  This photo shows the waiting area that the public was directed to after receiving their vaccine doses. When I was being walked over, my doctor told me to wait fifteen minutes, and if I felt ill during that time period I should sit on the floor and raise my hand. The chairs were stuck to the ground about six feet apart. There was a much larger section of chairs behind me, but I did not want to photograph anyone without their consent, even though everyone had masks on. Once your fifteen minutes were up, there was a desk at the front of the room with staff to double check that you felt alright as well as validating parking if needed. HIST30060.

  My Experience with Online School and Quarantine

  Hi! My name is Wendy! Right after a normal weekend in March, I never expected that we would switch to online learning. I was shocked to see the email in the picture on March 13th, saying that we would no longer go back to normal school. This screenshot is very important to me since it made me realize that Covid-19 was a bigger issue than I thought. There was talk of a new illness (Covid-19), but I honestly didn’t feel like it would turn into a whole pandemic. I was kind of thankful since I had a dentist appointment on Monday that would’ve made me be absent from class, but all the cons of Covid-19 outweighed the benefits. The first few weeks were awful- it was hard to adapt to the constant isolation, and being with my family all day was tiring. Also, school wasn’t as engaging or fun anymore. We weren’t able to connect with our teachers or talk to our friends in class. Furthermore, seeing the news and how thousands of people were dying was very frightening. But it's been more than a year of online school, and I found out that what helped me cope was the small things like texting my friends on Discord, hanging out (with masks and 6 feet apart obviously), and exploring things that I couldn’t do before quarantine like drawing or playing the piano. Of course, there were days where I was fed up with being inside or when I felt depressed, but making the most out of this situation gave me the drive to keep social distancing. So remember to keep wearing masks, keeping 6 feet apart, and get vaccinated! This lack of social interaction and not being able to go to school or public places normally is unfortunate but we must stay away from each other to stay together. When it gets hard, find ways to connect with others through safe means like social media and use all that free time to improve and discover things about yourself.

  My sister during the pandemic

  Throughout living in this pandemic many people have had a multitude of different reactions regarding it. There is the people who really don't care too much about the pandemic and have not taken to many precautions in their life in regards to the pandemic. The next group of people are the ones who realize there is a pandemic follow the necessary precautions but don't obsess over it and make it consume their lives. And the final group of people are the ones who have let the pandemic take over their lives. My sister is in this last group. She has let it consume her and made her life revolve around this pandemic. She refuses to leave her apartment at all costs. In fact I think I have seen her in person maybe one or two times in the past year since the start of the pandemic. Along with that when I do see her even when it is known that I do not have COVID it has to be outside wearing a mask at least six feet apart and for not longer than fifteen minutes. Yes I understand the precautions of COVID but it is sad to me that this pandemic has caused family members to distance themselves from one another and has really put a lot of strain and stress on people. Hopefully the vaccine will be rolled out quickly and efficiently.

  Covid stats.

  Personally, I don't really have an exciting story about Covid. It's just there. I haven't been affected by it or anything. But statistics show that in Ventura County which is where I live there are 13,593 cases of Covid-19. Theres not much to it really. Stay home, where your mask, and stay six feet. Just follow those guidelines and you're set. Also too, Covid has been on a downfall since January 14th. So that is good.

  Some COVID-19 procedures and rules that I have to follow.

  Some rules are to wear a mask and stay six feet apart. These are smart rules that are definitely helping. Wearing a face mask is irritating and bothersome because I have to wear it all day at school. But staying six feet apart is easy and not as bad as it seems. Obeying these rules are the only way you can leave your house and go places so I will do so without complaining.

  Covid Procedures

  Some Covid-19 procedures the we have to follow consist of wearing a mask, stay 6 feet apart from one another, don't leave your house unless necessary. I think that the mask is a good procedure, but some masks are just too heavy and hard to breathe out of. So masks could be lighter but filtered properly. 6 feet apart makes no sense because the virus can jump from person to person farther that 6 feet. For leaving your house unless necessary is just flat out stupid because its a law to always wear a mask and social distance so why do people care if we leave our house. And they wonder why some kids are antisocial.

  COVID-19 Names

  The COVID-19 pandemic has a lot of rules that we have to follow. One of them is to wear masks all the time. Some people whine about wearing them and how they don't work, but those people just look for excuses to complain. Masks help me stay safe and make me feel more comfortable around others. At my school, we also have to take temperature checks every day. My mother checks mine at home, and we have to go in again for school. It normally isn't a big hassle, but it gets annoying when you are just waiting for the people to get the instruments needed to check us. And the lady that helps with the temperature checks is pretty mean. Overall, its not that big of a deal though. We also have to stay six feet apart, but the benches at lunch are not that big, so we end up sitting pretty close. I should probably try to maintain my distance from people more. The rules that we have to follow for COVID-19 aren't that difficult, and you get used to them pretty quickly.

  Rules and Procedures of Covid-19

  Ever since the strike of Covid-19 we have had to make changes to our everyday lives. Some of these include wearing masks around people, sanitizing yourself and surfaces often, staying 6 feet apart from others, ect. Kids and teens also had to stay home and do school online (which I enjoyed). These procedures might be quite annoying or uncomfortable, but it makes it a lot easier to them when you know you're saving lives. Personally I think that the things that have changed or the things that we have to do are annoying, but i'd rather do that than have people die.

  rules

  when covid first hit the first rule was to slow down international travel. this didn't work when there was an out break in Washington that spread fast. I didn't really mind this rule I just couldn't travel over summer but then they told people to stay six feet away from each other. this wasn't too bad either just I couldn't hang out with friends indoors and we couldn't go to a public place so we mostly surfed skated and built bike jumps. then they told us to wear masks. to avoid all these rules I never really left my naborhood unless go to my friends house and then we wouldn't go out side there naborhood. the masks where the worst it would make it hard to breath and stuff.

  Procedure during COVID-19

  During COVID-19, there are many procedures you have to follow. We had to stay inside our houses. It has been about a year-long process. At first, it was fun adapting to a new lifestyle, but after a while, I wanted to go to places and it was starting to get boring. However, I was able to talk to my friends over the phone and through a chatting application called discord. Another procedure was staying six feet apart. With friends, this was not so bad of a rule, but with family, it is always nice to be able to hug your loved ones. However, we would use air hugs and it was kind of fun. Overall, COVID-19 procedures were fun at the start, but over time, they would get boring and we had to find new ways to get around it.

  My NU.in Experience

  Covid caused my NU.in experience to be different than it was supposed to be. I was supposed to go abroad and experience the world in a new way. I found out in February that I was accepted into the NU.in program. I was excited yet apprehensive because of the great opportunities that had just been placed in front of me. I decided to attend Northeastern in late April so I knew that I would not be going abroad. As September approached, I grew increasingly nervous, I moved into a hotel, twenty minutes from campus, and had to follow a bunch of safety precautions. I did not expect my first semester of college to go the way it did. I never expected to be wearing a mask or be so worried about what I touched. I never imagined that I would have to be tested for a disease once every three days. I quickly grew to find my new normal at the start of the semester after finishing my initial quarantine. I made socially distanced friends over zoom calls and we met up for lunch but stayed six feet away from each other. This was how I met many of my friends. I decided to keep a journal to document everything that was happening during these difficult times. At the end of the day once I had taken my mask off and washed my hands I would write about my day and how it was different from what I had once done. Dining was an interesting experience to navigate. Only a certain amount of people were allowed into the dining hall at a certain time so there were usually long lines to get into the dining hall to eat. At first, all the dining halls were takeout only. As the semester progressed, sit down options were allowed. To allow for social distancing, signs were posted on the tables to tell students how many people were allowed to sit at each table and there were people around to enforce these rules. While waiting in line to get food, everyone has to stand on a marker on the floor indicating six feet of distance to be safe and everyone is required to keep their masks on. These experiences have shaped my time in Boston. I have been able to have a safer experience during my first semester of college thanks to Northeastern’s guidelines. I have also been able to watch out for myself and others because I know that I am being tested and those that I am around are also being tested on a regular basis. Overall, being on a college campus that is so conscientious about Covid has helped shaped my understanding and has helped me be safer as well.

  Being Lowe’s safe by wearing our mask.

  Sometimes social distancing is hard to do at all times. It is especially important to wear a mask when unable to stay 6 feet away from others since covid-19 spreads mainly from people who do not acknowledge the 6 feet requirement and have close contact with one another. While masks offer protection to yourself it also provides protection to those around you. Lowe’s provides its employees with Lowe’s specific make to stay safe. Lowe’s also provides masks to the public who do not have a mask. All one has to do is go to customer service and ask for a mask and we will happily provide one. With this there are some customers that come into the store without a mask and refuse to wear one. We still have to provide great customer service while being safe. In these situations we have to do our best to practice social distancing.

  Staying Lowe’s Safe During COVID-19

  This is one of the many ways Lowe’s is doing its part to make sure their employees and customers are safe. Throughout the store these signs are a great reminder that everyone needs to comply with the requirements of maintaining a 6 foot distance to protect themselves and others from the spread of the illness. The placement of these are in prime locations where the store sees the most traffic. Social distancing is important for not just everyone but especially those who are at higher risk for severe illness for coronavirus. Social distancing crushes the curve, which means that these protective practices slow the rate of infection. As employees we are motivated everyday by our managers to enforce social distancing as much as we can to make customers feel safe while shopping in our store. Along with the signs we also have an automated message that plans periodically to remind the customers to social distancing and how important they are to us and always to have a Lowe’s safe day.

  Waiting for an Elevator

  This video is a representation of how hard COVID has made life for college students, but more importantly, it is a representation of the students' willingness to cooperate and work with each other to make situations flow as smoothly as possible. As first-year college students, we were all incredibly overwhelmed and stressed out by entering a new chapter of our lives, in an entirely new setting that we weren’t used to. In essence, we were thrown into a mess that we didn’t know the outcome of. In fact, we still don’t know the outcome of it. In fact, before the pandemic happened, we all thought we were going to Greece, Hungary, or New Zealand for our study abroad Nuin program. Instead, our options slowly changed to Canada, Ireland, and London, and then eventually dwindled down to Boston or Dublin. This resulted in not only disappointment but a sense of unease for our first semester as college students. We ended up being housed at a local hotel about a mile away from campus. And although none of us liked the rules Northeastern University set for us, regarding guests, partying, and common spaces, we all understood that this was not only to keep us safe but to keep the city of Boston safe as well. I think it’s easy for college students, particularly Northeastern Students, to forget that we are living in a pandemic with serious consequences to the community. Us students are fortunate enough to be getting tested every three days, giving us a blanket of security that ensures we don’t have the virus. But it’s easy to forget that we live in a metropolitan area where others aren’t getting tested. Therefore, if we end up spreading it to other members of the community, we know within three days, but other people within the community don’t. Hence the importance of continuing to maintain social distancing and mask-wearing. This video is one of the hallmark moments of Nuin students maintaining these ideas and bringing a sense of awareness to the community. Because we live in a hotel, there are other guests that are usually spending the weekend in the hotel, and therefore we do interact with visitors frequently. In one such instance, the elevators were backed up in the building, as it was peak “rush hour” and two of the elevators were broken, and there were only 4 people per elevator. This video shows that even without tape on the floor to guide people to stand six feet apart, they did. Even though students could have easily broken rules and gotten into large groups into the elevators, they didn’t. Nuin Boston came together as a community, not only through painting social distancing but upholding the mentality that we should all look out for each other and put others’ needs before our own. I think many people have a lot of negative things to say about the COVID pandemic, which is understandable for many reasons. Even the first thing someone will find when they look up Nuin Boston is a story of how 11 students got kicked out even before classes started. But there will always be outliers. There will always be those that don’t care about others, that will continue to break rules regardless of their consequences. But it is the students and members of the community that care about the well-being of others that will continue to make a positive impact.

  Sensory Memory Changes During COVID-19

  The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected our sensory memory. All of the 5 senses have experienced a lot of change during this pandemic. Personally, I found the streets and stores to not be as packed as they used to be. When I go outside, I see most people are wearing masks and staying 6 feet apart from each other. During the pandemic, it has been a lot quieter as well. There is barely any traffic on the freeways or even the sound of cheering from football games and gatherings. The sense of taste also experienced a lot of change. Due to social distancing regulation, restaurants and cafes have been closed or only allowed takeout. Personally, it's been almost 8 months since the last time I went out to eat at a restaurant or get coffee pastries at a local cafe. For smell, California was struggling with fires so for a few weeks and all I was able to smell was smoke. Finally, the sense of touch has been experiencing change. I'm not able to see my relatives and friends. Since I can’t really go outside or visit people during these times, I haven't experienced a hug, high-five, or shaking someone’s hands in a while.

  Plexiglass Barriers Are Becoming the Norm for Businesses Re-Opening During COVID-19

  The photograph depicts two plexiglass barriers suspended over counters at a Domino gas station in Blanchard, Oklahoma. These barrier are suspended from wire chains connected to the ceiling. These barriers act as a "sneeze guard" much like similar system have placed in restaurants in the past. Much like CDC recommended social distancing, these barrier act to protect employees and customers while they stand closer than six feet for transactions. This particular barrier at Domino was installed specifically in response to COVID-19. Local businesses, such as Domino, Spencer's Grocery, Subway, and China House were just a few of thoes that had been observed with these plexiglass barriers installed since COVID-19. In addition, local state and federal government offices such as Gayla's Tag Agency and the Blanchard Post Office had made the transition to these plastic protective barriers as well. As many locations make the shift to re-opening, the plexiglass barrier has become a growing standard of how people do face-to-face business, even in rural communities.   Walgreens Prescribes “Social Distancing”

  As the COVID-19 spreads across the world, essential businesses such as grocery stores and pharmacies take precautionary measures. Following the guidelines issued by the CDC, businesses such as Walgreens request that while in (and out of) their pharmacy, customers distance themselves by at least 6 feet. Inside the pharmacy, customers distance themselves physically and socially, exchanging looks from 6 feet away that seem to say, “you are too close to me.” Tape across the floor dictates the CDC’s guidelines of what is too close. Novelist George Orwell’s writings come to mind, whose literature warns of dystopian societies. The entire Walgreens experience, from walking in, to shopping, to walking out, reminds customers of the often asymptomatic virus that anyone could have. #DePaulHST391
