Life During the Pandemic
This photograph is about the time that my sister and I went to a pumpkin patch with a friend of ours. It was a different experience because we had to wear masks and keep our distance from the rest of the people, we had gone to a pumpkin patch the year before and it was completely different because we didn’t have to maintain our distance of wear masks and we were free to roam around wherever we liked. The reason why this was important to me is because I remember since it was our first time doing an activity like this during the COVID where there was a little bit more risk we were a little scared but at the same time we thought we can’t just stay inside forever and stop living. -

Art Without Talent
I was never an artsy person nor was I someone who terribly hated arts either. When the pandemic hit, like any normal person, I stayed at home and was submitted to finding ways to entertain myself when nothing else could. I actually bought some markers on a whim thinking they were on sale. However, when I realized they were not, I wanted to return them. Until, I tried them and immediately loved them. I couldn’t draw well with them, but I loved the doodles I would just scribble out when I was bored. The vibrant colors were wonderful to my eyes and felt so free. They became a way for me to simply enjoy mundane life in the midst of this global pandemic. -

Jewish Melbourne: Chabad on Carlisle Erev Sukkos Appeal
Chabad on Carlisle - Jewish Russian Centre organised a fundraiser for Sukkos: "In a talk which he delivered on Erev Sukkos, the Rebbe described Yud Daled Tishrei as a day when Jews should literally splurge in giving tzedoka. This year, the call for generosity is so much greater due to the impact of Covid, and the funds you donate will be distributed to alleviate financial hardship and enable the celebration of Succos with true joy and peace of mind." -

crochet me a quarantine blanket
I had seen youtube videos of people making a “quarentine blanket” I did know how to crochet but i never took serious interest in it before. But now with all this time i said f it and i pulled everything out. I had so many things that i forgot i had, i was a little overwhelmed at first but after a couple youtube videos i figured out what everyting does and i got the hang of it. If we never had this pandemic, i would have never been able to take an interest in it and also i wouldnt have thought i could ever do it. -

Should I Go Home?
COVID-19 has created a situation like no other. You can honestly go and study abroad. With all classes being online and there being no in-person meetings you could pack your bags and study wherever there is WIFI. Ironically this also proves risky. Going to places that have high-risk family members is difficult. I could go visit my grandma in The Bahamas, but what if I bring COVID... It's interesting seeing how countries and managing their own issues of travel. Countries like The Bahamas that are dependent on tourist travel, are desperate for a time of reopening, often crafting plans that allow travel. -

Roadtrip
This is a picture of my husband from our trip to Chimney Rock, North Carolina. We had not left our city of Charleston for months due to Covid, but decided to take a small trip for my 30th birthday. The entire time we were playing tourist, we wore our masks and did our best to social distance. In the area we stayed, there were signs everywhere that explicitly said, "You must wear your mask" or "Masks are required". However, many people chose not to wear them or had them on incorrectly. It was a little odd being around so many people during this time, but we made the best of it. -

TD3 20-21 School Plan
I chose a PDF file detailing Tempe Elementary School District’s (TD3) plan for the 2020-2021 school year. This details when and why the school district is pushing back in person start dates and what they are doing to help the students/staff during the pandemic. It’s important to me because this is the school district I work for so it has an affect on what I do. -

New York City imposes $1,000 fine for people who refuse to wear masks in public
This article is about how New Yorkers will be fined up to $1,000 if they do not wear a face mask in public. I chose this article because i don't like wearing face masks in public, i believe that masks should be optional and not mandatory. Life now during the pandemic reveals that you don't really have a choice, you have to abide by the law even if you don't want to or agree with it. This article informs us what other states are going through, we aren't the only ones unlucky but it also shows us to be grateful that we aren't getting fined for not wearing masks in public places. In this article you won't find too much bias, however whenever they spoke about the mayor of New York they spoke about him as “Democratic Mayor Bill”. The media's responsibility during the COVID-19 pandemic is to inform the general public about what is happening around us in the world, showing us we are not the only ones going through this unfortunate times. The media during the pandemic has not been much an informer but as a source to hear bad things about our country and government. -

The Train!
I've lived in my current residence for nearly a year and a half now. Since moving in, every night and sometimes throughout the day, I hear and feel the train moving past my house. The tracks are just behind the alley that backs up to my backyard. I spent a lot of time in my backyard, but until the pandemic took over I never actually saw the train. One night in October 2019, my friends and I sat in my backyard waiting for the train to come and it never did. I don't think I ever saw it because when it would come during the day I would be at either work or school and I would not spend too much time in my backyard at night. Now I see it all the time. I still remember seeing it pass for the first time and thinking "Wow! It's literally right there." Just another funny thing I would have never noticed. -

Prisons Are Mostly Closed to Journalist During Covid
As this Tweet from journalist, Sara Tardiff, explains prisons are closed as a precaution to slowing the spread of Covid-19. This means one of our only windows into what is actually happening behind bars is coming from incarcerated persons using contraband cell phones. -

The COVID Pandemic and economic greed
I wanted to share a bit about my life during COVID. My brother is currently incarcerated, and I would travel at least once a month to visit him. Once COVID hit, visitations were canceled, and my family was forced to rely on phone calls or snail mail. My brother would call us about once a week for his own sanity and ours as well. Several things have happened these past few months, which made our situation as a family more complicated. A phone call to my brother used to cost him (or us) 40 cents a minute. When COVID hit the private company used by the prison to facilitate calls, decided to take advantage of our reliance on phone calls and upcharge their prices. Phone calls now cost over a dollar a minute. Thankfully my family does ok and phone calls are not something we are willing to let go of, but I feel for families who have to choose between food, bills or funding their calling account. I know it sounds like an extreme situation, but there are families that have lost all contact with their loved ones who are incarcerated because of COVID, and these companies are taking advantage of the pandemic. Were now paying almost twenty dollars for every ten minute conversation, trust me it adds up real quick. The worst part is that these companies have contracts with the prisons, and we (the families on the outside) have no choice or say as far as what company we are able to go through to talk to those incarcerated. As if COVID and social distancing weren't enough, I'm now missing and worrying about my brother more than usual.
