On May 7th, Rolling Stone writer Rob Sheffield published a piece reminiscing on the time when it was okay to go to live music events. A section of the piece details Sheffield's last show before quarantine -- Control Top at Union Pool in Brooklyn. It was interesting to hear how much he enjoyed the show, since the company I work for worked really hard to book and promote it. I tweeted about the article from the company account and received very kind words back from Sheffield.

"Like all fans of music, sports, movies, any kind of public ritual that involves a crowd, I keep thinking about the Last Time. For me, that was seeing the Philly punk trio Control Top on March 5th, at Union Pool in Brooklyn. The singer jumped into the crowd and tackled one of her friends. (The friend was the singer from Yohuna, whom I had tickets to see a few weeks later at Trans-Pecos.) They rolled on the floor, screaming into the mic together. I grabbed a snack at the taco truck between bands, wrote in my notebook for a while, hung out late to see friends and argue with the guitarist about the Hüsker Dü discography. I asked the singer about my favorite song, the one where I always think she’s screaming about strange chickens. (It’s really “Straight Jackets.”) It was a glorious Thursday night. But now it feels like a different planet."

Top 20 Good Things about Covid-19:
1. Peace and quiet
2. Much less traffic
3. Pollution is way down
4. Gas companies are upset
5. Spoiled children are depressed
6. Republican suicide-by-liberation is a thing
7. The vast majority of jobs are inessential
8. No professional sports, AKA stupid distractions
9. Familial bond forging
10. My alcoholic neighbors don't warm up their two cars - a giant, rumbling Ford F150 and a two door Mini Cooper with a modified (AKA much louder) muffler - right outside my bedroom window for 20 minutes at 6:30AM every weekday morning
11. Mother Nature won't go down without a fight
12. Rich people forced to pay poor people
13. The airline industry, a wasteful and destructive industry that pollutes like crazy, is suffering
14. Cruise ships, modern monstrosities of disgusting opulence that helped the virus spread, are also hurting
15. Real leaders have distinguished themselves
16. The quality of art is directly proportional to the suffering of the artist
17. No mass shootings
18. Sales of bidets way up
19. "light and heat" might kill the virus. Or maybe injections of bleach? Trump wants to look into those ideas, as they come from a mind whose uncle taught at MIT. So, y'know, he just innately understands complex doctor knowledge. Comforting!
20. No need to make up excuses for not visiting grandparents

The image is of a scarf I’m knitting, where each morning I knit two rows for one year using yarn that matches the color of the sky. The project came from a book called “Knit the Sky, “ by Lea Redmond.
At the time I started, March 16, no one knew that the Covid19 pandemic would cloister us away from everyone for what looks like could be a long time— by the time I finish, I’ll have something that marks the year— and gives structure to the start of each day. I’ve added clear beads and grey yarn to mark days it rained—and white yarn with “bobble stitches” when it snows! The grey and blue and white strands capture the days of the pandemic.

With the rest of the school year canceled at Sacramento’s McClatchy High School, the school staff is making sure that the class of 2020 doesn’t leave without fanfare. Students drove slowly through William Land Park, cars decorated and horns honking, as staff members dressed in the school’s red and white attire cheered and handed out signs for students to display in front of their homes.
“These kids aren’t getting a ceremony, so we wanted to make sure we still celebrated them somehow. And it’s a chance for us to say goodbye since we won’t see them again at school. It’s so heartbreaking,” said a teacher.

When visiting my mother this weekend, we decided to take a trip to the gas station to get some drinks. My mom is immunocompromised and takes Covid-19 very seriously. She said if I planned on going into the convenience store I had to wear a mask.
She keeps masks like this in the glove box as well as hand sanitizer in her car. She puts on the mask and sanitizer before she enters the store, and puts sanitizer on again when she returns home, before she goes inside.

I’m a study-abroad student. Due to the virus, I had to stay at my home in New York. I got the update of the virus through Chinese social media, and I think it is really interesting. I’m going to share some posts from Chinese social media about the virus.
The post is about that one of the temporary hospitals is going to close, which means the hope is coming. Through the post, I feel the persistence of those front line fighters. There are plenty of touching stories in the post. One of them brings his daughter's doll to the front line. They are also others' wives, husbands, mothers, children. These medical staff came to the frontline at the risk of infection, and their families were also worried, proud, and worried about them from afar.

I first heard about Coronavirus during my spring break freshman year of college. I didn't think anything of it and definitely did not predict how the rest of the semester would go. I was talking about it with one my friends from back home in Scottsdale and heard that her university had cancelled in-person classes and was transitioning to online for the rest of the semester. This was extremely shocking to me, and I couldn't even fathom staying home past spring break, let alone the rest of the school year.
A couple days later, my college, the University of Arizona, did the same. We had a couple days after spring break with no classes for the university to make the transition to online classes. After that, it was time for online learning. These times were extremely unpredictable, and no one knew what was coming next. No one, especially I, never thought that we would have to move out of the dorms and finish the rest of the semester completely online. That was what came next.
I was devastated. I mean, I would be missing out on my first-year college experience that I would never be able to make up. I would lose my complete freedom. I would lose the ability to make new friends. I would lose the ability to spend time with the friends I had already made. I was so upset, and at the same time I had to adapt to this new normal. It was definitely not easy.
My friends and I set up a date that we would come back to campus to hang out one last time and move out. This day was so depressing, but we tried to make the most of it. Pictured is us on that day. From left to right, Val, Anna, me, and Kiera. I miss them so much right now.
I'm writing this at the end of the semester, just having finished the majority of my finals. And I was right, this semester was definitely not easy. I faced an extreme lack of motivation and depression topped by loads of assignments to complete. But what I can say is that while quarantine is still not over and probably will not be over for a while, I'm proud to have finished the school year remotely. I had to adapt to such a unique situation, and I did. I'm sure this story is similar to many college students out there, but I'm glad I was able to share mine, and I hope to look back on this in the future.

A small church responds quickly to the threat of large gatherings. Despite not having a standing audio/visual team, a pastor quickly mobilizes volunteers to get church services online for parishioners while the production team observes social distance protocols. As a consequence, on the same day that the Los Angeles mayor announcing as ban of gatherings, the church posts its first online worship service.
