2020-05-30COVID 19 EXPERIENCES
Okay, this whole coronavirus got me feeling both anxious and relaxed at the same time. I know it’s contradicting, but the reason I feel this way is because an immature part of me wishes this pandemic to reach something higher so it would give it that movie-style feel to it. Sort of in the way the movie “World War Z” depicted that a virus from China had gotten out of control and went to wipe out most of humanity by turning it into fast, zombie like things that only seeked to find an uninfected human to bite, and move on to the next. But then again, I come to my senses and realize that it’s not what I want; I don’t want the destruction of the world as I know it. And even though I know this pandemic won’t go to those great lengths, I just sort of want my “normal” life back, that is, back in school, back with my friends or whatever. On the other hand, I feel relaxed too, as the pressure of the monotonous school routine is not there anymore, I feel free. -

so the first few days were enjoyable because being at home and all day allowed for much more free time. however upon finding out people were not staying home and the amount of cases in the US jumped to #1 in the world 🤩 made me sad. this meme basically explains the disappointment i hold for americans not being able to quarantine. -

2020-05-31Coronary Diaries
My quarantine experience consists of online classes and assignments and I couldn't be more grateful. Online classes and assignments only take out a percentage of my day and after that I am free to do whatever I want. I'm grateful that all I have to do is homework because there are front line workers that are facing the very danger that has kept us inside. Their days are long and fearful while mine are in front of a screen. -
2020-05-04Mississippi Choctaw Tribe Sees Opportunities in Manufacturing in Response to Covid-19
“For many domestic companies, the coronavirus has exacerbated troubles they were already having manufacturing in China, after the U.S. levied large import tariffs last year on Chinese-made goods. The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians sees there might just be an opportunity for its industrial base in light of new developments. ‘While Mexico - the only low-cost border country with a free trade deal with the U.S. - is expected to be the big winner, our status as a sovereign nation located within the U.S. presents a distinct advantage,’ said John Hendrix, director of economic development for the Mississippi-based tribe. Tax rates, labor and logistics play major roles in determining where manufacturing occurs, remarked Hendrix. ‘The Tribe has the total package – favorable tax structure, an abundant trainable workforce, and proximity to market.’” -
2020-05-29When can I see you again?
It was back in February or March. I had told my friend, who was freaking out about COVID-19 coming to us here in Grove, that we'll be fine, that there is not anything to worry about. I mean China is so far away- but it came so fast. No one knew March 13, a Friday, would be our last time seeing each other for who knows how long. It has been more than 2 months now that no one has physically seen me except my family. Don't get me wrong though. I feel much less stress, I have a better sleep schedule (no more eye bags), and I have good relations with my family. Therefore, I can not say I want out because I hate being stuck here at home, but I want out because this is not how I want to live my life. But yet, there are those people out and about and who are so upset with this lockdown that they go out and protest to open America up again, that I have to continue living a life I rather not live. Someone like me, who is a daughter of an ER nurse working in the COVID-19 tents sometimes, stays home and follows the rule can get sick. Without even going out! So understand me if I am infuriated with people like them. I am only lucky that my dad can make it home safe and that he has not gotten sick either. I'm still young and I want to explore and hang out with my friends and laugh all day long and eat new foods. Summer is coming fast and then it'll be my senior year of highschool. I have had enough, but what can I change? Nothing really. But I guess for the time being, I will continue staying home, doing homework, watching anime, reading books, and playing games, hoping that I can go outside again and be free with friends and family. -
2020-03-21Quarantine Hobbies
This painting on a polaroid was made on March 21st, it was the first time in awhile that I had finally gotten some free time. I had always had a passion for artsy activities although I was never good at them. I looked around my desk and found a ruined polaroid laying around so I thought I’d turn it into something pretty. When quarantined, I had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do when I got the chance to be out in the world freely again. I had wanted to see the cherry blossoms and maybe one day rack up enough money to travel to Japan and experience that. But with a lot of time on my hands and my sudden interest to paint at 10 at night, I grabbed my paint and brushed and started to paint the things I loved. This COVID-19 experience has opened my eyes to the goals I want to achieve as well as hobbies I want to experience, but of course I miss what I had before this pandemic, which is my friends and fresh air. -

2020-05-22My Family's Masks
Here are all the masks my family of four has. In the little jar to the left there are about four or five masks. We got almost all of them for free, except for four that I got from my friend who is using his dad's factory to make them. The company is called Jeffery Press. My friends' masks are called Face Armour. To be honest the price is a little high but that's just business. The painting masks on the left are from probably ten or eleven years ago when my dad redid the upstairs. The rest of the masks were gifts from my mom's cousin's wife who is a fashion designer for kids. The surgical mask was a graduation gift from my great aunt and uncle. -

03/19/2020Covid-19 in the Coachella Valley
Here in this picture we can see away to prevent getting near the bus driver by adding caution tape in the middle. Also it was Free for everyone and you could not enter unless you have a mask on. The bus was my daily ride to everywhere I went because I did not have a car. When the Covid-19 started i was afraid they were gonna close down the bus, but they did not. They tried their best for them to be on service because many of the citizens need the bus as a way to travel to work. Not only that, but during that time of the picture everything changed for me. First, all of my classes turned online which was kind of good, but at the same time I missed going to class every Monday to wednesday. Also i lost my job as many people did, but in my citation is that the job was at the street fair and they told me they might even open until next year. All of this has taught me a lesson which is to always be prepared for these situations because one day I can be working, but then out of nowhere I don't have it anymore. Gladly i saved money to pay what i need to pay. Also I've been going hiking and trying to do more exercise at my house. At the end of the day we all need to be patient because great things can happen to us. *This is a picture of how they use caution tape on the bus to prevent anyone to get near the bus driver. -

05/18/2020Oklahoma Rural Schools Publish Newspaper to Creatively Reach Students Through Distance Learning Requirements
The Oklahoma public schools in Dibble, Washington, and Lexington published five weekly newspapers that offered lessons for Pre-K through 12th grade students. This collaborative effort was organized by the three school district to offer distance learning while overcoming the lack of internet access to rural students. These papers were delivered for free to every student in each of the three school districts. Oklahoma public schools were ordered closed by Governor Stitt beginning March 25th and remained closed through the end of the school year. Dibble teacher Kelly McDaniel, a weekly contributor to the 2nd grade math and science section of the paper, provided the examples for the photograph. *Original text in "Creator" and "Contributor:" Clinton P. 2020-03-29Pandemic Monopoly
HUM402 The image depicts the creation of Pandemic Monopoly by a Hobart resident. The homemade board game uses toilet paper as currency, referring to the toilet paper shortage seen across Tasmanian supermarkets. The board game presents players with the opportunity to 'own' key Hobart locations. However, instead of mortgage, houses and hotels, the game allows players to buy hospitals and clinics to place on the properties. Centrelink, the Australian governments social security service, features heavily on the board game, indicating the rise in unemployment due to the pandemic. Whilst being used for comical purposes, the game also critiques the Tasmanian governments early handling of Covid-19 crisis via a chance card, which states "You have a fever, dry cough and Pneumonia to boot but despite having all of the symptoms, you haven't knowingly come into contact with a known carried so they won't test you for Covid-19. The Royal Hobart Hospital sends you home. Get out of iso [isolation] free." This refers to the Tasmanian government in early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic refusing to test individuals who had not been in contact with a known case, or had not left the country. -

2020-05-01Quarantine Struggles
Today I did my usual routine: I stretched, ate breakfast, did my school for the day, worked out, read my book, played with my sister, relaxed, and ate dinner. For my relaxation today I just watched YouTube and my favorite show to watch with my mom, Flea Market Flip. There are also a lot of free movies and shows because of quarantine. I have been trying to make my routine the same things, but different things each time. For example, I will still run every day, but changed my speeds and rest. I am also trying to find time to do those things that I have always wanted to do. For example, I am overseeing planning my little sister’s 5th birthday party. I will be able to get out of the house and go to a store, this time Walmart, for the first time in over a month. I am super excited to plan games and crafts for the whole family to do because my sister cannot invite her friends from preschool. *Original text in "Creator:" Nicole Dumitrascu #LSMS #NSD -
2020-04-05Steak, Discounts, and Toilet Paper
This particular restaurant on Maize Road in Wichita, Kansas, demonstrates the various strategies businesses employed to remain viable as COVID-19's easy transmission forced many restaurants to close their dine-in rooms and switch to online, carry-out, and delivery services. Along with the 15% discount for online ordering, this restaurant added the rather interesting incentive of a free roll of toilet paper for each order, thereby highlighting the acute hygiene product shortage that emptied store shelves across the United States in the wake of the virus-inspired "panic buying" that gripped the country. 05/12/2020Increased Traffic on Online Gaming Servers: League of Legends
The image is a permanent message posted on the game client of League of Legends since the quarantine began. As more people are spending time at home, the online gaming servers of League of Legends are being overburdened because too many people are accessing the game at the same time. This leads to game lag and increased strain on the internet service providers. This seems to be a direct effect of the Covid-19 outbreak since more people have free time, why not make time move faster by playing video games. I am certain there is increased traffic with all video games, online or offline, because video games are a popular source of home entertainment in today's world. Riot Games created the image. They are the company responsible for creating the game League of Legends. -

I’m going to share some posts from Chinese social media about the virus. Those two weeks, China holds an online concert, “Believe in the Future,” steaming on the social media. It is the largest online concert in the Chinese music industry. The concert invited more than hundreds of celebrities to do cloud performance. The goal of the concert is to bring hope and heal the heart. There is no advertising and no copyright, all things free. Journal entry 5/4/2020
taken from journal entry: Today I woke up around 1 pm without an actual schedule to follow it feels like i have no routine.I have been falling asleep around 3 am and waking up very late. Never thought i would say this but i miss going to school and having busy days and crowded commutes. Things i would complain about i now yearn for. I went to Walmart today and looking around at everyone with their masks and gloves, i never thought id ever see anything like this. my trip to the grocery has now become one of the most exciting parts of the day. Going out now is such a hassle we put on masks and gloves and coming back we take everything off immediately and take a shower. All the groceries we brought back my mom will thoroughly wash and throw away original packaging. Later i went for a run in rock creek, there were quite a lot of people there but everyone maintains distance and has their masks on. At night i did a lot of online work i had. without going to class i barely have any motivation to do it. in one of my classes i had a 100% now i have dropped down to a 70%. Good thing we have the pass/fail option at my university, thats the only thing saving me right now. Then i stayed up with my dad binge watching series on netflix until about 2:30 am. i really hope we go back to normal, i miss seeing my friends, my girlfriend, going out to eat or to the movies. My best hope right now is that we go back to classes when the fall semester begins. -

A local pizza place called Rosatis Pizza has begun to give out a free roll of toliet paper for every order. When my family ordered dinner from there we had no idea they were doing this. It is weird to think about how just a few months ago if a pizza place gave out a roll of toliet paper it would have been very strange, but now in the current environment created by the pandemic it is a thoughtful and appreciated gesture. It shows how values have changed during the pandemic and the importance of still trying to support local businesses as best as we can, and in return the businesses are doing what they can to show their appreciate for consumer support during the pandemic. -
