Waiting to Return 2
When the school closed, it was unlike any other closing. Teachers left up the bulletin boards and projects were still hanging from the ceilings. Do we take down the maps and put away our figurines on our desk to keep from dust? When will we return? It's only March. The school year isn't over yet. A month later, the classrooms are still wondering. The teachers are still hoping. The students are still asking. The wishers are still wishing. The prayers are still praying. -

Starbucks Lobby Closure
This video was shot the day the major of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, ordered the closure of all bars, nightclubs, dine-in restaurants, entertainment venues, and gyms. As a result, we had to ask customers to leave and stack up the lobby furniture. In the video, my coworkers and I are being silly but really we were all pretty freaked out. -

Uncertainty (Author: Gennady Khodov)
Reading the news earlier this year, I came across information that people in China got coronavirus, and some even died because of it. When I read the news, I thought it would pass soon and thought the virus wouldn't reach our country. But I was too naive. After a while, the situation in the world was getting worse and the virus had gotten into many countries. At that time, I was beginning to realize that it was all very serious and that the virus was very dangerous to human civilization. In many countries, the authorities took strict measures to protect people from infection. In mid-March, a state of emergency was declared in Kazakhstan. People were in panic. Many people went to shops and bought a lot of food. I had the impression that the apocalypse was coming. But I was calm about the situation and did not buy a lot of groceries. Then I started monitoring the situation and reading the news about the coronavirus almost every day. There was a shortage of masks and antiseptics in our city and the prices of these things were very much up. People started to lose their jobs and I was afraid that I would lose my job too. I was working in another city, and I lived far away from work and in the city where my father and grandmother lived. And now I've been quarantined in many cities in our country. I didn't know what to do when they quarantined me. I couldn't go to another city for my work. I got depressed. I was afraid I would be left without money and all my clothes and documents were left with my grandmother in another city. I couldn't get my stuff to my girlfriend's. My girlfriend is pregnant. And I was also afraid for her. She's about to have a baby, and I lost my income. At that moment I was even thinking about suicide. How can I provide for the girl, myself and the future child in this situation?) These thoughts have tormented and tormented me until now. I got another job, but they don't pay me much here. And this money will probably not be enough, and the baby will be born this summer. Cases of coronavirus are only growing and I understand that the quarantine will last a long time and I will not see my grandmother and father soon. But for now, I'm trying to stay strong and keep my spirits up. I hope for the best... But I don't know what's gonna happen next... Uncertainty is a little scary. And I want to finish my small text with a quote from Arthur Schopenhauer: The world is definitely bad in every respect: it is aesthetically like a caricature, intellectually - like a madhouse, morally - like a fraudulent brothel, and in general - like prison. (Translated the text with a translator. Thank you for reading it...) -

An Unseen First Wave
As more evidence seems to mount that there were deaths in the United States from COVID-19 long before the first "official" death in the country was announced, I become more and more convinced that I already had it. -

The coronavirus pandemic has exposed fissures within religions
The article, The coronavirus pandemic has exposed fissures within religions, from the economist went over how religions all over the world (mostly christianity) is having t deal witht he coronavirus. It goes in depth about how preachers and high ranking church officials are having to ell people to stay home and that some of them are not staying home but they are still participating in religiousevents. But the main point of the aritcle is about whether all of this is going to turn people away from religion. -

How Are Major Religions Responding to the Coronavirus?
This article by Kali Robinson is a great article that talks about the major changes that have had to happen because of COVID-19 . Robinson starts off by mentioning that religious gatherings have been hotbeds for outbreaks. She even mentioned that "Half of South Korea’s cases can be traced back to a meeting of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, a Christian denomination"(Robinson, 2020). Since the outbreak, they have had to close down many places of worship, and have tried to limit social gatherings. In India they still celebrated Holi even though their prime minister advised to avoid social gatherings. Most of the people in attendance wore surgical masks. Religious groups are now donating equipment to undersupplied communities. Most churches have moved to online streaming for their services like the Roman Catholic Church started to livestream the Pope’s daily mass and Sunday sermon. -

North Carolina Quarantine
In North Carolina, I am located 10 miles away from Raleigh. Wake County has closed all non-essential businesses, until April 17th. This is a huge loss in Raleigh's economy, let alone the world's. Raleigh is the hub for business personnel, dine-in cuisine, and leisure fun. 71/100 counties in North Carolina have at least one case of COVID-19. My county, Wake County, has over 134 reported cases. This is extremely scary, as we are such a small county, and people in fast food are still expected to work since they are considered "essential". It is a scary time for all of us, and especially those who are autoimmune compromised. Our Governor, Roy Cooper, has mandated a stay at home order for all who live in North Carolina. However, there is a lot of issues of people still going to the beaches on the coast and not social distancing. North Carolina police have begun to find people who are seen in groups larger than 5. It is to ensure that the virus does not spread to others, and keep the stay in home order a necessity. There is a bar graph to indicate the reported cases in North Carolina attached, and it was posted by David Raynor Source: NC DHHS and county health departments. -

COVID-19 Journal
I am very uncertain as to what to write in these journal entries or what people will want to see years from now when they are learning about the COVID-19 pandemic. I don’t know if anyone will even read this. I have never kept a journal or log, but with the events going on in the world right now I feel like I should. Being a history major I feel like this is a perfect way to preserve something that people will read and learn about years from now. There is a lot of uncertainty in the world at the moment. There are people getting laid off from their jobs because they do not want to work to shelter themselves from the virus. We are all supposed to be in quarantine but I feel like people are not taking seriously. Today at work people were just coming in to get out of the house. -
