Movie Night: Drive In Edition
Going to the Drive In movies was some of the most fun that I had during the Pandemic. This was something that I had not done in a long time before 2020, but once Coronavirus happened going to a normal theater was not a possibility. It was really nice to be able to do something enjoyable, such as watching a movie in public, and not have Covid dominate the experience. While sitting outdoors, under the stars, it was almost as if things were not so unusual right now. When you go so long not doing the things that you like to do for fun, going to watch older movies out doors can become a highlight of the summer. Drive Ins have seen a resurgence in popularity during the Pandemic, the outdoor and spread out nature of cars and Drive Ins has led to many events being able to take place that might not have been able to otherwise. It would be cool to attend a Drive In concert with a band performing. I believe that I will be going to the Starlite Drive In more often than I had in the years before 2020. Also it was good to support a small business during the pandemic. -

Finding Beauty in a COVID World
In this series my goal was to share how I found beauty this summer, despite everything happening right now in the United States. This collection of photos serves as a reminder for me that although things are not normal and probably won't be for a long time, there is such immense beauty that exists in this world. If it weren't for COVID and losing my job I would not have experienced many of these moments that I captured in these pictures. Perhaps the silver lining of COVID is that for a lot of us, it has forced us to literally sit back and reflect and these photos illustrate the "COVID-friendly" activities I chose to do this summer with all my free time. Some of these photos are some scenic landscapes in NYC, where I live. The rest of these images are from various scenic places throughout the country, mostly in the West, where I began my road trip back to New York City a few weeks ago. -

Making the Best of Covid-19
A group of friends buy kiddie pools to enjoy summer with after their community pool did not open die to coronavirus. I think this picture and article show how people made the best of the pandemic. It shows how even though the pandemic affected everyone in a negative way, there are still ways to make the best out of the situation. -

Working during a Pandemic
This summer I was lucky enough to be able to work. Not only being able to work in a pandemic but with kids nonetheless. While the start of summer camp already changed, we were not able to leave our building for outside activities, and only a certain number of kids were aloud for each grade. We soon would progress to everyone above the age of six wearing a mask. While at first the kids did not understand why now they had to were the mask, by the end of summer they were used to it. This was a huge learning experience for everyone, including parents and employees. The employees are to temp check and hand washing before clocking in and doing tons of cleaning throughout the day. As well as making sure they wash their hands as well at the children. Parents cannot come inside, the kids will get temp checked at the door before entering, as well as them washing their hands upon arrival. While working now is scary because you never know what is going to happen these days if I or a coworker is gonna contract it. Every week it's a am I healthy? Are my family and friends healthy? Is my workplace safe? To be honest, working now does feel safe and weirdly so, with the constant cleaning and mask-wearing, I feel as if we are taking all the precautions necessary. God Willing, we will be able to keep this up. It a strange time we live in at the moment and by working it helps keep my mind off the scary reality we face today. -

Summer Vacation Plans
The coronavirus did not magically disappear by the Spring, and it doesn't look like the Summer heat is gong to make it go away any faster. In the tweet, we can say that for many people a summer vacation isn't going to be possible. Doctors and medical professionals are but some of the few people that are gong to be working hard through the summer to ensure that we are at least prepared come the Fall. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. I originally searched under the hashtag #thisyearmysummervacation. Within that search, I have chosen to add the following tweet because it speaks towards a changed summer atmosphere for everyone bit especially medical professionals who are not going to be able to get a break. -

Supply and Demand: The strange things that now cost a small fortune
With everyone trying to maintain social distancing to prevent the transmission of covid-19 during the heat of summer one thing has become very expensive, swimming pools. While inflatable back yard kiddie pools like the one pictured usually cost about $25 this one, and numerous others that look the same, are going for five times that on Amazon. Getting a pool isn't only extremely expensive in the inflatable variety, the same is true for larger above ground and inground pools. Our neighbor ordered an above ground pool back in late April or early May. The company delayed shipping for weeks and finally canceled the order because they couldn't fill it. At my house we decided to have an inground pool built. Though we started the process in early May the pool isn't scheduled to be finished until early October because the demand for pools to be built is enormous. Our builder told us they usually get about 120 inquires per month and in May they received over 600. -

A Tale of Two Curves
With the United States and many countries in Europe experiencing a similar timeline in coronavirus developments, I had hope that we collectively could buckle down as a country and flatten the curve. It was encouraging to hear stories coming out of Europe of a declining death toll, and various state and local governments in the US seemed to be having some luck in managing to contain the rise in cases. But as summer began and the country reopened, it really does appear to be that we want to pretend the coronavirus has just gone away; the numbers paint a disheartening picture. -

Summer Plans Thwarted by Coronavirus
Summer is something that I have always looked forward to, either as a student or as a teacher. It is time to decompress, relax, and mentally prepare for the upcoming academic year. Usually a good summer consists of travel, music/art festivals, and a whole of mingling with friends and strangers alike. Although flights and cruises are cheaper than ever, social distancing and the fear of the coronavirus has limited opportunities to have a fun summer. It means getting creative with the ways that fun can be had in the middle of a pandemic. -

Dogs in Quarantine
Although its mostly been humans that are being affected by the quarantine and coronavirus, our pets are also feeling the struggle. Parks both human and dog alike have been closed to enforce social distancing guidelines, leading to some sad dogs. Here's hoping that as summer starts a little bit more time outside is in store for everyone. -

What I thought would be an extension of Summer Break.
When school was first canceled due to COVID 19, my friend and I thought that It would be sort of an extension of summer for us, but we could not foresee the extent to which business would close. This whole quarantine and lockdown serves us right for thinking that we were able to do anything that we wanted. Basically, for people who look back at this in the future, quarantine for students was basically just school at your house where you didn't have a mandatory time to show up, still pretty miserable since you were bored most of the time and couldn't even see your friends. -

No More Different, Please
I really want more than really anything right now to go back to my usual routine and especially go back to swim practice. I am really fed up with doing different cross training to try to make my swimming not suck. It feels like even though I have been swimming competitively for seven years like I am not a swimmer. I haven’t even been in the water or gone to a practice in almost two months. I really don’t like how even if I go outside and go to a store that is open everything is so different and I can’t help wondering if these changes are going to last. Today I woke up I think the latest I have ever woken up. The difference is that when I saw how late it was, I jumped out of bed and got straight to work. I finished my workout so early that I got to make doughnuts. If COVID-19 had not happened I would have not learned all of the recipes I got to learn. However, I might have had my championship swim meet and been a better swimmer. *Original text in Creator: Nicole Dumitrascu #LSMS #NSD -
