This news article chronicles the effort to bring home Canadians abroad in the face of the pandemic and tells the stories of a few individuals who returned home. Prime Minister Just Trudeau, speaking on behalf of the government, suggested any Canadians abroad who wished to come home at the beginning of the pandemic should attempt to do so by March 23 and the government organized flights to get those in countries no longer serviced by regular commercial flights or negotiated with governments under lock down to allow Canadians out.

I was working as a dancer on the Cruise Ship MS Zaandam when the Covid-19 Pandemic hit. Countries began to close their borders and passengers and crew began presenting with flu-like symptoms. The entire ship went into lockdown to prevent the spread of this illness which was later confirmed to be Covid-19. We were denied entry to Chile, Peru and the Panama Canal. At this time we had 4 deaths onboard. The MS Rotterdam came to our aid with medical staff, test kits and supplies. Eventually we were granted entry through the Panama Canal to disembark passengers and sick crew in Florida. The ship then left port and sailed to the Bahamas were all crew had to undergo a 14 day CDC ordered quarantine.
Repatriation plans were made and I was transferred to the Nieuw Statendam and sailed across the Atlantic to disembark in Rotterdam on May 13th. This ended up being a total of 60 days stranded at sea. After flying home to Perth I faced another 14 days away from family in mandatory Hotel Isolation . We were delivered meals 3 times a day that came in paper bags and other biodegradable containers. I wanted to do something creative and a little bit quirky to pass the time. This packaging became my inspiration to create a range of outfits constructed from these recycled materials. I posted a video of these creations and it went viral on Facebook. I have kept these costumes as memorabilia.

Developing 'a new normal' and allowing for the fresh summer produce so many want, the local farmer's market reopens using technology to reduce contact. However, when discussing this around the kitchen table, it was pointed out this does not fill the desire to pick the specific produce you want from a bunch spread out in front of you; it allows the vendors to decide which apples or lettuce you get regardless of its quality.

It's currently June 2nd, 2020. I'm sitting in my room at 2:47am thinking about how the world is slowly falling apart. I didn't know that Friday would be my last day in school, my last day in those hallways rushing up the stairs to Chemistry for the final period of the day. I didn't think it would be the last time I spoke to my friends and teachers face to face. Every day is a new problem, right now there are protests all over the world following the black lives matter movement. Cops are out of control, abusing their power and killing innocent people. Stores and homes are being looted and burned down. I've been watching the news and our "president" has ordered the military to open fire if they start looting. It would seem the world is falling apart as I sit at home. The pandemic may have helped our environment but it shows that our kind is ruthless. They can't stay at home and have to protest the virus. I sometimes wonder what they think they are doing, you can't protest a virus. Stay home, you are the reason the cases keep going up. The racism and abuse of power taken on by the cops who are meant to protect us has got out of control and everything is being publicized. I wish it would stop. It's important that I got this off my mind because our children and grandchildren are going to learn about this. It's important they know how terrible our president was during this time and how stupid people can be. They should know that millions violated the stay at home order and caused our cases to rise. They should know that while everyone was at home, police were outside giving masks to WHITE people in Central Park while beating up minorities in lower income area because they didn't have a mask or weren't social distancing. They should know how terrible America really is.

I found that during the pandemic, all the e-commerce sites or APPs in China have launched their special theme about fighting against the coronavirus. In this special theme, they would display various kinds of products, like masks, liquid soap, hand sanitizer, disposable gloves and so forth. Since Chinese people were required not to go out at that time, some e-commerce APPs also have promotions about toilet papers, about fast noodles and so forth. They were very sensitive and seized the opportunities to develop their businesses.

First birthdays are an important part of a child's life. However, due to the precautionary measure Illinois has taken, my niece was forced to celebrate hers in an unlikely fashion. My entire family logged on a video conferencing app at the same time to wish her a Happy Birthday. On the same day, we threw her a birthday parade by honking our cars and playing cheery music down her street. Under different circumstances, we would be meeting altogether in a grand hall with gifts and food. This birthday will surely be memorable.

When quarantining started, I had mixed feelings about not attending school or work, not seeing my small circle of friends, and not getting to take mini explorations out in the city.
I'm an introvert who dies to get out of the house. The house I've lived in for my entire life has brimmed with tension and toxicity in recent years. Outside is where I've found my peace and my place in the world.
School is my space to grow as an artist, to tap into my capabilities, and to be - or at least find - myself. My job is my step into independence and my career as a filmmaker. My friends are my soul connections, they breathe life into me with their jokes and smiles. My lone adventures around New York City remind me that the world is enormous, full of energy and life, and I can end up wherever I choose.
These elements of my life give me the confidence and hope I need for the future. I appreciate these moments dearly.
This short film speaks to all of that.

I have submitted 3 memes which highlight people's reaction to the pandemic. One of the memes shows what everyone expected from 2020 vs what they got which was police guarding toilet paper against people who were scared and started hoarding it. The second meme shows Darth Vader as the good guy as he is wearing a mask and listening to orders. This shows the redefinition of good vs bad citizen. The third meme shows the anxiety of people who are unable to pay rent and collecting more and more debt. With the government stimuli being too little to actually help, and the worst unemployment in history, people are feel attacked as shown in the meme.

COVID-19 has definitely altered my daily life. I am having a hard time adjusting to online school. I have never been good at managing my time, but now it is crucial that I learn. Now that I am no longer attending school physically, I watch my siblings everyday. As a result, I have fallen behind in several of my classes, including this one. It upsets me that every teacher assigns about 2-3 things everyday. Despite the fact that I do not learn anything from it, I feel extremely overwhelmed- especially with AVID! AVID still expects us to turn in binder checks every week and do tutorials. To me, it seems inconsiderate to ask for so much since we are still trying to adapt to our normal classes let alone our elective. I would appreciate it if they were to start assigning things little by little instead of ambushing us with so much work because COVID-19 has impacted the roles we play in our family. A lot of us have to watch our younger siblings and take care of our homes, which are both time consuming. I do not seek pity I just want to teachers to be more flexible and understanding. I also hate the fact that AP exams were online this year. I hate that a couple of FRQs determined whether or not I would receive college credit. I feel like I did well in APUSH, but I am not as confident with HUG. I would be lucky if I passed. I do not think a couple of FRQs can accurately reflect a years worth of knowledge. APHUG was one of the best and most interesting classes I have taken at GGHS, but I am afraid my FRQs were not enough to even earn me a 3 because I am not stong in writing. I was hoping that I could prove myself through other parts of the test such as MC, but obviously I could not. I also do not think its fair that some students got easier prompts.

When the stay at home order was called in California, our Brownie Troop was planning for an overnight experience that weekend that had to be cancelled. Then our local Girl Scout council announced the closure of all activities through the rest of March. As the weeks progressed and it became clear all of planned activities would be postponed, we switched to a virtual platform as an experiment. During our first meeting, we just played games over Zoom, because we weren't sure how valuable and fun it would be virtually, but were pleasantly surprised how much the girls liked it. Over Mother's Day weekend, we held a virtual meeting where we had the girls make a COVID-19 virtual capsule, as well as make a Mother's Day craft for an important woman in their lives. We dropped off the supplies to each girls' house (no contact) and facilitated making the craft over zoom.

The day of the AP exam is usually a huge celebration, where I decorate the room for a giant pre-party, with every kids' name on the wall, cupcakes, brownies, balloons, confetti - the works. It is always a surprise for them - then we take a picture in our matching t-shirts, they go test, and afterwards (around lunch), they come back and we have a post party. This year, this could not happen. I made each of my 175 students a TikTok, and then we had a zoom after the test. The celebration is usually one of my favorite days of the year, as it is so important to me to celebrate my kids' achievement, regardless of what the score says in July. It feels so empty not having that moment together.

Very relatable meme. As a fellow college student, I have just been sitting around my house in pajamas. I have been eating a ton of popcorn and ramen. I drink alcohol with my roommate to try and avoid boredom. I find the news so overwhelming, scary and depressing so I've hidden the news app and Twitter on my phone so I'm not tempted to look at those and make myself feel worse. I stream shows and use social media to distract myself.
The meme also shows the experience of a group that was hit very hard; the college students. As a senior, I had so much taken from me and I am being forced to move home instead of pursuing my post-grad plans. Me and my friends got no closure for college and didn't get to say goodbye to each other. We didn't get graduation, or many of the senior sendoff plans that many of us had in our campus organizations. The students in years below me have to worry about school being online next year and housing problems/work issues that might accompany that.

Trigger warning: abortion
The pandemic had abruptly changed university. The Spring quarter was completely switched to online courses and student activities on campus were canceled. For the entirety of the quarter and to this day, I'm living with my partner until the quarantine is over. It was hard adjusting to online classes and I had to force myself to keep up with lectures and assignments. Deciding to take 20+ units during these times wasn't a smart idea, but I'm glad to say that I'm doing a pretty decent job at holding up. Finals are around the corner and there's one more week of lecture to persevere through. Yet, despite doing well in school, I'm struggling to cope with recent events. This school year has been bittersweet. It's my 4th year of undergrad and the most memorable year of my life, so having it come to a sudden halt has been tough. Zooming friends and chatting online isn't the same as in-person meetings. However, so many college students are facing similar struggles and I commend them for staying at home and practicing social distancing rules.
(haha...sorry I got a little carried away with background information.)
My experience with abortion during this pandemic isn't something I have fully comprehended yet. It was midway into the quarter and right before midterms when I found out I was pregnant. Seeing the positive pregnancy test in the restroom, I just burst into tears. I knew I couldn't take care of the baby properly, and the mental turmoil of the whole circumstance really, to this day, has effected me. I called Planned Parenthood and scheduled an appointment for the closest opening, a few days after finding out. Those few days waiting were hell, I couldn't sleep and my mind was filled with dread. But, the hardest day and the hardest moment was realizing at Planned Parenthood that I had to go in alone...without my partner and without my mom. The clinic had to make precautions considering the pandemic and guests were not allowed to be there for emotional support. So, I carried forth with the termination and took the pills. The doctor and nurse were in the room, but they were standing at a distance...and everything felt distant. I had my phone to call my support system, but at that moment, I just needed a hand to hold.

For complete context, I am a white 8th grader at an exceptional private school who lives in the bay area and is very privileged. Today I will be talking about hat quarantine has been like for me. At the start, I was happy at thought of maybe a few weeks off school because of some flu but then it became serious and school was canceled for the entire year. as the days went on I started a routine. online school from 9 to 2 (with lunch in between of course) then exercise outside for an hour (pretty much just walked my dog most of the time), then play video games for most of the remaining day. video games were the only way I made contact for most of the quarantine with my friends. my favorite games to play during quarantine was 2k and COD but mostly COD. Anyways that has been my life for the last few months and it has not been half bad. Besides the fact I couldn't go out or see any of my friend's quarantine was kinda nice. But after a while, people started getting tired of quarantine and started to see their friends again. It started with most girls who were craving social interaction and then eventually after a few weeks spread to the boys. another thing about quarantine was I was on my phone a lot. I averaged around 7 hours a day of screen time which included binging of Netflix shows, viewing of plenty TikTok, and sending lots of snaps. Some shows I have watched over qaurantine are tiger king, money hiest, community, all american, space force, etc.. also, another thing if this matters to you are my political beliefs. I am liberal and I think trump is an awful president and person (excuse my language). Anyways quarantine hasn't been too exciting and it has been kinda boring. also, the protest in the name of George Floyd and I do not support the violent protests but I truly believe In the cause that they are supporting and I think we shouldn't have to live in a racist world. If I am being honest I would actually like to go to a protest but my parent probably won't let me because its "dangerous" or something along those lines. Anyway, that has been my take on my quarantine and I hope whoever you are that is reading this that you are living in a better world with a better government right now. Thanks for your time.
-please excuse my awful grammar

Staying at home locked up is very odd. It takes a toll on your mental health because you are not able to see your friends or anyone outside your immediate family. It is hard to connect with others and you will see the other side of most people's personalities. Letting yourself be who you are is very important. Taking time to do what you love (if possible) is a great way to let out steam. Workouts and staying fit as well as movies and video games are good ways to spend time. The pandemic of 2020 will always be remembered, likely not fondly.
