America First, Americans Last
I responded to our local hospital's call for donations for PPE and donated 10 N95 construction masks sitting in my garage. The same day I donated those masks I heard media reports of American companies selling millions of masks per day to be shipped abroad. It tells me that capitalism persists in this pandemic and that President Trump prioritizes the profits of some American companies over the safety of our health care workers. This reveals America First as a hypocrisy. Hence, I labeled my piece "America First, Americans Last". -

The tweet shows a picture of a list of homeless shelters the twitter users landlord displayed on their doors. This is due to financial issues for many. Ghost Town
Today was the first day I have left my house since the stay at home order was placed in New York. I did not expect things to be this quiet. I live in a busy-ish town and there was nobody on the road on my way to the grocery store. We have picked today to run all of our errands so we can limit our time outside. People in the grocery stores are all wearing masks and gloves, and the vibe is very off. People are scared of getting too close, scared of touching things, scared to bring their children in the store. I have checked on my aunt who lives in the next town and is a recovering cancer survivor, and she is doing well and doesn't need anything from the store. As of right now, there is no end in sight to this stay at home order. -

Phoenix Sky Harbor during COVID-19
Today marks my 7 year anniversary with a major airline right out Phoenix Sky Harbor. Although I wish circumstances were better, there has never been a day where I've seen the airport so empty, a ghost town. Due to COVID-19 we have dropped nearly 75% in revenue. In fact, most people think of the airpot as dangerous but when I go to work I only see other co-workers walking around, which is less than the grocery stores at this point. It's sad to see all the vendors and stores closed down. We all know this will take a while until things pick back up, months even. Until then we are all washing our hands, disinfecting everything we can, avoiding touching passengers boarding passes and remaining in high spirits. -

Nurse During the COVID-19 Pandemic
This picture is a picture of my mother who is currently a nurse and has been in the medical field for over thirty years. She has continued to serve her patients during the pandemic, despite the fact that she has a compromised immune system and is taking an enormous risk by continuing to serve. Her exposure to sick and ailing patients is a constant worry for my family, but we understand why she takes the risk and why she remains so dedicated to her work. On this particular day, I had messaged her to ask how things were going and she sent me this picture because they had finally received masks and gloves, which were extremely hard to find, even as healthcare providers. Here’s hoping to wider availability of the PPE that so many doctors and nurses rely on as their only line of defense against this devastating virus. -

An Account of Pandemic Life
I think it is time that we all look to our families and be thankful for the people and life we have been given because none of it is ever guaranteed. Each day we watch news reports vigilantly and hope for good news, but so far, there has been very little. Our lives have undoubtedly been changed and may never return to what we once knew as normal. However, the only way for us to move forward and collectively face this challenge is together. Being thankful for the sacrifices of ever person who continues to work and serve in their own capacity is essential to maintaining our increasingly fragile economy and community as a whole. There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel, right? All we can do is hope. -
