Doctor Explains Why He Supports George Floyd Protests Amid Pandemic
Looking at protests across the country, I've wondered what the implications are for the pandemic. This doctor explains the difference between pool parties and protests over racist violence, is that only one is necessary. I believe one of the best things white people can do right now is listen to black people about the importance of these protests and help advocate for necessary change. -

End Violence
This picture if relevant to what is happening to Asian Americans, they face hate crimes almost everyday ever since the outbreak of COVID-19. As a young student who is proud to be an Asian, living in America suddenly sounds like a scary reality that we don't want to face, afraid to be suddenly attack by people who believe Asians are the reason there is a global pandemic. -

Hate and Assault Against Asians
This was found on a website called talent recap.com, “Hate Crimes and Racist Assaults Against Asians In American Escalates due to Coronavirus”. It introduces the viewers to several events that had happened during the coronavirus and how many asian descents are discriminated for “being the cause of the coronavirus”. During this pandemic I have noticed how so many people are being assaulted from other ignorant people about how they started this virus and that they should be tortured or blamed for the things that has happened. This is important to me because one time when I was in public with my sister to get some groceries, we came with gloves and masks on because we know we have a weak immune system and we also tend to get sick easily so we came protected, but when we went in the meat isle to get steak, a couple was standing there with no gloves on or masks stared at us and walked by saying “Go back to your homeland you chink” while i was speaking in Vietnamese to my mom. I was so angry at that time but I remained calm because we were in public at that time, however it angers me that in events like the one on the website shows how a father and his kids were attacked, in this case stabbed, because they were asians that were seen in public. And it sucks that so many innocent asian people are harmed so much because of others being prejudice based on their ancestry of being an Asian. -

Viral Tweet demonstrates unintended benefits of COVID-19 pandemic. March of 2020 was the first March without a school shooting in the US since 2002.
This Tweet really emphasized the ways in which COVID-19 has impacted some of the normal course of events. This fact is astounding and speaks to the gun violence problem in the United States. It brought other potential benefits to mind such as reduced pollution. This claim was also verified by CBS News: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-first-march-without-school-shooting-since-2002-united-states/ -

Yard Sign and Nova Scotia Flag in Condolence for Mass Shooting
While in many respects the world has come to a halt in the midst of the pandemic, there are some events of significance which are only tangentially related to the virus. On April 18th and 19th, 2020, the worst mass shooting in Canadian history was committed across several locations in the province of Nova Scotia. As all provinces remained in some degree of lockdown or a state of emergency, the normal mass gatherings, protests, and expressions of grief which would normal follow such a tragedy were impossible. Indeed, the victims could not even have the funerals well attended by the community and media which would previously have occurred. Instead, the outpouring of national grief was largely restricted to digital communication and small physical memorials. Local schools and government buildings lowered their flags to half mast for a week. Several houses in my neighbourhood put printed-out Nova Scotia flags in their windows as an acknowledge. This larger flag was attached to an existing poster-board and wood sign urging others to “Be Kind” and “Stay Safe” took on a whole new meaning. No longer was it just espousing patience and understanding in a time where blame is leveled against individuals and groups, and to stay healthy. Now it promotes the added message of peace (kindness) following violence, and safety when that is not true. The communal grieving process which would follow violence on the scale of that which occurred in Nova Scotia still occurred, but it looked very different. -

Graffitti on MBTA fence, Jamaica Plain neighborhood, Boston, MA
Poor people, Black people, and Latinx people are suffering and dying during the pandemic more than others. Most frontline workers in Jamaica Plain-- from the cashiers and stockers at Whole Foods and Stop & Shop grocery stores, to the pharmacy's staff, to the aids at Brookside Community Health and Spaulding Rehab, are mostly low wage workers, many of them immigrants and/or people of color. The pandemic is forcing people to address longstanding social inequities, and the White House is failing to gain any trust that it will help those suffering. As recently as the day before I'm writing this, Donald Trump was pushing for all states to begin re-opening businesses that are not necessary at this time, largely staffed by people who are financially and socially vulnerable. Someone is taking out their frustrations by graffito-ing walls around JP; this is but one sample. *Graffitto painter is unknown. Photo taken by Ashley Enochs *03/22/2020; graffitti was painted over within a week of this picture being taken *Ashley Enochs, Boston MA -

"As COVID-19 Starts in Nicaragua, Settler Violence Continues"
“The year 2020 has not begun favorably for the Indigenous Peoples on the Nicaraguan Caribbean coast. Amidst the impending coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, settler colonists (called colonos) violently attack Indigenous people and invade their rainforest lands. Ten Miskitu and Mayangna leaders and land defenders have been killed since early January.” #IndigenousStories -

In India, Coronavirus Fans Religious Hatred
Muslim people in India have been the target of brutal attacks, after the Indian Health Ministry blamed the spread of covid-19 in India on the Muslims. People of Islamic faith prior to this virus were already racially and religiously persecuted in India, and this claim is making it even worst. The fact of the matter is that the Health Ministry's claim wasn't wrong. The spread of coronavirus in India can be traced back to one Islamic Seminary. Once they began being attacked and broken up, that group of Islamic worshipers fled all throughout the country, spreading the deadly virus. In an already Muslim-hating country, the prejudice and violence is growing even stronger because of this coronavirus claim. -
