During this pandemic I have learned how flawed our Government System is and the lack of action taken to help those who are suffering is outrageous. Out of all the issues that are contributing to the spread, NOT wearing a mask is one of the big ones. Those who are against wearing a mask think that wearing a simple piece of cloth is violating their First Amendment rights. They can seem to see as to why wearing a mask is for not only the protection of others around them but for them as well. People who do not wear a mask are the people who are spreading the virus, they are endangering everyone around them and action should be enforced among these people who are refusing to follow state mandates.   Back to Normal or New Normal?

  When I saw this meme for the first time, it instantly cheered me up after a whole day of doing homework online. I remember being excited that I didn’t have to wake up early for school anymore, and I could turn my computer on whenever it is convenient for me. Switching to online platforms for work and school definitely shows the government in action, allowing people to continue on with their lives while staying safe in the comfort of their own homes. At the same time, this shows the government’s inaction towards handling the pandemic because people are trying to make the most out of this “new normal” when in reality, we shouldn’t settle for this new way of living. The government should implement more effective regulations to reduce the number of cases, or its people would continue to live in isolation longer than we've expected. #unlv #psc101 #mlphelps

  This is a picture I took from a popular Bulgarian meme page on Instagram. The text is in Bulgarian and it states “First, show us the trailer.” I am choosing this picture because I think many people can relate to it. The reason I can relate to this is that last summer when I was in Bulgaria, I had the best time. I left with the summer memories and hopes that next summer. 2020, will be a prolongation. All year that was my main motivation but, alas. The year 2020 came with all its surprises and flaws, and all my plans and dreams were destroyed. This thought me that plans always change, and hopes and dreams can be easily ruined, but still, I would love it if we could get a little trailer of what to expect in the next sequel called 2021. After all, hopes and dreams hold us alive.

  This is a photo of Elon Musk smoking marijuana on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, captioned with the phrase “show me the money.” This is a reference to the astronomical growth of the Tesla Corporation in 2020 and the average investor’s potential to secure massive gains, as well as a joking reference to the near worship of Elon Musk that can be found in the subreddit ‘WallStreetBets.’ This subreddit often features ‘absolute madlads’ making huge gambles on stocks (usually TSLA, AAPL, or AMZN) and subsequently either securing massive returns tallying into the hundreds of thousands or losing everything. When most of my family was laid off from their jobs, my brother and I turned to day trading to keep ourselves and our family afloat. I was one of the only ones still employed at the time, and I was doing this in addition to working up to 75 hours a week to take advantage of overtime pay stacked on top of hazard pay. Although only my father and I were still working, everyone in the family still had bills to pay and the rent was still due. Tesla’s stock, specifically, has grown almost 500% this year and is set to grow even more. This meme is somewhat of an inside joke my brother and I had as we began securing leverage and buying covered calls on TSLA to increase our overall cash flow with the little savings we had to work with. We were quite literally counting on Elon Musk and his revolutionary car company that we had placed our faith in during this time to pay our rent. Luckily, it worked out for us. Ironically, the massive transfer of wealth to corporations from small businesses that went under as a result of COVID-19 was incredibly beneficial for my family and I since we invested in the right stocks at the right time.

  Jupinese JuJu Covid-19 video

  Since March 2020, the Hungry March Band, for which I have played tenor sax for about 20 years, has been on pause. We have not met, rehearsed, or done a gig this whole time. The only thing we have done is to create a few Covid-19 videos, in which everyone gets to have a different panel, since we can't all be together-then the editors mash everything together. This one is to the music of one of our oldest songs, Jupinese-JuJu. What I particularly love about the video is that we included shots of long time fans, emeritus members, and their families. I put in a couple of screen shots of me and my spouse (he's the pillow man) and a link to the video on Youtube.

Even when quarantine went into effect, people didn't wear masks or stop gathering in groups.  As a whole, humans did a terrible job at avoiding COVID and that is why this tweet is so important.

  During Lockdown in the search for routine and some sort of normality, usually my weekdays finish with ABC News at 7pm followed by 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown at 7:30. Being a news snob I have always watched ABC, but recently 8 out of 10 Cats has become a new daily routine that provides regular humour relief from a bleak day inside. Hosted by Jimmy Carr and filled with stupidity as well as 'play-at-home' Countdown gameshow rounds, I have really fallen in love with it. The show is reliable, positive and immature, three things that are hard to come by at the moment. Further to that a pipe dream of mine is to one day live in the UK, and with borders closing until the end of 2021 that feels like a very long pipe, but getting to watch it even now makes me feel like maybe I'll watch it with a cup of tea in London somewhere. This particular clip was one of the funnier things I've ever seen on TV, let alone on this show, and made a mediocre night watching TV a conversational piece about a carrot in a box.

  I resisted joining Tik Tok, and working on the archive I saw that some of the submissions were from this application, but I wasn't interested in learning a new platform. Then, when NPR started reporting that President Donald J Trump was going to ban downloading the app, I decided to download it and see what it was like. It's a funny amalgamation of short videos, sometimes music, that ranges from bizarre to hilarious. I keep seeing videos from the member TreyTV who does hilarious impressions of DJT, this one is a spin off the Idaho man who make a Tik Tok to a Fleetwood Mac song while drinking Ocean Spray. I have to say, as bleak as thing are right now, it feels so great to laugh.

And I recognize it's not the most mature move, but this morning I woke up and started looking for Trump memes or memes about Trump. On Twitter I found the hashtag #TrumpHasCovid and found this video. It shows a lego representation of President Trump at a podium, and the audio plays several of his statements about COVID-19 and the pandemic. In the end, Trump gets run over by coronavirus (represented as a tomato) and it eats him, but spits out the tupet.   Not Everyone's Cup of Tea

  While looking for items to submit to this archive, I tried searching Pinterest for some humorous memes to add. After reading a lot of heavy articles, i felt a little humor was in order; only to be thwarted by Pinterest. After searching for "Covid19 humor, I received a message saying that pins relating to this topic often violate community standards guidelines and so, results were restricted to established health organizations... I guess gallows humor is not for everyone... I tried a google search for the same search term and came across a few things but this article stood out. It discusses the rise of 'dark' humor and how it can, in some cases, actually help those trying to cope with difficult subjects. It confirmed my suspicions that those of us who have a 'gallows humor' approach may have been on to something all along.

  Halloween in August

  After 5.5 months in quarantine, we are bored. Like really bored. My kids starting asking if we could put up Halloween decorations around August 10th. We love Halloween. My birthday is even on Halloween. But Halloween decorations in August is a bit much - even for me! After a few weeks, asking turned into begging. By August 29th I decided "What the heck?! Let's do it. Halloween in August it is!" The kids, in their matching candy corn pajamas, had a blast decorating the house and trying on old Halloween costumes. Now let's hope we can keep the excitement up for 2 months until Halloween actually arrives!

  In the middle of the lockdown in Italy, things were looking pretty grim. Other than the obvious fear for the outcome of the pandemic people were feeling pretty on edge about police who were (rightfully) being very strict about abiding the laws about quarantine. People weren't aloud to see anyone other than the people they shared a home with and were supposed to stay inside at all times they weren't providing to their basic needs. One day I was looking through my window and I witnessed probably one of the funniest but surreal scenes of my life. A group of my neighbours were in the process of washing their car,there were maybe 8 people there between friends and family and they were very close, getting on top of the car and having fun. All of sudden they hear an helicopter approaching (police used them to spot "fugitives") and straight up jumped off the car and ran home all panicked. I couldn't stop laughing for an hour, it truly was a moment of release in the midst of worry and depression.

(For reference, "weeb" is a shortened version of "weeaboo", which is someone who really likes anime). A lot of people who have nerdy hobbies like watching anime have spent much of quarantine inside indulging in their hobbies but many are wanting to go back to normal life. Some things from normal life that have been canceled due to COVID-19 is the ability to go to anime conventions and bookstores, where many weebs can hangout and meet with each other. The frustration from the "anti-mask" movement and the lack of decline in coronavirus cases has spawned many anime memes promoting mask wearing and proper handwashing during the pandemic.   A Pandemic that got Old Quick

  In my opinion, teens and students around the United States were excited to take a one-two week break from school, and experience what it's like learning at home. However, as the situation got worse and when we went into full quarantine, the constant jokes and excitement of having a longer spring break started to not be funny anymore. What we thought was ok to laugh about soon became upsetting, especially for people like the class of 2020 who was missing out on Senior year activities and proms, and when people around the world were dying.

  Laughing with my Family from Over Six Feet Apart

  On a Sunday this past July, my cousin texted me out of the blue saying that she was about to start driving from her home in Oakland, CA to Los Angeles and that she would love to stop in Santa Barbara, CA to have lunch with me. I was really excited to get her text, because I had been feeling extremely lonely that weekend. I hadn't seen any family members in-person since March, since I don't live very near any of them. My cousin had been following social distancing guidelines extremely carefully since March, and I had also been following them while allowing myself a little more freedom. Given that, we didn't even consider having a not socially distant lunch. I picked up food from a restaurant for us and set chairs far apart for us to eat in my front yard. When my cousin arrived, she even volunteered to go the bathroom in yard so that she didn't have to enter my house. I thought that was a little over-the-top, and we ultimately decided it was okay for her to come in wearing a mask to use my bathroom. We had a great lunch, just eating and laughing. It was so uplifting to be in the same vicinity as a loved one. Then my sister FaceTimed us from her home in Chicago with her baby. This is where things got pretty hilarious. We tried to set up my computer in a way that allowed my cousin and me to both see and be seen while also staying more than six feet apart. It was nearly impossible, but our attempts made us laugh so hard. It just felt like such silly thing to be doing. I had such a great time with my cousin for those couple of hours. Her presence and all of the laughter definitely lightened my mood.

  What would you do if we could turn back time before COVID-19?

  What would you do if we could turn back time to a period before COVID-19? Asking this question today could possibly lead to many answers. Unfortunately, life, as we know it, has drastically changed as conditions have worsened. The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely changed the lives of so many people, and throughout this period many have experienced various overwhelming emotions. My life personally had been turned upside down from the start. Before the initial start of this pandemic, I was a seventeen-year-old girl working two jobs, a varsity cheerleading co-captain, an AP and honors student pertaining to various extracurriculars, and was about to make the most important decision of my life regarding my college education. As much as I was overwhelmed throughout this period I was determined to keep going regardless. But in a short span of time, after that, I had lost my two jobs and the remainder of my senior year in high school. The rapidness of these events had definitely taken a toll on my mental state of mind not knowing what came next. While the weeks continued we were all placed under quarantine not being able to leave our homes unless for essential purposes. The world had completely shut down in such a short period of time. And with much contemplation among myself, it took a period of time until I was able to completely adjust to what seemed to be a new lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect in the next couple of months left me in a state of cluelessness, and to think that others can relate to this feeling as well. So with selecting this phrase, “Has anyone tried unplugging 2020 for 10 seconds and plugging it back in?” Is such a critical way to ask what would we do take back ten seconds to what used to be our normal life? And as much as I would want to return to relive all my experiences that I have lost due to this pandemic, this time of isolation has served me for a time of revaluation of my own personal values. While many hepatic issues are happening in this world right now, I personally think that this time is what you make out of it while that be a positive or negative change in your life. As will never know what life will bring us next.
