First thoughts of covid
When I first heard about the virus I was at school in the hallway going to Spanish. I didn't know much about it, but I remember them saying we might have to be online for a month or two, maybe even going through summer. When I got home that day I watched the news about the virus with my dad and saw details on it I originally thought it was like the flu and I turned out to be right. And when I found out that we would maybe have to wear masks wherever went, I was distraught. But I learned to live with it and shockingly we still have to nearly a year later. I don't know many people who got covid except for my aunt and her sister who had gone on a trip to Europe and got it on a plane. She lost her taste and smell for a few days and she was better in about 2 weeks and she slept in the same bed with her husband and he or her kids didn't get it. So to the average population, I believe that it's not too harmful as long as you are healthy and aren't too old. -

The Beginning
My mom said that we were going to keep me home from school for a couple of days and I remember thinking...what is happening? I stayed home from Wednesday-Friday and on that Friday, my mom drove me to school in our Black honda to go pick up my books and clean out my locker because we were going to have an "extended spring break" which really turned into 8 months+ of online school. I thought that this was all super crazy! I was in shock that we had to stay home and learn from a computer. My opinions have changed a bit from back then. I started off thinking that this all would fly by and we would be back in school in a couple of weeks and maybe a month, but now I am not even sure if the world will ever be the same. Will we always have to wear masks? Maybe, but no one knows because the virus keeps getting bigger and bigger. I just couldn't believe that all of this was happening, at first, I thought it would be fun, but as time went by it just got kinda boring. -

My February Before Covid-19
My story begins February of 2020. I remember that Covid had not become such a big deal in the USA yet, but it was about to. School had not been closed yet and I remember that the Science Fair was maybe going to be canceled. I had been working on it for a long time and I was hoping it was not going to be canceled. Thankfully, it was not canceled and we were able to participate in the Science Fair. As the month of March began, it became more serious and they had to shut down the School. I though it was just going to be until the end of the school year, but it lasted until 2021. That is myself story of the time before Covid-19. -

The cause of Covid-19
I first heard of this back in January, on the news when people were saying that Wuhan China was being quarantined. Originally, I didn't think much of it, as I thought that China was taking the necessary precautions to minimize infection. However, it got worse, and I was hearing about cruise ships becoming infected and having to dock at ports. Then the time came where Americans were getting it and President Trump issued military planes to bring the people back. In my opinion, we should have left people until the two weeks were over, due to the fact people could be asymptomatic and bring it back without feeling ill. I'm also rather resentful of China's government, as I feel they were trying to hide it from the rest of the world to keep their economy and business going. I still wasn't nervous, as I didn't think it would spread as rapidly as it did to pretty much the whole world being infected with Covid. On March 7th, my school said it would be our last day of in person school for some time. I still wasn't nervous, as I just thought it would be a brief period of time and then we would come back. For the next few months I was inside, and thinking that I would be fine no matter what happened. But when researchers said that it targeted people with underlying health conditions, I got nervous. I have half a right lung and diabetes, so it would not be good if I contracted it. The last few months I have been super precautios, only spending time with people outside or in a safe environment. Overall, I think it will pass with time, but for the moment I need to keep myself alive and not take any massive risks. -

The Beginnings Of Covid-19
The Beginning Of Covid-19 The origin of Covid-19 had many rumores but the one that was most prominent to me during the beginning of the pandemic was bad meat from chinese markets. It all started when me and my family had a conversation about the pandemic and our thoughts and plans about it when my parents told me that it is speculated to be from these meat markets from the streets of china and since they are not preserved properly the meat carries the virus. The next day I got to school nothing was on lockdown yet so I did something that is almost just a dream to me. An actual conversation without worrying about masks, staying 6 feet away from them and having to sanitize if high five them. We talked about what they have been told about the origin and we all landed around the same point of the chinese market. Things have definitely changed, especially beliefs on the origin but this is how it all was first received. -

when covid 19 started, Jacob Orozco
when the Covid 19 virus hit, everyone was concerned. Apparently the virus broke out in China and was released to the whole world. There was even talk about shutting down the schools. We watched the news as the virus was spreading from Europe to America. as things got worse they eventually did shut down everything, schools, restaurants, ect. My family even thought of moving to another state. Then when Covid was in its groove, we realized its not as deadly as they portrayed. we all thought that this would be a killer virus as the news was saying. To some people it was very deadly, to some it is not. it was especially deadly to old people. to kids like us, it was as if we got a cold. eventually the news and CDC came out with their lies and said that the virus had a 99.9% survival rate to people with no underlining health conditions. thats when my family knew that there was no point in having everything shut down for a long time. The moral is that it wasn't as deadly or crazy as they said it is, sure, thousands of people died, but is wasn't really and grater that the deaths from the flu. -

The orgin of Covid 19
I first heard about the coronavirus around February. I heard of it mainly from my mom and friends. In the beginning, I was told it started from someone eating a bat in Wuhan China. Then it spread super fast. I was never too afraid of Covid and I never imagined that my school would get shut down from it. We were still going to school until around March 16th when my school got shut down. We did online school for the rest of the year and we also went into quarantine in March. My family still wasn't too afraid of the virus but for the most part, we quarantined and kept our distance from friends. we are still not too afraid of the virus and my family and my opinions have changed too much. -

Covid Origin.
When I first heard of Covid I didn't really think much because I was in school. It was March 13th 2020, and it was a normal Friday. I was in school and there was an announcement. COVID 19 is now in the U.S. i had no clue what it was. I just thought it was a normal flu that was carried from somewhere else. There wasn't much to explain when we heard this. The teachers wouldn't explain so I had to figure where it came from. But thats the thing. I didn't It was no where on the internet on that Friday. But, when I got home, the T.Vs starting blowing up with all the news about the new COVID 19 strand. -

Covid-19
My first memory of Covid-19 was in late December of 2019. I was sitting on my couch watching TV when I heard my dad in the other room talking to my mom about how the new "coronavirus" desiese was getting worse in China. I was shocked at first about what he was talking about, so I went into the next room to ask him what was going on. He explained to me how there was an epidemic going on in China, and how some people have died. It all seemed very new and since it was all the way in China I wasn't very concerned with it other than thinking that it must be scary for residents of China. Fast forward a few weeks when we get back to school, lots of kids in the hallways were making jokes about the disease that was spreading, and were saying things like, "Don't forget to use hand sanitizer cuz of corona." Up until mid march the jokes kept on running, and the epidemic in China became more and more of a big deal. Until the night before march 14, 2020 everything was still a joke, and the rumor of us doing online school from home was still a running joke. But on the night of march 13 we all got an email telling us that we'd be doing virtual school from home for the next two weeks. The following Monday we started online school, and we all thought it would just be for two weeks. I was up in my room all day, and we only got short breaks in between classes. The first week everyone seemed to enjoy it was we had to use zoom calls for our class periods. The second week of school everyone including myself started not liking the idea of virtual school as much. Even though we got to sleep in later, people were sick of sitting at a desk almost all day long. Soon enough they extended our time we would be doing school from home because of a pandemic for longer. The coronavirus had spread to the U.S. and most people rarely left the house except to go to the grocery store because everything was closed. Whenever my mom or dad would go to the store they would wear a mask and gloves to make sure they didn't catch any germs. Lots of other people did the same. By this time almost the entire country was in lockdown. It had grown into a full-blown pandemic; other countries like Italy we also bombarded with the panic of Covid-19. Everything was a complete disaster just by mid-april. I had no idea when we would be going back to school, or when things would return to normal. I still don't as a matter of fact. by this time I thought we'd go back in may, but we didn't. In the first couple weeks of may, just a few days before my 13th birthday, everyone at this point hated online school, it was dreaded by children across the country. This gradually got worse and worse, teenagers' mental heath was tanking by a landslide. Quarantine was now taking over my life completely. Most days I would sit in my room the entire day even on weekends since we couldn't go anywhere. Throughout June was probably the worst moth for my metal heath, and I think many others would agree. Saying we were bored would be an understatement; I wasn't depressed much like a quite a few of my other friends ,as far as I'm concerned, but it felt like all of our happiness and livelihood had been taken from us since what we started lockdown. Soon after, in July things started to open up again, the cases for covid-19 were getting lower(which was good), and people basically assumed quarantine was over. The nest month since things were opening up previously we all thought we would go back to school, but a few days before school was supposed to start we were informed that we wouldn't be going back, and we had to continue with online school. I was extremely disappointed, and I thought hopefully we'd go back by at least October. The following months through Christmas break we stayed in online school, and almost nothing happened. I spent my days the exact same as the day before I would sit in my room do school and then look on my phone or listen to music(mostly One Direction, The Beatles, and 80's music). My life became dark, boring, and quiet. By this time everyone was so fed up with quarantine, since we had been in lockdown for the past 9 months. Even Christmas felt different this year; usually I'm super excited and this year I almost didn't even care about the holiday's and I can't explain why. I'm currently writing this on January 7, 2021 at 9:05 pm. We've luckily gone back to school yesterday for the first time in ten months. There are plenty of safety precautions to make sure none of us get sick like: wearing a mask, social distancing( staying 6 feet away from people), and there are even certain ways to we have to walk around hallways and the campus to keep us in order. I can already feel a change in myself since we went back yesterday. It already feels like things are getting better now that we don't have to do virtual school with zoom calls for classes. I'm also really glad I get to see my friends, and hopefully make some new ones. If there's anything I've learned from being a part of the current pandemic it's that you can't give up or give in to other things going on with the world or even within your own life. No matter how tuff things you have to remember who you are and what you want to be. If anyone in the distant future is reading this I want them to know that, and how lucky they are to be apart of something as wonderful as life can be. I found myself more often than never longing for the past hoping for answers, only to find out the past is inside all of us, and even when the hardships of reality kick in you have to remember how amazing it is to get to experience something as rare and beautiful as life is. So don't take things for granted and appreciate every moment because you'll never know when something as mind-boggling as a world-wide pandemic will happen to you. Long story short never give up on your hopes and fantasies; it might just be the thing you'll need the most. -

Early March
It was early March when we were told to stay at home. Everyone thought that we would stay at home for only a couple weeks. Everyone was excited about not going to school in the beginning. Slowly a lot more events happened and covid-19 cases only went up. Eventually states opened too early causing more cases to go up. In mid December the covid-19 vaccine was finished. Unfortunately cases are still going up. -

Online times
I think that remote learning is going okay so far but i’d rather be in school where I can get help easier and I can have face to face conversations with my friends. I feel like we go kinda fast in remote learning I wish we could slow it down. I also we started earlier and ended earlier at like 12. Although quarantine was nice and I got to hang with my friends, I would like to see the people I never got the chance to hang out with. -

2020-09-22 covid summer
This journal entry was written as a part of the American Studies class at California High School in San Ramon, California. Over the summer i guess i did change quite a bit. The main thing that changed was really my hobbies or rather, my newfound disinterest in my old set of hobbies. I always took my hobby far too seriously and it turns out that when i didn’t have any pressure to keep pursuing it, i kind of dislike it a bit. I had a bit of an existential crisis over it but it’s been nice to take a break.. I’ve also gotten used to school a lot better. I’m a lot more responsible nowadays and i have no missing work so that’s nice. It’s partly because of all the time i don’t use up on my hobby but it’s mostly that i just find find it fun to organize my computer. Now that i think about it i really don’t want school to start. I won’t have the choice to stay home because then i’d lose touch with my friends but I’ll really miss not being mentally drained from talking to strangers. There’s also the fact that i don’t want my room to be filled up with papers that i’ll just stare at become overwhelmed by. There’s just so many reasons that i don't want to go back to in-person. -

My Personal Covid Experience
9/29: This journal entry was written as a part of the American Studies class at California High School in San Ramon, California. During the pandemic, many people have faced lots of different struggles. These struggles can range from very slight problems to large ones, and thankfully, for my family and I, we are doing pretty well. Personally, I had a few struggles when adapting to the new ways of learning and getting used to not seeing my friends as much. At first, it was fine because I thought of it as an extra-long spring break, but when I realized that we weren’t going back to school in Contra Costa County I was pretty sad. Throughout COVID, I definitely missed my friends and I felt pretty alone. Luckily, my dad was able to keep his job and work from home, so we did not have any financial problems. Covid definitely allowed me to grow closer to my dad and brother because I ended up spending a lot of time with them where I usually wouldn’t see them as much. Socially, I think our county has started to adjust to the new reality and lots of families are starting to get used to it. I think this whole situation has made people realize that they should be grateful for the valuables and people that are in their life. Lots of things (like social gatherings, school, and friends) can be taken away in a second, but family and other really important things will always stay. -

This past weekend I went lake tahoe for the weekend. I did do school up in tahoe which was really weird, but it was kinda cool. Most of the time we spent was on the water wake surfing. -

Pre-Transformation Entry: COVID-19 Response
This journal entry was written as a part of the American Studies class at California High School in San Ramon, California. This will mostly be about the shut-in. To be honest, it feels as though not much has changed. At the same time, I feel disoriented. The major difference in my daily activity is the stationary school setting, along with dance practice which I attend from right at home. As I’ve settled into the new life, I feel more aware of how poorly i’ve been treating my own room, and the mess gets to my head. I suppose the quarantine has made me cleaner. Additionally, I’ve more time to spend with my family. It makes me happy to see their faces every day. In darker news, my mom’s condition got much worse, but we’re all here to support her now, and that makes me proud. Being walled up at home certainly did change things. -

What I learned about not going to school
I learned about myself that every day I get up the laziness stops my body move an inch away from my bed even through the weekend. Since I got class still for learning like a normal school day but in our own home. This let me remember the good old times when we learn in school struggling. -
