The Onion Reports that Nation Close to Getting Videoconferencing Software to Work
The Onion has been having a field day with the unbelievable times we are living through. They are doing a great job making fun of what is happening and our reaction to it. This article, written as we had to make an overnight change to working remotely and homeschooling, makes us laugh at how we struggled to get the videoconferencing software to work. People across America were all saying in union, "Can you hear me?" "Can you see me?" and "I don't know how to fix it." -

Thrive Not Just Survive - A series
In March 2020 when we in Australia were first told to head into lockdown stage 3, I realised that my community although initially bought together in our mutual interest in renovation and property investing were also now all in this time together and I could use my networks and platform to assist us all during this time. So instead of selling courses I concentrated on bringing together experts to assist my community. I also incentivised people in joining my community by encouraging them to donate to Kids Help Line (who needed resources desperately as they only could answer 40% of the 9000 calls they were getting a week) by giving them for free access to my Your Property Success Club (normally $695pa). I raised $10,000 in 14 days for KHL and helped my community through the initial confusion and stress of the shutdown. I have received so many messages about how these trainings helped and served and I am so grateful for the support of my friends, family and network who quickly responded and gave their time so I could interview them over the 3 week period that these 15 episodes were recorded. -

Funny Progressive Insurance Zoom Commericals
These commercials are airing on Hulu now. They are all so funny and typical of people struggling to work the video conferencing. One shows an employee, not realizing that she's not muted, talking about the other people at the meetings. Another one shows people's internet cutting out. A third one is a whole conversation about what day it was--a common problem during quarantine when all the days were the same. -

New Desks!
Our local school district announced that we will begin the 2020-2021 school year with remote learning for all students. When schools shut down at the end of the last school year, we made due with what we had because we believed it to be a short term situation. Knowing that we are heading into a new school year and we are still remote warrants some major workflow changes in our household. My husband will be working from home. I am returning to teaching as my maternity leave has come to an end. And 2 of my kids will be going to school remotely. In order to make it work, we will all need our own workspaces. Target to the rescue! The morning after the district's remote learning plans were announced, I ordered desks for the kids. I sure hope this keeps us all sane and on track this school year! -

She does webcam work along with sexting and other things. She has an 8 year old daughter and discusses how she explains her work to her. She is conflicted about what other people think of her activities, her difficulty taking money becuase the usual venues don't accept sext trade payments, how to get social media followers, how privacy acts are affecting her, and the benefit of porn to people who partake in it. She ends with "Porn is literally saving many people's lives during quarantine." -

Olive and Mabel Have a Company Meeting. Olive and Mable are Labradors
During the Coronavirus period, people worked from their homes. Meetings were held via video chat which had its own set of problems--things such as getting the software to work, positioning the camera, looking presentable, keeping the kids and the pets under control, etc. Remote school had the same problems with the additional challenge of keeping the kids involved and learning. This is a funny look at those meetings. Youtube user MrAndrewCotter holds a business meeting with his two dogs, Mable and Olive. -

Full Time Job Working From Home
This is my makeshift desk that my boyfriend made for me amid the pandemic. Having worked at a school and being out for the summer, I had to find a job over the summer in order to pay rent, bills, and student loans. I was fortunate enough to find a job working for a company in Salt Lake City. Due to the pandemic, the hiring and on-boarding process was completely virtual. Trainings were conducted through Adobe Connect and the company provided the monitors and the computer, as well as the mouse, keyboard and headset. We've been informed we will not actually have to go into the building until at least the end of the year. Working from home is an adjustment from what I'm normally accustomed to. I'm not used to sitting for a long period of time or having the convenience to be able to work from home. There are perks that are really nice, in terms of not having to travel or worry about getting infected with the virus. I'm enjoying my job, though like all jobs, there can be rough days. -

Behind-the-Scenes Tech Team Ensures Continuity of Learning
Like students, faculty, and staff, the IT team is adjusting to new working conditions, yet the group remains resolute in its mission. Dahlia Bryan personifies what it's like for many members of the University community working from home. She's operating out of an attic office, flanked by her two young sons who are doing schoolwork. But when someone needing tech support calls, "I put my headset on and tell the boys that 'mommy has to work and to keep quiet,' but there are times when I know the people I'm talking with can hear them in the background." said Bryan. -

Australian Government formal COVID-19 mass text alert
The Australian Government sent out a very curt mass text on the 25th of March to warn Australian citizens to follow COVID-19 guidelines. I chose this item because the timing and brevity was viewed by many as 'too little, too late'. It's a reflection of the fact that it took our government a week or two to absorb and act on the seriousness of the situation - not long before this message came out, the Prime Minister had still been encouraging people to attend football matches in high-capacity stadiums. Though the government eventually recognised the risk, and acted more decisively than some other countries, a large chunk of credit must go to Australians with the foresight to begin acting in advance of government instruction. By the time I received this message, my workplace had already been shut down to a work-from-home situation for a full two weeks, and the University of Tasmania's campuses had been shut down for five days. How the pandemic changed my everyday actions.
Every day, I cook (kitchen not pictured but in the same room), work out, study, relax, and work from home all in the same room. This goes to show that even though the world is changing in huge ways during this time, every day actions such as going to the gym have had to transition into the home. Small changes like this show how we have had to adapt routines that we wouldn't normally give a second thought to. #REL101 -

My Instagram Feed April 4-16 2020
My little hand-production company (custom hand painted fabrics for interiors)?agut down operations Match 18. Everyone was load off and I suddenly found myself working from home for the first time in 42 years. To keep us together spiritually I posted shots of our home activities, and it came to pass that masks took over., 3 of my work team of young people decided on their own individually to make masks at the very beginning of this. I thought quietly to myself, ho hum whatever. They taught me a lesson without meaning to. I sure as heck never thought I’d be caught dead in a mask - I had read the science back then, 4 weeks ago. It turns out, intuitively, they were on to something. Finally on April 16 so I put one on just to say - right on, next gen- you got this one! Just a tiny example of how the sweeping pandemic is blowing out all our preconceptions. -

Isolation and panic
When we were first getting word on the Corona virus and it spreading, nobody could imagine a country shut down. As reports of toilet paper hoarding, of all things, went viral, I, as a clear head, was telling people not to panic, not to give in to the fear. My work told us to work from home and so I started March 17th, 2020 working from home. The isolation is incredible. Your co-workers are gone, your book clubs, religious gatherings, meeting neighbors for coffee, mom's groups are suddenly all gone, in a blink of an eye. It is just you and your laptop. So after a few days of isolation, I decided to walk to my neigborhood grocery store for a few things. I walk in and at first everything seems normal. Then I saw the canned and bagged goods aisle, totally empty!! empty, shelves, and shelves and shelves - empty. That deep reaction is fear and panic. I had to really stop myself from panicking. As I walked around, other shelves of paper goods were all empty. Scary! I went over to the fruit and veggie aisles and those were full, which calmed me a bit. Everyone was keeping their distance checking out, so that kept me calm, too. But seeing those empty shelves really got to me because those are something you never see! This is week 4 of tele-working. I go for my daily walks, avoiding people. I pick up fast food or restaurant food or have them delivered, I visit my grocery store once a week or so. But yeah, the isolation is total. -
