Minnesota Election Day
I had the privilege of documenting what I saw in Minnesota for @aclumn on Election Day. Going into the day I was prepared to see voter intimidation and long lines of frustrated voters, instead was met with celebratory and upbeat voters hosting cookouts and energized to cast their ballot. -

Opportunity for street art
The news story is both an interview with a street artist in New York and an exploration of how street art has taken off in New York as a result of the pandemic. The artist and the article report that many businesses have boarded up their windows and vacated, leaving a lot of unattended public space for artists to occupy, especially for illegal graffiti. Not everyone supports the increase in graffiti and street art, as other residents complain about the graffiti-related crime and vandalism. -

COVID Birthday
This is a photo of my sisters birthday party late last year. She is a nurse at St. Josephs Hospital and for the safety of her friends she decided that a Zoom birthday party would be best. At the time she was working in the ICU on the COVID unit; the heart of all the action. She has since been moved back to her normal position but for quiet a while she wasn't able to see or interact with anyone outside the hospital. Her birthday was fun and we got to see family that we hadn't seen in what seemed like years. It was also really fun teaching my older family members how to use Zoom. Putting filters and funny backgrounds was hilarious. It is definitely something I'll remember about living through this pandemic. -

Ain't No Party Like A Covid Party
We host an annual holiday party that we call 'The Cookie Party' because we have a contest where we decorate cookies, judge them, and declare a winner. We also do paper puzzles, a live gameshow, and have lots of food. Because of the pandemic, we had to shift our plans for the 25th anniversary of the party. For food, we delivered goodie bags filled with treats and safety gear. On the day of the party, we all met up on Zoom - we judged cookies via pictures, we sent games over email and graded them live, and we did the gameshow using games that could be played over computer. It was a long three hours and we were tired, but everyone had a good time. -

Naked Face
I started a new job in late June while much of the country was still on lockdown. Most of my coworkers were working remotely and those of us on-site strictly adhered to our face-covering policy. We slowly allowed staff, volunteers, and lastly, visitors on the property. A training program was developed for staff to guide visitor interaction, particularly concerning policy enforcement. In the photograph, Peter, our Artist-in-Residence is demonstrating a hand gesture we use when asking people to cover their face. There are multiple levels of strangeness associated with this photo, but the strangest of all is not knowing what my coworkers look like "naked," a term we appropriated to mean mask-less. -

College students having fun when the school were under lockdown
Colleges in China are under lockdown, no students can leave the campus unless with special circumstances or personal business. The Ha'erbin Province had its first snow in the winter, students were very excited that they can have snow fight had it brought some entertainment as they got limited entertainment on campus. Over 200 students and teachers came out and played together.
