Second Adolescence
This photo is of my little brother, who is sixteen this year, as we were spending time together on the balcony of our house. This was out of sheer desperation in terms of getting out of the house, even though it is freezing outside at this time of year in the afternoons. For two months during lockdown my brother and I spent more time together than we probably have in the last three years combined, given that I am ten years older than him and have lived out of home up until last year our relationship was always a bit like ships passing in the night. In addition to that our relationship has always been vaguely parental due to the age difference (and possibly my own gendered conditioning to adopt a caregiver role), yet in this period I have had such a strange feeling of emotionally revisiting my adolescence due to the amount of time I am spending with my brother and cousin who is eighteen, which has been such a strange and disorienting experience. I feel like this has been such a pointed sensation for me as someone who doesn’t drive, and with public transport it is just bearable as I have some access to independent travel. But when I could no longer go anywhere at all without my mother driving me, I felt like my identity as a capable adult essentially crumbled overnight. There are elements to this that are positive, I feel like my brother understands me much better now and my relationship with my cousin borders more on the side of best friends than cousins in a way that would probably not have happened if I hadn’t been forced to put aside the cloak of adulthood which made me essentially relate to my cousin from a caregiver perspective. -

Cooking at Home
During the pandemic, I learned to cook at home since most of the restaurants are closed and stop the service of dine-in. Also, I think it is unsafe for now to go out frequently so I decided to cook at home. It is fun for me during the epidemic but I miss those delicious restaurants outside. -

The meme was created and posted on a Facebook group during April, and was part of a trend of memes predicting what terrible event will happen in the next month for 2020. Cancer Care Students Help Isolated Families During Pandemic
The pandemic has created critical needs for the families at Christopher's Haven, a temporary home for those whose children are undergoing cancer care at Boston hospitals. Students in Professor Jessica Mak's Cancer Care course--who had been helping the organization as part of their semester-long service learning project--have stepped in to deliver groceries, raise funds for essential supplies, and spread cheer remotely. "Suffolk students always go above and beyond to support and celebrate our Christopher's Haven families. Now, when our families are feeling so isolated, it means a lot to know the students are still thinking about them," says Catie MacWilliams from Christopher's Haven. -

The Time Has Come to Consolidate, Says Head of Olekminsky District, Russia
“At this difficult time, not only for our country, but for the whole world, I ask you to treat with understanding the requirements and recommendations of the district and republican operational headquarters for measures aimed at preventing the import and spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19! An enemy came to us, invisible and treacherous. He did not come with a machine gun in his hands or with tanks. It is invisible, and can only be transmitted through people. They may be our relatives, friends, colleagues, neighbors. Therefore, I ask you to remain primarily a HUMAN! With understanding to treat this or that situation and to those people who involuntarily appeared in it… Head of the Republic A.S. Nikolaev declared this year the Year of Patriotism. So let's unite our efforts, unite ourselves around our leader and repulse the enemy, as our ancestors did 75 years ago!” #IndigenousStories -

Work From Home
I took a screenshot during my work meeting where our boss was guiding us through the transition to online tutoring. I work as a tutor through the Advancement Via Individual Determination program all throughout K-12 schools for the Sacramento County. This is basically my boss going through how we can provide online tutoring services for our students and be able to claim those hours. So far, our services have not been needed much since teachers are mainly focused on how to transition to online classes, something K-12 public schools never experienced before. However, I am still very grateful because my work have been really helpful in finding ways to pay us through this pandemic. It also makes me feel fortunate enough to have the option to work from home whereas other people like doctors, nurses, deliverymen, grocery market employees, and other essential workers are fighting everyday in the front lines. #CSUS #HIST15H -

Be Smart Stay 6 Feet Apart
This sign in Frick Park, which is a local park near my house, reminds people to stay 6 feet apart from each other. It can be easy to forget this rule, especially in a park where we have always tended to assume that we have lots of space, but these signs are located every dozen or so meters to remind people. There is a big surge in the need to go outside to exercise or just to be in nature, but in these times, we have to be smart about how we go about it. \ -

Lockdown Laughs
This comic illustration that I saw got me thinking about how we do not appreciate nature and having clean air. We are so consumed by our desires to do what we want that we do not notice the impact that our activities may have on the earth. This comic made me reflect on the part I have had in increasing pollution. After this pandemic ends, I hope that we appreciate the clean air and work on decreasing the amount of pollution we create. #CSUS #HIST15H -

My Self-Quarantine Painting
During this pandemic, there is a lot of uncertainty going around and many people are feeling lost, especially when it comes to feeling productive or simply finding things to do each day. I am one of these people. As a child, I loved art, even though I wasn't very good at it. As the years passed, I found that I stopped doing a lot of the things that I loved to focus on things that I felt were more important, such as school and work. Just recently, I figured that I have more time than ever to reconnect with old hobbies, and it really made me happy to go back to doing things (painting, in this case) that I was passionate about. What this says about the pandemic is that although times are tough and you might find yourself stuck in the same routine every day, there are still ways to make the most out of a negative situation. If anything, now is the perfect time to catch up on some of the things you wish you could've done years ago. #REL101 -
