Pebbles
I am an animator and I was hospitalized for kidney stones and anemia. First time in my life to get hospitalized and it had to be during a pandemic. During my stay I couldn't help but felt really down. The atmosphere was just so depressing. But during my stay I got to hear the struggles from the nurses as they they chat in the hallway. How they didn't get to have lunch, didn't get bathroom breaks, and not having enough sleep before work. Their struggles inspired me to tell their stories in a small way that I can, so I started planning on animating this experience as I was still in hospital bed. Hoping that it could somehow help nurses get assigned to just enough patients per shift as to not overwhelm them, to get tested and get the care they deserve as healthcare workers, and to be made sure their well-being is taken care of. -

Defunct Shopping Centers Become Senior Housing Solution
Due to economic hardships brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, many shopping centers and malls have seen their last shoppers. Many of these structures are now being repurposed for upscale, senior retirement living. The article observes that the over-65 population is “increasing by about 10,000 a day,” which makes such repurposing an inventive and useful idea. Wasik also writes that “the retail-to-housing transformation [has] been accelerated by the pandemic.” -

HIST30060: Corona Cup
HIST30060: The Richmond Tigers mean so much to my family, and this year, being able to turn on the TV and continue to watch the footy gave our week some sort of structure. What this object says about the pandemic is a testament to continuity: what continues and what stops during a pandemic is crucial to understanding what is important to our society. -

"There is a before and an after. Treat yourself gently." - Red Blood, Black Ink
A poem about the times, and how it drags on. Transcript: [People say this new thing - well, that was before. We casually delineate - oh, but then quarantine. No, this was after March. I hear the same tired, bitter tone in myself. Of course, I say, then covid happened. I mock my own choices; grit my teeth about finances, sneer about my English degree, sigh about loans from college. I regret what I didn’t appreciate. What I took for granted. I get angry at my past self - the trouble she didn’t avoid. But I also hear - each of us, just a little, being gentle to each other. Well, you didn’t know, we say. It’s okay, we say, you will find something. Oh, tell me about gardening. Tell me about those new hobbies. Tell me about the crack in the floor you spent a week trying to refinish. Tell me about the new show you’ve been watching. It’s okay if it’s not much. It’s okay if you have no idea what the future looks like. It’s okay, none of us do. Be gentle to yourself. On this side of events, we care more, listen harder, value time with others. We talk about birds and we notice clouds and we have slowed down. There is a before and an after. Treat yourself gently.] -

Discord Dodgers Fumble
After multiple games on CS:GO Sam, Will, Mateo, Elias, and I decided to watch the stream of the 2020 World Series game 4. Will projected the game in the call on discord. Many of us including me dislike the Dodgers and therefore rooted for the Rays. When Brett Phillips went up with runners on 1st and 2nd we were thinking it was the end because of Philip’s poor stats. I remember distinctly not being able to hear anything in my headset because we were all screaming so loud into our microphones on the call when Brett singled into center. The center fielder fumbled the ball wasting time and on the throw the catcher dropped the ball scoring 2 and giving the Rays the win. It makes me sad that we can’t meet and see each other to watch the game but, it was nice to play and listen to my friends. -

Restaurants after Covid-19.
The meme explains the struggle of not being able to go out and eat at a restaurants and how good it will feel when you are finally able to. I thought it was funny because it took a scene from the show The Office and made it about Covid-19 instead and when I saw it it made me laugh. -

Sensory History & COVID-19, Lesson Plan
This curriculum was designed for a junior level US History course. First, students learn about sensory history through the study of a historical event. Then, students are asked to submit a COVID-19 sensory memory to the JOTPY archive. The curriculum and student work are being submitted to the JOTPY archive to provide insight into the sensory history of COVID-19. They also give insight into the vast array of perspectives teenagers living during the COVID-19 pandemic have based on the diversity of their current life experiences. -

Into the wild
Going out is odd. It feels like a battle zone. Is it worth the risk? The virus death rate has lowered significantly... are the masks working? I run errands now, amongst people. We no longer shake hands. Did our interaction rate drop? Perhaps it's the defensive tactics. Washing hands. Sanitizing. maybe most of the weak died... Winter is approaching.
