March of 2020
March of 2020 is one of the most memorable dates in my life. I was a junior in high school, and news of COVID-19 spreading throughout the United States was increasingly growing. I remember being on a bus with people who went to my high school after our school's girls basketball team played a game a couple hours away from where our school was. Our team lost in a close regional finals game, so the ride back home was somewhat gloomy. I remember people behind me talking about this new virus, now COVID-19, and I heard them say, "I hope it doesn't come to Ohio." This moment is engrained in my mind because just a couple weeks later, the whole world went into lockdown, and I missed out on the rest of my junior year of high school. It is somewhat weird to think about how back in the earlier days of the pandemic, everyone was confused and worried about what COVID-19 was, and now, it is just a normal aspect of our lives today. -

Wrestling Promotion Resumes Production under COVID Protocols
Professional wrestling promotion Ring of Honor announced their intentions to resume production of their weekly televised wrestling show, but with no fans in attendance and COVID protocols for the staff. Like all live entertainment avenues, professional wrestling has also been affected by the pandemic and has had to take precautions to protect its staff, talent, and fans. -

Playing D1 Athletics during the Covid Pandemic
I am on the women’s soccer team at Arizona State University, and the world’s way of handling sports during the pandemic was ever changing and interesting to say the least. This photograph depicts me playing soccer outside while fully masked. At the start of the pandemic, all sports were put on a complete hold and all athletes were sent home. The next progression was that we were able to return to campus, however we must practice fully masked and maintain no contact with other athletes. As you can imagine, running sprints in August in Arizona was no easy feat, but nobody complained and everyone was just happy to get back on the field. Within a couple of months, we were able to resume contact, remove masks, and play against other schools as long as weekly testing was enforced. As the year has progressed and vaccinations have become readily available, the restrictions for vaccinated individuals have been almost completely lifted and testing is no longer required. This pandemic has completely changed my outlook on sports and life in general. It is so easy to dread the early morning practices, the hard team workouts or count down the days until your next off day. However, once those things are completely taken away from you, you truly realize how lucky you are to even be on the field in the first place. This pandemic, in all that it has taken from us, has given me a sense of appreciation for all the little things that I used to dread. I find myself being much more optimistic in the hard moments than I was before, and I have been able to be much more grateful for the opportunities that I have been given. I truly do think that this lesson will carry over into my life beyond athletics, and that I will have a different outlook on seemingly dreadful tasks. You never know when a global pandemic could suddenly put your life on hold. -

COVID-19 Story
During the pandemic, I was able to get back into reading and also once the restrictions were lifted, I was able to get back in the gym and start biking again. I would try and bike anywhere from 10-15 miles per day which was a goal of mine to hit. -

Abnormal Rona Year
In 2020, everything I had planned for school and summer came to a halt. Even though we were forced to stay home, I still went to friends houses and played community league sports. The air smelled cleaner because there were no vehicles in sight for miles. Everything you touched was soaked in disinfectant and cleaning supplies. All you could hear was just pure silence other than the animals that live out in the woods. The birds were chirping and animal density grew due to no one being active and scaring them away. I would tend to head to my friends' house quite often. Me and him would help his father fix up a house then head to my friend's house to go fishing, trail riding, and practice baseball. We even went to the store where there were only workers inside.2020 was a completely different feel to my life than my past years, but will go down in history and my best year for trying and learning new things. -

Covid-19
Last year, Covid-19 was at its peak. It was the beginning of the year, and it was during our football season. During the week of our 2nd game, about 5 of our seniors got quarantined because of some kid at their lunch table. He got Covid, so they couldn't be around anybody, including the football team. So, they had to sit out of football for 2 weeks. As the year went on, we had a bunch of people that couldn't play because of Covid-19. It got so bad that our coaches got Covid and we couldn't play in sectionals. Covid-19 completely ruined our season last year. -

Surviving a Global Pandemic
Never in my lifetime did I ever think I would live during a time where there would be a global pandemic. I've read about the Spanish plague, I've watched movies such as I Am Legend and others - but never did I think in my lifetime I'd ever experience this. It was hard to see friends lose loved ones, businesses close for good, the U.S. government mishandling the pandemic, pandemic deniers, BLM slander, no justice for the people of Armenia, and so many other things. It's been a long year, and so much has happened but not enough progress was made when I feel there was a lot of room for progress to be made. I'm unsure what moving forward and post-pandemic looks like. In a sick way I've gotten used to living in pandemic mode that I'm not sure if I'm ready to 'go back to normal' yet. Work has been operating in pandemic mode still and I'm not bothered by it or eager to go back, but I do miss attending sporting events and live concerts. But I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too, right? -

Teachers, parents call for performing arts COVID-19 guidelines to be equal to high school sports
While high school sports are going back to normal in Virginia, high school performing art programs are still restricted. A high school choir booster member has said this is unfair to the students and started a petition urging the state to update performing arts COVID-19 guidelines. Unlike high school sports, whose guidelines have been updated frequently, high school performing art's guidelines haven't been updated since September 2020. -

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Growing up in Tampa seeing the Bucs win is a good thing. The first time in history a team played in their home city for a Super Bowl.... but COVID. It will be interesting to see if they do the parade and if they do what will happen. Undoubtebly people in Tampa are partying. I expect to see a 15% increase of COVID cases in Tampa at the very least. The 7-day average is currently 420 for cases reported. I have to recheck in 7-10 days. It will be interesting to see how big of an impact America's game will have. -

Covid Positives that Effected Me
One Covid positive that effected me was my nanny. She lives with us and one day she visited her mom. When she came back, she had covid. She had to go stay with her mom while she quarantined, and my whole family had to get tested. Although we were negative, we still had to quarantine for a week. I didn't get to do any sports or hang out with any friends. -

Procedures
The worst procedure is social distancing. Social distancing at the start of the pandemic was a pain not ever being able to see my friends sucked. The other procedure is masked nobody like wearing mask especially for sports, when your running and panting and have that feeling of will they yell at me if I take the mask off. In conclusions these procedures hit hard. -

Covid Restrictions
Throughout the Covid 19 Pandemic there have been many changes in my life. The main one and the hardest one for me was not bring able to see friends that much. I still get to see them but not as frequently as I used to. The second restriction was having to wear masks. I personally believe that masks help, but they are a pain to wear especially during sports and other physical activity. -

COVID lockdown rules
The stupid COVID rules that have been put in place are not worth following, this virus has a 99.9% recover rate for anyone in between 4-50 and we have to shut the whole country down. I live in California which is democrat run so we have to be on red alert like this virus is a threat to all humanity. It’s stupid and it always has been. I wish I lived in Florida at this point because I can play sports there and live life. But no, I have to comply to California’s socialist communist ideology’s. -

How COVID-19 Affected My Daily High School Life
This is a journal entry I created when school started online learning. At the time, I was frustrated and upset at the online learning, but now I have been able to adapt and overcome the adversity our society faces. Covid-19 has greatly impacted my family. I have been continuously doing online school at California high school and at DVC. I personally strongly dislike it. We are staring at a computer all day for classes and to do homework. The online classes make me tired and lazy. With sports pretty much stopped, it is hard to go outside and practice all by yourself. For my dad, his work has been greatly affected. His workload has dropped and he has constant precautions for his employees. He almost even had to shut down. For my sister, she was finally able to college three months late. They might also cancel her soccer season at UCSB. For my mom, she is very cautious about being around other people because of her parents and their health. This pandemic has influenced the world away from socializing. I can rarely hang out with people and being on zoom is annoying. We are doing the same thing over and over again when it seems like there is no purpose. Our entire world as we know it flipped over and is completely different now. I need school to go to hybrid and sports to start back up soon. -

Big Events Now Virtual
Whether it be a sports game, musical or concert, its not happening in person during covid. Covid has made social distancing a top priority, meaning that huge gatherings in confined spaces probably won't work. Sports events including the NBA & NHL took the route in keeping there players safe from the disease by implementing the "bubble" which ultimately isolated the players from all contact except for games and practices. No concerts are in session as well as musicals, they can be shown virtually on the other hand. -

Some College Athletes are Marginalized?
This search really opened my eyes to all of the colleges that are not division I and how they are marginalized. I read an article from the ncaa explaining all of the covid guidelines and regulations regarding all of the different schools. Division I schools are still allowed to play but it was postponed due to Covid rather than lower division schools' seasons getting cancelled and their championships. All of the hard work that athletes train for and they don’t get to show how they’ve grown but division I athletes get to go further with their passion for sports. This is important to me because my team is directly related to this topic of not being able to play and having everything still up in the air while division I schools are allowed to participate. This is important to archivists showing the discrepancies regarding different level school along with the sports that are allowed to play. -

Everyones New Sport
Disc Golf has been a sport that has been on the uprising. Ever since Covid hit Topeka, more and more people were not able to go play basketball, or go to the YMCA because they didn't wanna get sick. Disc Golf has gave a great way to spend your time when you're bored. I have picked up this sport and I enjoy it very much. I go out with a few friends and you are able to social distance while having fun. I have noticed more and more people are playing as well. There hasn't been a day when I go out to the courses in Topeka and they are empty. -

My life before Covid
Before Covid i was at school, playing sports, seeing friends, watching movies, going out to eat and other normal things. I then heard the news of a virus in China but didn't think much of it. Then i heard the news of it spreading across the world and they brought up the idea of online school but i thought that would be too good to be true. My school then anounced that it would happen and we had a long weekend as the teachers prepared for online school. we finally started and I thought it was the most amazing thing to do school from home. I luckily got a haircut before everything closed. Now I would like to get back to school because doing it online is very boring and i want to talk to friends again. -

My life was normal, I had school then sports. Friends on the weekends. I could go to a store without a mask or not have to wait for a person to walk out before I could go in. Little did I know all of these things would turn out for the worst. -

The Beginning
In late February headlines broke out of a virus in China that was killing masses of people, I think most people in the U.S. thought that we were safe at first because there was a whole ocean in between them and us. Then, word spread that hoards of people were getting the virus in Europe. Then I think that a lot of us were starting to get worried. Eventually, in mid-March, we started having cases in California and we had to go to school online. This was unfortunate because it was right as the Spring sports season was beginning, it was fine though, because everybody thought that we would be back in school by mid-April. And here we are in mid-December, still not back in school. -

My Life Before Covid and How I Found Out
My life before Covid-19 was going very well. I was traveling for competitions and doing sports, actually going to school in person normally, and I was able to see the rest of my family. I was very happy, and then everything began to fall apart. Back in January, I found out about the virus, and how it was in China. Everybody thought that it was a joke and we would all laugh when someone talked about it, but we never thought that it would spread to the USA, or cause an emergency global pandemic. I was actually at a competition the weekend before everything shut down, completely unaware of what was about to happen. We got home from the competition and the next day at school, I began to hear that other schools were shutting down and canceling school temporarily. That is when it all hit me. Our school was shutting down, stores were shutting down, restaurants were shutting down, everything was closed, and I thought that the world was ending. Who knew that right after coming back from a normal competition and a regular life that everything was changing. I definitely didn’t. The worst and funniest part about everything shutting down in an emergency rush, was the outage of toilet paper. Everyone was stalking up on toilet paper, for a reason I am not aware of, causing almost all stores and online websites to be completely out of it. People began to panic for this reason, and that is when people began to hoard things like dry foods, toilet paper, water, and that is when getting essential items became a huge struggle. Everyone basically had to fight to get the things they needed. Covid-19 changed the whole world, and it was definitely not expected. -

After 44 years in the City of Champions, The Fours closed its doors
As a city, Boston has known many championships from the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots. Each of these teams has brought the city together at one moment or another. Prior to 2020, The Fours was home to many meals prior to the Bruins and Celtics games and for those who may not have been able to buy scalped tickets for that night’s game. On occasion, I would find myself eating there minutes before a Bruins game, because of Boston traffic, trying to eat as quickly as I could. Inside, the Boston atmosphere was lively, with history hanging on every wall and a menu consisting of iconic Boston sports legends. That lively feel of The Fours faded away in August of 2020 as I learned that The Fours closed its doors. The Fours was not the only restaurant in the city of Boston affected by the pandemic of 2020. Many large- and small-scale restaurants, unable to sit to their normal capacity began suffering. Many sought after restaurants like The Fours helped shape Boston’s historic sports teams’ atmosphere, but the power of the pandemic showed that even the legends can fall. -

NCAA Football May Be back
During the reopening phase, many schools were deciding on if there would be a college football season, after many of the professional sports seemed to be ok in starting. Baseball started out with a few games that were cancelled but would travel, and test players. The NBA had figured a way to play in a “bubble” where the players would stay on Disney resort and play each other and be regularly tested. But the NCAA had yet to figure out it’s procedure for College Football. Trevor Lawrence the star QB at Clemson wanted to play and let his voice, as well as other be known that they hoped to have the chance to have a season, and through playing many of these players would have a better chance of avoiding COVID-19 at school versus where they would normally be if no football or school happened. -

Time to Watch Calcio
I'm not one to watch sports, but I do love futbol, or calcio as my favorite Italians call it. During the pandemic, as professional sports have been cancelled, and then gradually brought back in, my husband and I added ESPN+ to our streaming in order to watch SERIE A finish the 2020 season (albeit late) and then recently start again. Doing so has brought a sort of life to our home lockdown. We both love hearing the sounds of the games in the background and cheering on our favorite teams. New this year as a result of the pandemic are the club's choices as to how (or if) they add in dubbed sound, and getting used to that has been interesting. Some might filter in synthetic crowd noises (which hasn't been as bad as I would have thought). Where there has not been any sound, the feel of the game is definitely not the same, however now it is interesting to follow the players and coaches' communication firsthand. My link shares an article in which a few of the team members from my favorite team, Parmia Calcio, were recently diagnosed with COVID and what occurred following. -

This fogger is a new sanitization device introduced to our daily cleaning regime at the Athletic Center. It plays an integral part in ensuring that the recreation spaces are sanitized for patrons and for athletes to use the spaces. The fogger is used by custodial staff at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm and the facilities must be closed for an hour each time. The fogger is also used at a closing time ensuring that the facility is sanitized for incoming athletes for their 6:00 am sessions. -

Professional Sports in a Pandemic
Professional sports have been a way for our nation to heal in the face of tragedy. It has given us a distraction from the everyday struggles and misfortunes. But this time is different, with a virus that's easily transmitted and unknowingly spread we face a problem we never thought we'd face. The ethics of continuing sports became unclear and the athletes safety was in the balance. Putting ourselves in their shoes is difficult when we look to sports as an escape from life in involuntary seclusion. -

The End to my High School Track Career
It was Valentines Day this year and I just got out of school and was prepped for my last race for my high school track season indoors. I was shocked that my coach gave my teammates and I the opportunity to run at Reggie one last time as we were barely qualified to run the 4x800. Distance running wasn’t something that I could describe as being experienced in however I was deeply invested in the sport as my diet, my routine and how I functioned daily was a mere resultant of it being in my life. At the time I knew a little about COVID seeing how it began to affect New York the most and how Massachusetts has seen a couple sightings of it as well starting to see some cases arise in the Boston area and throughout the state in general. Once my team got to Boston, the meet shortly started and I knew that I had a couple hours to chill around and get myself into the mindset of running well and quickly in my event. I finished my homework and I proceeded to look around the center with my friends just chatting and laughing like normal teenagers would do to pass the time. I got to see one of my best friends beat his personal best in the 1000 meter by large chunks of seconds and I knew that this would be the start of a positive day in the realm of Tewksbury running. My other best friend was able to run under 10 minutes in the 2 mile as he was qualified to get a medal for beating out the last Billerica kid that was in his way(in Track, there was some tension between my town and Billerica due to the proximity of the towns and the competition that they had). After bolstering enough energy to yell at them, I got my opportunity to run. Even though my race was short lived and I was put in a negative mindset for how poor I ran the race and wasn’t happy with my time, I was able to goof off and hype up my other teammates who absolutely killed it in their races. The sad part of it all was how I told myself that in spring I would be able to crush my current personal best in the 800 meter with ease by training. Too bad I wasn’t informed then that my highschool career for track ended there. In April, I reached out to the coach of Suffolk University to talk about my passion for the sport and how I wanted to continue my journey in improving my ability to race hard. Once I heard back from him and got the “ok”, I was pumped and excited because now I know that I can train my heart out for a sport that I love and see myself grow slowly over time. Some of the positives though were short lived as it hit me like a truck when I found out that I had posterior tibial tendonitis in my left ankle. At first glance, an injury such as this seems measly small and could be healed with proper assistance due to icing and stretching but this is my second time getting this type of tendonitis in the same ankle and it took me a little over two months to heal before running again. An added wound to this scar was the fact that I couldn’t cross train in some sort of practice area where I normally can be injured with having the comfort of other individuals surrounding me to forget that I ever got injured in the first place. Running by yourself is a mental obstacle for runners during the pandemic as they need to adapt to now mainly listening to their own footsteps. Being injured at home left me with the image that my teammates are progressing through the summer making the best of this situation and improving as distance runners while I had to chill at home and maybe substitute my daily run for a little more strength. A constant seventy days of that took a toll out of me as that was really the one excuse I can tell my parents to let me get out of the house for a bit. During quarantine and my time off, all I wanted was to goof off again with my friends as we question certain people who may be looking at us funny when we run or decide to run in the trails with nearly getting ourselves hurt. The copious amount of games of spikeball after a practice and the dinners right after runs were drilling right through my mind as the months of May through early July hit. Running is a great stress reliever for me and with the addition of being around people who adore the sport as much as myself, it feels like a second home that I could be myself and be able to progress well in. It made me look back on this Valentines Day and repeat to myself that I took some things for granted which were my passion for the sport in the atmosphere of having other people who love it as much as me and the time spent in general. -

Fremonts First case of Covid-19
This was a series of pictures that My football team posted at the Special Olympics basketball tournament that my football team volunteered at. No less than a week after this event, an article came out in the Fremont tribune saying that there was a player at the event who had just tested positive for Covid-19. Following this news me and the rest of my teammates had to self quarantine for a week. This was tough for us players and our coaches because many of my teammates lived on campus and did not have access to a kitchen to cook food. But thankfully our coaches were able to bring everyone quarantined food one a day during our week long Quarantine. -
