Covid Wedding
My daughter and son-in-law had a Covid wedding. Only days after the Solano County shelter in place was reinstated. They have waited so long to be married. Waiting for Covid to be over just seemed endless. The wedding was held at the grooms parents house and only a few very close family attended. Everyone else was sent invitations to attend via zoom. The photograph shows my daughters and her new husband thanking guests online. In all honesty it was a perfect day! This was shared with permission from the Bride and Groom. Covid Wedding! -

I found a Community.
Being in quarantine with a toddler can be isolating, They don’t understand you like other adults do, their vocabulary is growing, but mainly you hear, “mama” all day. So I found a community. I found other moms in my position. I wrote posts and engaged in conversation. I asked them about their experiences during this pandemic. I heard stories of despair, of growth, or isolation. I remember them now and always will. COVID-19 has caused a lot of distress for mothers across the world; losing those few hours out of the house, interacting with other adults, being able to forget the toys strewn about the house and the magic marker on the walls. So we found a community. We talk about our children, our families, the things we miss, the changes we’ve had to make, the things we can’t wait to do and we found solace in the comfort of each other. Even if we’ve never meet in real life; during the pandemic, we found a community. -

To Mask or Not to Mask?
The mask controversy takes on a new light when you are raising a toddler during a pandemic. My son is too young to wear a mask, he is too young to protect himself and I have to depend on others to wear their masks to protect him. From March until late August, my son only traveled from his home to my parents house, a three minute walk up the street. He did not have outside contact with anyone out of his immediate family. Until one day, I had to take him grocery shopping with me and a new world of worry became very obvious. I understand people wanting to practice their constitutional rights, but I don’t think it applies to wearing a mask. Wearing a mask doesn’t protect you, it protects those around you. For those of us, struggling to be parents and having to bring out under two year olds out, PLEASE WEAR A MASK. You can have your right to freedom of speech and everything else, but when it comes to protecting those little humans you walk by and don’t think much of, your germs can harm them. We don’t have a choice to mask our babies because of suffocation, but you, you can wear a mask and help us protect them. -

A Choice of Monetary Support or Raising your Children?
This report done by the Center for American Progress really opened my eyes to the way mothers have been affected by the pandemic. For so many mothers, the pandemic forced them to choose between supporting their family by working, or leaving the workforce to become stay at home parents. For myself, I had no other choice than to become a stay at home mother because of the closing of schools and childcare. My son is a toddler, before pandemic he attended a private childcare two days a week and spent the other three with family members so I could work. By the quarantine in March, my job had “closed for the foreseeable future” and my son no longer could visit his family due to the risks. As most of the population has, mothers have made sacrifices this entire pandemic, they have struggled to provide, given up the little time away from home they had and stepped into numerous different roles to ensure their children are safe, cared for and learning. Now, I question if there could’ve been more help for the mothers around the country when the pandemic hit? Could the government relieved some of the stress of losing an income? Why was it a choice between money and the lives of their children? -

Outdoor Dining
When restaurants were allowed to open again, Loretta created outdoor dining for guests. When it got colder, heaters were put up, and blankets and seat warmers were offered. People have really liked the outdoor seating, not only because it is safer to eat outside, but because they also like to watch people, as I have learned from guests. I think that outdoor seating will increase in the future, and people will come to enjoy it more than indoor dining. Outdoor dining was already popular before the pandemic, but perhaps one day when people look at the past, they will notice how much outdoor dining continued even after the pandemic. -

What Effect Does A Pandemic Have On a Relationship?
As this interview is part of a collection exploring relationships and the exploration of sexuality during the Covid-19 pandemic, I really wanted to get to know some more about what it’s like to have a relationship altered by the pandemic. Luckily, I knew just the people. I reached out to two of my best friends on campus and asked if they’d be willing to speak about their experiences, which they agreed to. I already had an interview set up with a friend who went through a whole relationship (began dating and broke up) during the pandemic, but I felt it was important to explore multiple different types of relationships. This interview to me shows something about my generation living under Covid, as it shows how many of us felt like we were stripped of the indepence we gained when we left for college, and how we now have to navigate living at home again. In the case of these two, they also have to navigate being intimate and romantic with each other in this situation. -

How Does A Pandemic Help One Explore Sexuality?
In about September or October, I remember my friend reaching out to our group chat about how she was questioning her sexuality. This questioning soon led her to the realization that though she had identified as straight her whole life, she felt that the label of bisexual fit her better. Next thing I knew, she was dating a girl. When I decided to seek out material related to the expression of sexuality during the pandemic, I knew immediately that I wanted to dive deeper into her story and see if the pandemic had anything to do with the situation. One of the biggest issues I had with this interview was making sure that I was not overstepping any boundaries and getting too personal, going back to the ethical responsibility that historians/archivists have to respect the privacy of those who are aiding in their contribution. However, I feel that not only did I find more out about the effects of the pandemic, rather, I found more out about my friend than I had expected to. -

Positive Affirmations for Mental Health (especially in a pandemic!)
This is a journal entry consisting of positive affirmations and gratitude practice. Just like everyone, I have been dealing with many mental health issues during this pandemic and have had days where I wanted to do nothing but disappear into some alternate universe and be rid of all my problems. I spent a lot of time on the app, Tik Tok and stumbled upon many videos about manifestations, affirmations and spirituality in general. Though affirmations have been a thing for quite some time, some of the videos dove in deeper by talking about the law of attraction. I was a bit skeptical at first but I looked up some success stories and felt intrigued. I decided to give affirmations and gratitude a go as a way to not only brighten my mood, but to help me appreciate life more in general and bring more positive vibes into it. I’m not saying that doing this solves all your issues, but it has definitely worked wonders for me, especially during these darker days of the world. I advise anyone to give this a try because I truly think just about anyone would notice a difference by making affirmations and gratitude a daily habit. Whether one wishes to try specific manifestation techniques to dive deeper into these practices is subjective based on how much they believe in spirituality, but basic affirmations and gratitude alone can make a big difference. -

Online Learning during Covid
In March of 2020, My school Oaks christian was shut down and moved to online because of Covid-19. At first I was extremely excited for this and thought it would be just an easy two weeks of doing online work. It was very nice and a good break to have for the time being and I did really enjoy it, I was so relaxed by it and took off a lot of stress. After 2 months that changed fast. It went from all fun and easy then to more work than I have ever done, I was extremely overwhelmed and had to do so many things and I hated it. Lucky summer break came along and I was finally stress free, That was until the school year of 2020 came up and now I am more stressed than ever. I am a eighth grader that's getting assigned high school level work at a much higher than average work load, I do hope this gets better but this is truly hard to get through. -

Pick Up Only Orders At Local Restaurant
While some restaurants have opened their dining rooms there are still some places that are only to-go or pick up only. This past weekend I traveled from San Antonio to Houstonand visited a few restaurants. Most of them allowed customers inside but Taco Flores was only doing pick up only. The small restaurant is in tune with the coronavirus and has raised their standard of cleanliness to protect their customers and employees. These changes included changing their orders served in disposable plates, individual containers for their sauces, one time use of plastic utensils are available for every order among others changes. With these smaller family owned restaurants we see a higher level of safety when running their day to day operations. They also expanded the way their customers can still enjoy the dishes they love without leaving the safety of their homes. They have expanded to the food app Grub Hub. This is a great way for the community to stay connected to the restaurant. -

In New York, USA, where the infection with the new coronavirus is spreading again, there is increasing attention to paid clinics among those who want to avoid the inspection line. Woman coming to the test: "I want to avoid the risk of waiting in line with many sick people. (The cost of a quick test) is very high, but everyone wants to know the results quickly and is smart. I think it's a good business.” As the infection of the new coronavirus continues to spread, in New York City, it may take several hours to wait outside for a free test, so people who want to avoid lines are paying more attention to paid clinics. In New York State, the number of newly infected people confirmed the day before was 8973 on the 2nd, the highest number since April 24th. Concerned about a further increase in infected people towards Christmas and the end of the year, Governor Cuomo is calling on many citizens to be tested again. With free tests in New York, the number can reach up to about 220,000 a day, and hospitals are packed with people. Video Translated by Youngbin Noh
