During one of the press conferences a player named Rudy Gobert decided to touch all the microphones in the press room after speaking with reporters, within days the world learned that he had contracted Covid-19 and the sports world began shutting down all sports, including NCAA tournament and all sports around the world. Gobert was one of the first celebrities to contract COVID-19.

  Pandemic Poetry

  When I read this poem by Don Arbor called “For Better or Worse”, I instantly felt connected because we all are facing the same problems throughout this pandemic. We feel the need to stay home and stay away from others but are able to still virtually be there for one another. We might not be able to experience life in the same aspect as we use to, but we have to expect for better days to come. One thing that stuck out was how he was still able to appreciate what he has in this exact moment instead of being negative. He states that he is grateful and lucky, but he will never be able to forget something so disheartening. In the fourth stanza all the way to the end, he starts to get into politics and describes how things were a few yeas ago when Obama was president. Don Arbor discusses how Obama cared about the American people just as much as he cared about himself. He was willing to stick to his morals and be active within the government compared to what is happening right now. Don believes that most individuals feel how he is feeling and that the possibility of better days are yet to come.

  Local tavern owner sparks a rebellion against Covid-19 restrictions in PA.

  This is a story of a local restaurant owner who decided he wanted to fight back against "oppressive" rules and regulations that were put in place for restaurants and bars. Previously, they had started to reopen places to eat and get drinks, and then over the Fourth of July weekend in Pittsburgh, after seeing a sharp spike in case number the week prior, the city installed even harsher rules for restaurants and bars to follow. Many didn't like this, and they surely weren't going to follow the rules until they started to be closed down left and right by the health department, then suddenly everyone shaped up.

  Worrying for future scholarships

  I'm worried about applying for a future scholarship called the MEXT scholarship because supposedly international students are still not allowed to enter Japan. While this will likely change, I'm fearful that due to many governments around the world losing tax revenue due to the pandemic, that they'll will cut extraneous programs such as the MEXT scholarship. The pandemic prevented people taking the JLPT language assessment last July as well. That makes it harder to get certifications to help boost my current resume. They say that there will be a test date in December, but like many events during the pandemic, it's up in the air.

  LitCovid- open access database to new and peer reviewed literature

  LitCovid is a website created by the NIH to provide free access to all academic papers and studies published to PubMed about COVID-19. The database makes it easy to search for specific types of studies, and is broken down into different categories (such as mechanism, transmission, prevention, and forecasting). It is quite jargon-heavy since it is a collection of academic papers, but can be really useful for learning more about the disease.

  COVID-19 Emergency Toolkit and Coloring Book by New Mexico Native Cartoonist Ricardo Cate and Dose of Reality NM

  New Mexico Native cartoonist Ricardo Cate teamed up with Dose of Reality New Mexico to address the COVID-19 virus in Native communities. The website promotes proper COVID-19 practices and is targeted for the Native American population. The webpage includes short videos, articles, resources, and podcasts that focus on combating COVID-19. For this project Cate created a coloring book based off his cartoon Without Reservations. The cartoon-based coloring book looks at the pandemic in a humorous and cultural manner. The coloring book is printable, and a printed version has also been distributed throughout Native communities.   Mask situation in Japan

  Like other countries, Japanese people were hoarding masks during March. In June, Uniqulo made a mask using their technology “Airism”. Airism is a popular technology which allows less humidity and dries sweat fast and is very smooth to skin. The Airism mask has three layers, with the outside with UV cut layer, the middle with the filter layer, and inside with Airism layer. When this mask came out, a lot of people waited in line and crowded a lot of stores around Japan. This caused clusters and became news. The mask sold out very quickly and was only limited to one set per person. One set included one small mask for kids, one medium size for women, and one large size for men. They had only one color, which was white, but they now have gray. Recently all stores in Japan have masks, but all of the stocks are from China.   San Francisco Public Library COVID-19 Community Time Capsule

  The San Francisco History Center of the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) is actively archiving all types of materials, in multiple formats, to build a collection that documents and preserves the collective experiences of San Francisco residents during the COVID-19 public health emergency. They are interested in what is happening to San Francisco residents, neighborhoods, schools and workplaces. They are asking local residents to put on their archives hats and help capture what is different in our world today, what we miss, what we’ve created to reflect our new reality, and how we are communicating and living now. With your help, SFPL will build a collection that reflects the many ways San Franciscans were impacted by, and responded to, this public health crisis. All submissions will be preserved in the COVID-19 Community Time Capsule at SFPL and be shared with the public, as well as remain in the City and County Archives of San Francisco (part of the San Francisco History Center), for long term preservation. If you are interested in sharing digital content, please use our online submission form below. Digital content will ultimately be available through our online collection platforms and social media accounts.   Camp Evolution

  In high school, I worked for South Windsor Parks and Recreation as a program leader for the before and after school program, as well as a camp counselor during the summers. On March 12, 2020, Governor Ned Lamont announced that schools will be closed beginning that Monday, March 16, for at least two weeks due to COVID-19. This included my program, putting me and all of my coworkers out of a job during this time (and, eventually, the rest of the school year), and taking away the childcare that so many South Windsor families depended on, including my own. I was a senior in high school when this happened, trying to work as much as possible to save up for college. My department was working hard to create an alternative within our state's guidelines to remain open and operating without compromising the safety of our employees and families. Unfortunately, COVID-19 was too unpredictable at the time and we had no idea how to protect everyone other than shutting down completely. For months, my coworkers and I heard nothing from our supervisors, as they had no new information to give us. On May 22, 2020, we were sent this flyer with information about a modified summer camp for 2020, called "Camp Evolution," with guidelines covering group sizes, social distancing expectations, and mask mandates. Many former counselors made the decision to not return for camp, including myself, as I lived with my grandparents at the time who, in addition to being in their 80s, also had preexisting conditions. I also know of many program leaders who will not be returning to our before and after school program due to similar concerns. The camps and programs have also been finding themselves short on participants, as most families in South Windsor are concerned about the virus, and many are currently working from home, so they no longer require the same childcare as before. For many families with parents who are not able to work remotely, such as my own, are thankful for these program reopenings, as well as the smaller group numbers that come with them. I am proud of my department for working so hard to keep their employees and families safe while also continuing to provide services for those most in need.

  Toilet Paper

  Although this pile of toilet paper may seem insignificant to most, it actually represents a time of struggle and perseverance. During the pandemic, some household necessities become scarce such as hand soap, hand sanitizer, and most importantly toilet paper. "The great shortage of toilet paper" was a common joke used during the early days of the virus. I think it represents the lack of materials and resources that we had during this pandemic.

  Divide in social interaction

  This photo speaks a lot about the current pandemic that is rapidly spreading among the world. I chose this photo because it represents how much we have taken seeing our loved ones and friends everyday to totally not seeing them at all in an instant. This photo I personally can relate to in a way. While I have been fortunate to not have any family members contract this virus, I still was not able to see any family or friends for months! This photo speaks for the pandemic because so many people are stuck in hospitals and they aren’t allowed any visitors. I feel we have all taken life a little bit for granted before this pandemic came along, but I also feel we have all learned more about our selves, lessons about life, and to always cherish time with family and friends because you never know what could happen.

  Artists around the world have faced insurmountable challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. San Francisco Bay Area artists are turning public spaces into canvases to inspire hope. In the turbulence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Paint the Void emerged. This organization's mission is "to match local artists with boarded up businesses to create murals as a response to the void left behind in the wake of COVID-19." The group is raising money to grant artists stipends "for their hard work as guardians of hope and beauty in these unprecedented times." To date, the organization has helped 91 local artists create 100 murals across 84 storefront in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  COVID Share Your Story #RITtigers #6, Business Management Major's Point of view

  Because I am a freshman it has not impacted it too much. I was in the 2017 California Thomas Fires and it was a similar experience in terms of education. However, my friend and I are setting up a website (www.communitybonds.us) where brick and mortar businesses who need cash now can sell "bonds". A "bond" is essentially a discounted gift card. Example: You can buy a $100 "bond" to your favorite restaurant for $75 now. The restaurant gets the cash they need now, and you can redeem your bond for its full value in services when they reopen. If we can even make one business owner sleep jut a bit better at night we've done our job. We aren't taking a fee or a cut we just want to help. We hope to be launching in a couple of days but our landing page is up right now. If I could give a message to myself at the start of this semester, what would I say? Be prepared.
