  Covid Affects

  At the start of Covid, I wasn't worried about the numbers. But after a few weeks, I saw the death toll and how this will result in a lockdown. My area which is in Ventura County didn't mind this virus and we all just carried on. But a huge outbreak started. We were not allowed to go to the beach and other places. This affected me a lot because I was already staying home for school, but when I wasn't allowed to go anywhere else, it really hit me hard. The outbreak died down but it was still pretty bad. I was worried about my grandparents. To me, Covid was a key that is locking me into a room that I can't leave. Living through this pandemic made me think about all the things I took for granted.

  Corona Symptoms

  At the start of this virus, I thought it was mostly respiratory problems. But after my dad tested positive, I knew what the symptoms were. At first, my dad was super fatigued and couldn't move like he used to. After that, he started to get very hot and feel like he had a fever. He didn't have respiratory problems. I think it is because Covid affects people differently. My dad had a slight cough when he had it, but that wasn't bad. But the main symptom that most people get from Covid is the loss of taste and smell. My dad lost both of those and it really annoyed him. I also read a story about an NBA player who lost his taste and smell, and I read about a lot of people who had the same thing. Luckily, my dad fought it off and is doing well. There are many symptoms for covid, but they all can be different for everybody.

  Covid Rules

  Covid was not that scary for me because I knew that if I got it I wouldn't die due to my age. But what worried me was all the people that can die to it. So in order not to spread it I had to follow rules. I had trouble distancing from my friends. I was so use to to being close to them and talking with them. That was the only rule I had a lot of trouble with. The rest were not that bad. I did forget my mask a lot. But I now have gotten use to having it. Quarantine was easy until now because now I am so tired of it. We couldn't go to school or sports. It felt like I was lazy. But I had more time to learn new things. The rules were not bad just really boring and hard to get use too.

  Online School

  When the teachers told us we were got going online, I was really surprised. I kept thinking about how this is going to be. I got excited to see how it was going to play out. We had 3 days off including the weekend for the teachers to prepare. That was nice. Online school started. At first I got super used to it. It was so weird waking up and going on a computer. At first I liked it and then finished the year. But when we were told we are starting 8th Grade, I got worried. When we got back into it and I was exhausted and had bad headaches. I stayed strong through the first semester. It was tough and interesting way of learning. It is crazy how so many schools shut down. Online school was an interesting experiment.

  The Cause of Covid

  When covid started, I wondered how this virus started. A lot of rumors went around and then I got my final answer. That a person ate a bat. There was many theories of other things but the more I asked people who knew a lot about the virus, the more I got the answer about the bat. It made me really think about how a lot of diseases come from animals. I was also wondering how the bat got the virus but I don't know for sure how it carried it. I also thought why would someone eat a bat. It just is super weird to me. Reflecting back on when I figured this out, it really hit me how crazy one bat, started this whole pandemic.

  Covid Christmas

  I got out of school for Christmas break. Once I was out of school, I felt like it just was a normal weekend due to being online. Usually, I celebrate with my friends at school but we couldn't do that. I just tried to excite myself for Christmas but I just felt empty because I knew I couldn't see my whole family. Its Christmas. Usually, on Christmas Eve I get home from being with my uncle and grandparents. But we did not go to that so I was really down. I walked downstairs to the presents. I waited for my sister to get up. She got up we were ready to open gifts. My grandma was not scared of covid and still came even we told her not to. We were still happy to see her. It was fun opening gifts. But after I had fun, I realized we weren't going to be able to see my other grandparents after opening gifts. Usually, we go to our other family but not this time. I was sad because usually after opening gifts I am excited to go. I spent time with my one grandparent and also had fun with my parents and sister. But even though we had a fun time, it wasn't the same.

  The Quiet Thanksgiving

  Never would I have thought that my Thanksgiving would be like this. My Thanksgiving usually is with my whole family. But this year it wasn’t. My grandparents are scared of covid and did not come over. My other family, like my uncle, were scared to put my grandparents in danger. It was weird not looking forward to seeing my grandparents. My parents and sister decided to just eat at home together. Usually when we go to the market. It is crowded but now, no one was there due to covid. It felt like a ghost town. We enjoyed our meal and it felt like a regular Thanksgiving meal but I still had that lonely feel of my other family. It wasn’t an awful Thanksgiving, it just wasn’t the same.
