Something Not to be Grateful For
My thanksgiving this year was different than what I’m used to; my family has always had large gatherings at a grandparents’ house. This year it was just us, we made a small meal and had fun but it felt off without my entire loud crazy family. -

Thanksgiving in 2020
It was Thursday, November 26, 2020. Thanksgiving day. It was unlike any other Thanksgiving I had ever had. My usual Thanksgiving day would be me going to each of my grandparent's houses for dinner. But this year was different. We decided to go to only one grandparent's house this year. So we went to their house and instead of walking inside and having dinner, we had to stay in our car. My grandma came out with a little tray of food and handed it to us. It had turkey, gravy, salt, pepper, and pie. It was very hard for me to do this because I couldn't hug my grandparents (or anyone for that matter) and I couldn't go inside the house. This Thanksgiving was much different than any other. -

My COVID Thanksgiving
For my COVID Thanksgiving, I was able to drive 7 hours to see my cousins who I haven't seen in a while. We cooked a small meal and all ate it together on Thanksgiving day. We weren't allowed to have any friends over and we weren't allowed to leave the house that often. In the end it was fun but it got boring from not being able to do much. -

covid 19
During my thanksgiving, I couldn't see any of my outside family which sucked. But I got toes thereafter but I had to wear a mask. I don't have any pictures but an example would be like a simple trip to target is so hard because of prices being raised and having to wear a mask -

My Experience
My Thanksgiving wasn’t the same as all the other ones because my typical Thanksgiving is with my grandparents, cousins, uncles, and aunts. Since there is a global pandemic, we had to keep it small. So we had a small Thanksgiving with just my two sisters and my parents. My grandparents did stop by, but only for twenty minutes and we had to stay six feet apart. I didn’t have to get all dressed up, or even change out of the clothes I woke up in. My family didn’t even have a turkey this year! In February, there was no such thing as Corona. You didn’t have to wear a mask or social distance. I went to my friend’s houses and hung out in big groups. I was going to school every day and visiting my grandparents once a week. Around this time there were rumors that Covid was going to come to America and that maybe our schools would close but I never believed it. When I would hear about Corona I never ever thought that some of my loved ones would end up getting it. When people starting saying that our schools might close I was excited to have a shot break off of school, but little did I know it would be a nine month break. In February, I was careless and didn’t have to worry about washing my hands or staying six feet apart. -

Corona Virus
In the beginning of February I was living a really good life. I got to see friends all the time, dance with my friends, and just was learning a lot in school and life was good. Little did I know in one snap life could have changed so much. I get home from school March 12, 2020 and heard the news that School was closing for 2 weeks. I really did need the break from school and thought of it as a "long spring break". But soon it turned into more weeks than months. I hated online School at first, long zooms then right when they are done I got to work on my thousands of assignments due that day. No motivation to dance or do anything. I would lay down on my phone and procrastinate all school assignments. Finally, summer hits and some Covid laws were lifted. I got to see a few friends and go surfing everyday. This was what I loved during summer. I even got motivated to dance again. My dance studio then opened and I was off of zoom. I loved getting to dance in person again. Summer soon ended and back to the online school life. This school year has been really good because I adapted to the online education, and started to not procrastinate. Sadly, my studio got back online but it was okay with me. This thanksgiving and halloween were so weird because we had no family over and it was just not the same experience. In conclusion, this pandemic has been rough but I have learned a lot and grew in many different ways. -

Lockdown Life
It's thanksgiving in November 2020 for me it's a very casual day during the lockdown. seems like Joe biden won the election, King Von dioed not too long ago, also Kobe, Chadwick Boseman and Pop Smoke died recently. My family doesn't celebrate thanksgiving but this year we decided to go to my uncle's restaurant Novikov Miami but other than that nothing was really that special. Im in miami because my dad came here for his work but my school is online so it wasn’t really a problem and im going back to California soon. I like to go to the gym daily also i play Xbox with my friends almost every day. I play games such as Fight Night Champion, GTA 5, Warzone, UFC 4, Watch Dogs Legion and 2K. -

I think that it is good to have texts that talk about the lives of people that are not so upper class as they are living through this pandemic, since that is what future historians will use and they need to be able to access more sources. -

My Thanksgiving Corona virus Story
This year's Thanksgiving was different than most years. My family and I usually spend Thanksgiving in Lake Arrowhead and luckily we were still able to go its year. We also still got to spend thanksgiving with my cousins, aunt, uncle and nana like we usually which was fun. One of the things we love to in Lake Arrowhead is shop in the village but this year some of the stores in the village were going out of business because of the coronavirus. In the other shops that were still open we had to wear masks and there were lines outside of some of them. Another thing that was different was that a lot of our favorite restaurants were closed for seating and instead we had to pick up the food. Our family still had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and we ate turkey and all the normal foods we would usually eat. However, when we went to the local grocery store they were sold out of all of food and the grocery was packed even more than it usually is because people were getting worried about not having another food while were in lockdown. -

Thanksgiving in COVID
My thanksgiving was similar to a normal thanksgiving. The only big difference was not having other family members there. We got all our food like turkey, potatoes, etc. We cooked up a feast and played games. It was just my family and I, but we still had a good time! -

Covid Thanksgiving
My thanksgivings was not exactly normal however it was a holiday and a change from the normal grind of school so that was a good thing. At least I got a chance to take a small break before going back. However, with covid raging everywhere we weren’t able to have our grandparents or family over like we normally do. Instead, we decided to have Thanksgiving with a family that we are close friends with and had been exposed to. However, even that was a bit weird no handshakes, no high fives nothing that brought people too close to one antother. Besides that our thanksgiving was relatively normal except for the fact that we had planned to be outside in a well ventalted as recommended, but that changed as it was too windy to eat outside. All in all, it was a pretty weird thanksgiving, but it could have been a lot different. -

Thanksgiving During COVID
For Thanksgiving this year in 2020, my family stayed home and my mom made us Thanksgiving dinner for the first time. Restaurants had closed, preventing us from eating out on Thanksgiving like we’ve done every year previously as a tradition. For my mom’s first time cooking Thanksgiving dinner, we ate turkey, stuffing, biscuits and gravy, and miscellaneous vegetables which all tasted great. It was a new experience for us and it didn’t feel the same as going out to a restaurant with outside family or occasionally family friends. The day of Thanksgiving was a normal day except for not having school and my parents being home instead of at work which made nice family time. Thanksgiving at home was different, but still plenty enjoyable and delicious. -

Roommate Thanksgiving
This is a picture of my roommates and I behind an entire Thanksgiving meal we made just for the three of us. We all go to USFCA, and all of our homes are out of state, so none of us went home for Thanksgiving. It was a bit emotional for me because it was the first Thanksgiving I spent away from my family. However, I was grateful to have my roommates with me who I love! -

COVID College with no Family
Because of COVID-19 I have not been able to see my family in the last five moths since I moved into college. I would have probably seen them on Thanksgiving but my sister started to get sick. So my parents decided not to come which is probably the best decision. Even though it has been very hard to live without the on the plus side, it has made me become a better man. It has made me make more responsible decisions with money, life, school and basketball. -

Christmas Covid Wave...
After the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday, the United States has begun to consistently break the 1 day infection rate record. Even before the holiday the U.S. was breaking records, but despite this fact many families still held large gatherings. However the Thanksgiving holiday is only unique to the U.S. and as Christmas approaches there could be a global increase in cases if families around the world gather together. -

A Beloved Job that is Dying
I work at a great dog daycare in West Roxbury. We used to be very busy, and even during the holidays were forced to turn people away. Now my dog daycare is an empty building most nights, we have plenty of vacancy for Thanksgiving break, and I am forced to work an overnight shift so I can still attend college. I go into work at 10 p.m., there I ask, “how many dogs?” Often, I get witty remark like 22 dogs, but 20 are missing. Normally 22 dogs on a Sunday was normal, now I take care of 3 or 4 dogs. Sometimes I am lucky, and I will have almost 15 dogs to care for. I clean the building and I look at the whiteboards, where the dog names should be written. Instead all I see is a blank board and faded Sharpie marker. I miss being able to in on weekends and enjoying Sundays. Now all I do is sleep during the day and work at night. Sometimes I am lucky, and I can get a few hours of rest before my 8am Zoom classes. -

Unimpressive WinCo Precautions
While going grocery shopping for Thanksgiving, I was surprised to see this green bean display that people were going through with uncovered hands. Though most of the bulk goods at WinCo have been partitioned into pre-packaged bags, some of the produce is still open for people to touch. I know that COVID isn't highly transmissible via surface contact, but it was still off-putting to see people touching food that others would eat. I'll be washing my vegetables more thoroughly after seeing this! -

The Holidays Will Be Different This Year
The New Mexico Department of Health, created a short video encouraging people not to gather for holidays such as Thanksgiving. It is said that large gatherings increase the odds of transmitting or getting the COVID-19 virus. The video clip shows a family gathered for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, however they are communicating through their online devices. The conversations have not changed, just they way they interact. Every year my family gathers to enjoy a meal with one another. Holidays will be differnt in 2020, we will not be gathering but we can still speak and interact online. -

Officials are telling people to cancel any Thanksgiving plans people might have as a result of the rising cases all over the country. -

Black Friday for Walmart Employees
What I have submitted is important to me, because while I have worked retail and understand the important of everyone being able to share Thanksgiving with their families and friends and also the importance of everyone’s safety during the pandemic, I happen to be someone that did not celebrate Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving day. My family was always working and instead of being home alone on the holiday, I went shopping by myself, or if I was lucky, with a friend. I’m beyond ecstatic for retail workers that will finally get to spend the holiday with their families and friends as some have not had the holiday off in over 20 years. Perhaps this year, we as a family, will celebrate on Thanksgiving day for the first time in almost 15 years. -

Seemingly Innocent Small Gatherings are Increasing Infection Rates
@betsy_klein on Twitter reiterates new information from the CDC director Dr. Redfield that small household gatherings are causing another increase in COVID-19 infection rates. I was surprised and saddened to see this, because I thought small gatherings were okay/somewhat safe. I am also disappointed because this means we have to be vigilant about social distancing again.
