Learning to Play Piano
My roommate Vanessa decided to take advantage of the online classes available at our university and decided this was the year that she would learn piano. She had always wanted to learn how to play piano, but had never had the time to drive out to lessons. St. Mary's University this year was offering all music classes online and she decided to take advantage of this opportunity. Piano has become her new hobby, her new way to relax. As her roommate, I have had the unique opportunity to listen to her skills grow from the beginning of August to now. She said if it hadn't been for Covid-19, she would have never thought to have taken piano or had the opportunity to learn a new skill. There are some silver linings in this pandemic and some of them have come in the form of new hobbies and talents. -

More Time for Hobbies [MISSING MEDIA]
The pandemic is obviously a bad thing. However, there have been a little bit of good that has come out of it. For example, many people now have the time to revisit and develop hobbies that they previously never had time for before the pandemic. Perhaps, they've even picked up new ones. For me, I got the chance to improve my photography and editing. I couldn't shoot people for obvious reasons, so I took my car out instead! The quarantine has definitely given myself and many others a chance to invest more time into the hobbies that we enjoy doing. -

Keeping Busy
When in quarantine, you try to find anything to do to keep yourself occupied considering were not allowed to see any friends or go out. Online school takes up a good portion of the day starting at 9 but really depending on when your teachers post the school work. Working on the computer a lot can strain your eyes so it's best to take a break to do something else once in a while. Now is a great time to learn new talents like baking, cooking, practicing a sport, singing, drawing, etc. Journaling has been a great way for me to just relax and express what I'm feeling. Whether it's just drawing simple lettering, looking at ideas on Pinterest, or even coming up with my own ideas and trying to challenge myself. It's sometimes best to not spend all your time sitting on your phone and watching TV the entire day. Also, there is now more time to spend and bond with your family which is always nice to do. Quarantine has really given us the time to remember to never take things for granted and to always live in the moment. -
