The Effect of Covid
This year has been a crazy roller coaster. After a school activity at school, I learned that I was present with a person who was notified that they got Covid. I learned the information from a friend of mine who had to be quarantined at home. Since that was the first time I heard a peer getting Covid, I was shocked. A while later, I heard a few more students or teachers getting Covid. This news did not shock me or affect me in any way. I knew that even though there are new procedures, people being in-person will still have consequences. I knew that people getting Covid-19 is inevitable. Once people take the vaccine, I believe the probability of getting Covid-18 will go down. -

Remote Learning
School started in August 2020. It took place at home. During the spring, I already had experience in learning at home, so it was not too hard to adjust to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. I cannot believe that I have been learning virtually for almost half of the school year already. My morning routine starts at 7:30 AM. Sometimes, I would wake up at 7:55 and skip breakfast to attend my first-period class at 8:00. Then, I would go through my class schedule. We separate A days from B days. Each day would have different classes. We still had our required core classes and our electives. At the end of the day, I would finish all my homework and then rest. The benefit of doing remote learning is safety. However, it causes eye pain, burning, and discomfort because of screentime. I had no obstacles or challenges while doing remote learning. Especially this year, I have learned to adapt to changes. -

The Cause of Covid-19
In January, my parents heard the news about a disease that originated in Wuhan China. The assumption was that the virus Covid-19 was caused by bats. In the food markets in Wuhan, I think since the meat was not healthy and clean, the person who ate it got contaminated. The virus was first discovered when a patient arrived at the hospital with an unknown virus. The doctor that tried to treat the patient is already dead. Many viruses have been caused by sick animals. People could get sick by eating the wrong part of poisonous animals such as pufferfish, so the idea of getting sick because of bats seem reasonable. -

Christmas During Covid
This year for Christmas, it felt the same. There was only a subtle difference between the holidays of last year and this year. On Christmas Eve, my dad and I went to Costco to buy necessities lacked at home. All of the shoppers needed to wear masks, which is different from previous years. However, the current guidelines have been initiated for many months already, so I have already adapted. Every Christmas morning, my little brother and I would wake up to find presents from "Santa" under the Christmas tree. This year, I received a crochet kit and polymer clay kit. I gave my mom a watercolor butterfly and heart hair clip; I gave my dad a Christmas-themed fortune teller. After the exchange of gifts, I spent the rest of the day playing and fiddling with my new gifts. Most of my Christmases, including this one, are the same. -

Thanksgiving During Covid
This year 2020 is the year of the pandemic. Many people are traveling to other states to be with their family, which I feel is foolish of them, because not only are they endangering themselves, but their relatives. However, I do understand they want to be with their family for the holiday. I can't relate with those people because I never celebrate Thanksgiving with my entire family. I have relatives whom I never even met on the other side of the world. My Thanksgiving did not feel different from any typical year because my family did not follow common traditions, since we are Chinese. My mom just bought a plain turkey from Sprouts, which my grandparents turned into a spicy dish. But the main course wasn't the turkey, it was the delicious fish and tomato soup I helped prepare with my grandparents. The day felt normal because we never had an extravagant dinner. We only had three dishes. None of my parents cooked, instead, my grandparents did. Although my Thanksgiving was still the same, I believe some other people's thanksgiving changed. At the dinner table, we could have three or six people present, so the Covid-19 indoor capacity limitations didn't affect us at all. I didn't care much about Thanksgiving, since it wasn't my number one favorite holiday. It just felt like a regular dinner with dessert. However, I'm glad the pandemic hasn't changed everything.
