Covid Statistics
Overall, I believe that my brother's (unconfirmed) case and my history teacher are the only people I personally know who got Covid. The high number of cases has my parents worried and all the social distancing and mask protocols in place. Also, the times people my parents know got Covid line up with the spikes on the graph during holidays and such. At the beginning of Covid I was rather happy to get to be at home all day but now I'm sick of it and the fact that I can't meet with people. -

Symptoms
We think that my brother caught COVID. It was back in January or February of 2020. He was at USC which has a lot of students from around the world who went travelling for Christmas and returned to school afterwards. Because my brother was in dorms and was so close to other people, his exposure was high and he had really bad symptoms. We first thought it was just the flu, but it lasted for a month. He was nauseous and his appetite was ruined for a while after. The campus doctors at USC diagnosed it as 'an upper respiratory disease' which is exactly what COVID is. -

Covid Procedures
There are a lot of new Covid rules. One of them that I don't like is that I can't visit with friends. There have been multiple times when I wanted to have a friend over at my house but couldn't because of Covid. I don't really care about the masks except that they ruined the fashion style for the next decade or more. The grade split sucks because most of my friends are in a different grade, but it's not too bad, because one of them got special permission to eat break and lunch with me so we can talk. Social distancing is also annoying but not too big of a problem. I also was doing school online fine. Overall, the Covid procedures are a somewhat minor annoyance. -

Online School
While learning virtually, I got to wake up at 7am instead of 6am because there was no commute. I set my alarm on my clock that also doubles as a radio, so when the alarm goes off it plays whatever station the radio is on. I have it set as a classical music station. I would get dressed, go downstairs, and wait while doing something such as YouTube. Most mornings I didn't have breakfast before my first class. I logged onto my computer and to ZOOM at 7:55, 5 minutes before my class started. After my first 80 minute class, I would eat some breakfast at around 9:20 and then do my next two before lunch. Something that was good about being online was getting to wake up later than normal. However, one challenge was getting distracted while in class. Since the teachers couldn't see what I was doing I often would read in class or do something else with my hands. I also enjoyed the fact that online classes could and often would be let out early, something that can't happen in person. -

Covid Origins
I'm still not quite sure what caused Covid initially, even after almost a year. I first thought that it was just another mutation of some other virus or something else, like the flu. I didn't really give it much thought. I first saw the claim that Covid came from eating bats in China in a youtube meme video, where one of the memes implied that Covid came from animal consumption. I have seen a few other things that also say that it originated when we ate bats. -

Christmas During the Pandemic
This year's Christmas was different. For example, we didn't visit with my Grandpa as much as we normally do, though we did stop by and say hello. Also, My Grandma didn't come by our house on Christmas and do the gift exchange with us. This year, it was just me, my brother, and our parents at home together. -

Life Before the Pandemic
Before the pandemic, I had a typical life. I had to wake up at around 6-6:30am to be able to get to school, which was 40 or so minutes away from our house. I drove in our new Tesla with my dad who worked at Joni and Friends. I also had begun carpooling with my friend Carly. We would sit in the back seats together as we talked about a fandom that we're both in and met through. Sometimes I would draw on ibisPaintX with my iPad mini with a stylus and a glove I crocheted that goes around my wrist and only extends over my pinkie finger so that when I rest my hand on the screen it doesn't interfere with the program. Sometimes I would crochet little dolls. After school, I would either have volleyball practice, go to Carly's house, or go to my father's work and do homework, play games, or read fanfictions while he finished his work day. If I had volleyball, I would sit at the pickup place while I waited for my dad and he would come pick me up and take me home. At home, I would eat, shower, read a bit possibly, and go to bed. The fist clue I got about my life changing was the news of the quarantined ship from China. At the time, it was just another 'oh look at them, that must suck, oh well' news report but it soon escalated into 'everyone is quarantined now'
