Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek. March 2020
A Campolindo HS photography class assignment was to take photos of some nearby location that tells a story. My senior decided to procrastinate and ended up needing to complete the assignment during the early days of quarantine. A trip to a normally very busy Broadway Plaza shopping center in Walnut Creek on a Saturday turned out to be the perfect location. The only people we saw out there was a man and his son riding bikes past this center fountain area. In one of the pictures, you'll see the Apple store in the distance, completely dark and vacant. It looks like a ghost town. It's not this vacant even on holidays recognized by retail stores. -

Class of 2021 wins
Junior year is suppose to be the hardest but because of the covid 19, my classes are online and school was even easier. There was less homework and some of my teachers didn't even give us tests anymore. For ap Calc, our teacher planned to give us 8 tests in one month to prepare us for the ap test, but we got to skip that. Ap tests is only 45 minutes and Juniors were able to also skip the standardrized test. -

How will quarantine learning affect the quality of education for young students?
This entry reflects my thoughts on the future repercussions of a lesser quality and quantity of the learning of rudimentary topics for elementary school students, which directly affects half my siblings. If the pandemic continues at full force and people continue breaking quarantine, then this learning will be further disrupted in both quality and quantity. -

Darn squirrels!: School-at-home project lets Ottawa kids grow their own veggies
News article discussing a program providing seeds and gardening supplies to school children to provide fresh produce at home during quarantine, especially for those in underprivileged circumstances, and to allow for online group lessons on subjects such as horticulture, cooking, ecology. A particular and amusing challenge they are learning to face is the healthy local squirrel population eating their crops! -

Teaching under the COVID-19
My professor got a fever of over 100 degrees. For the safty measurements, he chose to stay at home to prevent potential risk of spreading the COVID-19 in campus. The lecture is mostly canceled except the quiz. Later, quizzes were held online as well. -

How COVID-19 affected my studies
The COVID-19 has affected us all tremendously, including oursleves the students. Some who wanted to strive in their spring sports, live out their last high school year and be able to walk across the stage and say that they finally did it, all the hours of homework, the football games, the dances, the tests, procrasination, drama and time they put was worth it. But on March 13, a friday little did we know that in Garden Grove, our whole community would change tremendously. As the days passed by, we were being transmitted to more online work, more restrictions, more work, and take more precautions. At first, as being a student myself, I was not worried about it at all and was happy at the fact that we were not going to school for two weeks. But two weeks turned into a month, then 2 months, and until the end of the school year. As a Junior in high schoolm that changed my academic life more. I was not able to take the SAT, i was not able to take my AP exam in school, finish junior year. This whole pandemic has shaped now the way we look at life, and let us see the things that we so call hate like school , is something that connects us to peers and gives us a better opportunity at learning the material. -

Life in a Macbook
Ever since school has been cancelled in person, I've been doing all my assignments on my laptop. I never thought that I would be kind of home-schooled but it's just the way it is. It has been a routine of mine to wake up and immediately grab my laptop to see if any of my teachers have assigned any work. I can manage working on my laptop but I miss seeing friends and teachers. -

Grades Truly Do Not Matter
As we wrapped up our school year I went to finalize the grades for the fourth quarter and found my grade book was entirely empty. It was a glitch in the system but many teachers joked that this was just a sign that grades truly did not matter for students during the 4th quarter. Which is a feeling felt by many teachers and students across the country. -

Photo taken of last day of work
Working at a school during COVID-19 has felt like a whirlwind. The transition to an online format with no notice and a sort of "learn as we go" training has been tiring. I'm grateful that things worked out and that schools were still able to provide quality educational opportunities despite being shuttered. Turning in my keys for summer was bittersweet. It'll be nice to take time to reflect and decompress over the summer, and plan for a potential return in the fall. It was a very odd first year in education, and an odd way to end the school year. A cloud of uncertainty hangs over the future and what will happen next, but if educators can survive this year, they can survive anything. #ASU #HST580
