"December 31, 2020 at 11:60"
This meme is important as it shows what everyone's worse fear is at this moment, that 2020 with all of its problems will never end. Somewhat as if humanity was stuck in a loop. -

Lights Off
Amid the COVID19 pandemic, many people peacefully protested with gloves and masks, the racial injustices happening in the United States. After days of Black Lives Matter movement protest against police brutality towards Black folks, peaceful protesters gathered in front of White House. They were confronted with police in riot gear. All the exterior lights of the White House were shut off and the President was rumored to take shelter inside the bunker. -

Serious Problems
During Covid-19, everyone is so stressed. Many people lost their jobs. It is a really frustrating time for many people. A more exasperating thing happened. A black man George Floyd died in Minneapolis, Minnesota because of excessive police enforcement. A white police officer had his knee on George's neck for over 10 minutes even if George completely followed his instructions and didn't do anything to resist. Everyone was very angry because of this unfair treatment. The protesters started a peaceful march in some cities. However, the conflict between the police and protestor becomes more serious. Some protestors express their anger by robbing the shop and destroying their cities because society contract doesn't consider them. They want the government to make changes through the fighting. The riots seeking justice and Covid-19 became the most serious problem in the US. -

WECT News Addresses Downtown Wilmington Protests
The protests all over the country have shown the pandemic in a new light. People are crowding together when they had been told to stay apart for months. They are coming together for social issues that are as important as the health crisis at hand--racial inequality and police brutality. Within the news segment clip that accompanies the written article, one can see many protesters on the steps of Wilmington's (NC) City Hall. Although it appears crowded, many protesters are wearing masks. While all Americans have been fighting an "invisible enemy" for 3-4 months, many are now seeking to fight an issue that has plagued us for more than 150 years--institutionalized discrimination. Even more recently, they are protesting as a response to George Floyd's death while under a policeman's knee. Including the protests in Wilmington, as well as others in different cities, into this archive is important because these two events have never coincided at any time during recent history. There has been a pandemic of influenza during 1918-1919, and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, but there has never been such a moment in history as this we are currently facing. The future implications and consequences of the pandemic and protests have yet to be determined. The only thing that is for sure right now is that we will be studying this moment in history for many years to come. -

It’s a Socialist Plot Against Donald Trump
Some skeptics have lumped all the events of the past couple of years, including Coronavirus, into a giant conspiracy to take down Donald Trump and turn America socialist, This post claims Mueller, impeachment, Coronavirus, and murder hornets haven’t worked, and are suggesting the Black Lives Matter protest is the next in a string of conspiracies. The person who shared this to reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook mocks it by asking if these things didn’t exist prior to a Trump. -

The Virus is Fake - It’s About Surveillance
Coronavirus skeptics have a number of theories of the “real” reason for the virus. In the post, the woman claims that all the deaths are fake and it is all a conspiracy to vaccinate people, take their DNA, and be able to increase surveillance. This was shared on reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook. -

Cell Phones Cause Coronavirus
Conspiracy theories about the origin of COVID-19 include a vocal group claiming a connection between the 5g network and the virus. The person in this post claims that this new “cell frequency” produces the virus and is why we must stay six feet apart. The person claims the close proximity of people with cell phones in places like cruise ships is why the number of cases was higher in these locations. The person who shared this to reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook mocks the post by satirically saying to remember to turn off your COVID setting. -

Boycotting Safety Standards
Businesses, such as grocery stores, have taken precautions such as having plexiglass shields and only accepting electronic payments to avoid the spread of the virus. Some, like the woman in this post, feel that this infringes upon their rights and calls for a boycott of such businesses. This woman additionally refers to her post as “exposing the modern new life,” indicating how safety standards and a person’s choice whether to abide has become politicized. The person who shared this post on reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook mockingly calls the poster “Karen,” and states she “died of starvation two weeks later.” -

Protests Okay, County Fairs Not
Americans who were opposed to the closure due to Coronavirus have become more vocal about group gatherings in light of the Black Lives Matters protests. In this post, taken from reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook, the person questions why carnivals aren’t allowed to open, but protests are not being stopped. The Reddit poster sarcastically points out that standing against police brutality is different from going to a county fair. -

Corona and Riots
With the Black Lives Matters protests happening, Coronavirus skeptics question why there are suddenly no safety considerations. The underlying tone is that the fear was over exaggerated. The person who posted it on reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook disagrees, as you can see from the comment made about the infection not being instantaneous. -

Child Looks Into Barrel of Rubber Bullet Gun During Protests in Long Beach, California
Following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020, protests erupted across the nation. During protests in Long Beach, California, Richard Grant captured a striking image of a cop pointing a rubber bullet gun at a father with his child on his shoulders. Children across the United States today are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic and a large scale civil rights movement. What short and long term impacts will these moments have on our children? -

Reaction to a sudden lockdown
I have submitted 3 memes which highlight people's reaction to the pandemic. One of the memes shows what everyone expected from 2020 vs what they got which was police guarding toilet paper against people who were scared and started hoarding it. The second meme shows Darth Vader as the good guy as he is wearing a mask and listening to orders. This shows the redefinition of good vs bad citizen. The third meme shows the anxiety of people who are unable to pay rent and collecting more and more debt. With the government stimuli being too little to actually help, and the worst unemployment in history, people are feel attacked as shown in the meme. -

Lately I have been really sad as an extrovert because I haven't been able to go outside, meanwhile my brother is loving quarantine as an introvert. It is very funny how differently we are treating this, and I thought this meme helped to represent it. -

A privileged withe boy in a privilegedsocietys take on quarantine
For complete context, I am a white 8th grader at an exceptional private school who lives in the bay area and is very privileged. Today I will be talking about hat quarantine has been like for me. At the start, I was happy at thought of maybe a few weeks off school because of some flu but then it became serious and school was canceled for the entire year. as the days went on I started a routine. online school from 9 to 2 (with lunch in between of course) then exercise outside for an hour (pretty much just walked my dog most of the time), then play video games for most of the remaining day. video games were the only way I made contact for most of the quarantine with my friends. my favorite games to play during quarantine was 2k and COD but mostly COD. Anyways that has been my life for the last few months and it has not been half bad. Besides the fact I couldn't go out or see any of my friend's quarantine was kinda nice. But after a while, people started getting tired of quarantine and started to see their friends again. It started with most girls who were craving social interaction and then eventually after a few weeks spread to the boys. another thing about quarantine was I was on my phone a lot. I averaged around 7 hours a day of screen time which included binging of Netflix shows, viewing of plenty TikTok, and sending lots of snaps. Some shows I have watched over qaurantine are tiger king, money hiest, community, all american, space force, etc.. also, another thing if this matters to you are my political beliefs. I am liberal and I think trump is an awful president and person (excuse my language). Anyways quarantine hasn't been too exciting and it has been kinda boring. also, the protest in the name of George Floyd and I do not support the violent protests but I truly believe In the cause that they are supporting and I think we shouldn't have to live in a racist world. If I am being honest I would actually like to go to a protest but my parent probably won't let me because its "dangerous" or something along those lines. Anyway, that has been my take on my quarantine and I hope whoever you are that is reading this that you are living in a better world with a better government right now. Thanks for your time. -please excuse my awful grammar -

Pandemic
Staying at home locked up is very odd. It takes a toll on your mental health because you are not able to see your friends or anyone outside your immediate family. It is hard to connect with others and you will see the other side of most people's personalities. Letting yourself be who you are is very important. Taking time to do what you love (if possible) is a great way to let out steam. Workouts and staying fit as well as movies and video games are good ways to spend time. The pandemic of 2020 will always be remembered, likely not fondly. -

4,000+ Protestors Arrested During Pandemic
Protests have erupted across the U.S. in response to another death of a black man in police custody. The protests have continued for seven straight days and over 4,000 people have been arrested. This creates a larger problem during the time of covid 19. With officials concerned about the spread of the virus within incarcerated populations and releasing inmates early, are they concerned about the thousands they are arresting? Are they keeping those arrested in jail or releasing them? Is the pandemic effecting their choice? -

Trump focuses on law and order instead of unity
The nation has experienced a full week of protests, some violent, in response to the killing of a black man in police custody. The president has remained silent except for a few tweets. On a call with the nation's governors he shared his feelings and appears to be more focused on how we appear to the world at large and maintaining law and order, rather than uniting the country, offering solutions, or addressing the feelings of the protestors. -

When my school was shut down on March 13, I knew that COVID-19 had impacted and spread toward the city. I immediately went into a state of panic and stress, hoping that my family and friends would be able to pull through. After talking about what to do with my parents, I did my best to stay calm and follow the safety guidelines. The state announced that people would quarantine themselves at home for the next couple months. My parents started to worry about food and other resources but we did our best to reassure that we had enough necessities. After reading the guidelines, we always wore masks and brought gloves and hand sanitizer to not only protect ourselves- but from others. During these three months of quarantine, I have been keeping up with the news about COVID-19 and continue to keep my family and others safe. -
