This is a picture of me boiling our face masks after they have been worn. We boil them for 10 minutes after every time they have been worn then hang them up to dry. Every member of the household has three masks so there are always dry ones. We call the process of boiling them making Face Soup and joke that if we run out of food we can always make a broth out of it. Our statue of the Food-a looks on with a Zen like patience.

A local pizza place called Rosatis Pizza has begun to give out a free roll of toliet paper for every order. When my family ordered dinner from there we had no idea they were doing this. It is weird to think about how just a few months ago if a pizza place gave out a roll of toliet paper it would have been very strange, but now in the current environment created by the pandemic it is a thoughtful and appreciated gesture. It shows how values have changed during the pandemic and the importance of still trying to support local businesses as best as we can, and in return the businesses are doing what they can to show their appreciate for consumer support during the pandemic.

People stocked up at the grocery store when the pandemic started so it became harder for people to buy certain items. With the lack of masks being sold in and through stores, people have now been making small businesses of their own by sewing and making them. People have gotten really creative with their masks lately. I've seen bandanas, scarves, and oddly enough plastic shields over their faces. Currently, our local Walmart is being cleaned out of all its fabric. Last time I checked it was pretty much empty. People are taking orders for others and selling homemade masks. I have 3 co-workers who sell them, one even sells ones with sports team patterns. I just bought a patriots one for my grandma. I just never thought about people making a living off of masks, its a good time for people to learn how to sew if anything.

Since self-isolation began for my household, my husband and I have started doing crosswords from the NYT (New York Times) with friends via Zoom. We can share our screens and complete the puzzles together. It has been good way to exercise our brains and connect with others. I'd be curious to see if subscriptions for the NYT Crossword, which has its own separate subscription option, have increased in the last few weeks.

This image was taken by me on one if my walks around a local park. I have been going to this park since I was three years old. Ever since the stay-at-home order was give for NC at the end of March I have noticed a much greater diversity in the demographics of people who visit the park.Traditionally the park would be populated by younger children, around elementary and middle school aged, along with young parents and their children. Now people of all types and ages frequent the park in an attempt to help normalize and adjust the the changes caused by the pandemic. Something I never expected to enjoy while going to the park is being able to see so many different people playing happily and making the best of the situation. Seeing others adjusting to the pandemic, in a way helps me accept the normalization of the changing social dynamics that have been created.

The woman in the picture who seems to be a health care worker who is also a mother is crying as she is torn away from beating able to hug and kiss her child because of the possibility of being infected after working in the hospital with coronavirus patients. This picture is especially special because it touches upon the hardships that health care workers are facing after working with patients all-day and not being able to have that relief of coming home and being comforted by their family members. This post was also made right before mother's day.

I was down to my last roll of toilet paper. I had ordered more but knew it may not come for another two weeks... something had to be done. First I went to Fry's… No toilet paper, Then Safeway and Target...no toilet paper. I had almost been defeated but decided to try out Walmart. As I was walking in I saw about five police cruisers parked in front of the store. As I approach the toilet paper aisle I am greeted by an officer telling me to wait in line if I wanted toilet paper. After a short wait I make out with a 24 pack. #REL101

The awakening of the collective; mind, body, soul and the beginning of the end of industrial society - a New World Order
I was living and working casually at a children's outdoor education centre one day I was sitting on my sofa the next I was on the street.
Week 1 - all casuals laid off
Week 2 - All full-time staff cut back to half hours
Week 3 - all staff living on centre given eviction within 72 hours
Week 4 - homelessness and couch surfing
Week 5 - Self Isolation & Family
Week 6 - Family Feuds & Domestic Violence
Week 7 - A run in with Police whilst living out of my Car
Week 8 - My own place new beginnings
Although life has thrown many curveballs I struggle with mental illness and addiction - now the world knows how it is to feel in social isolation - depressed, alone, unmotivated, unwanted, uninspired and ironically for those of us who have lived with mental illness our entire lives are no longer alone in our suffering.
I shaved my head to symbolise being reborn into a new world order - one of hope, health, compassion and understanding with the soul & spirit being central to our livelihood.

In an alternate universe, this week would probably be a lot more different. Prior to this whole COVID-19 thing, I was planning to study abroad with my school to Italy. I planned this as far back as fall of last year, and I was getting pretty excited. I was unsure I would even be able to go at first, but my mom encouraged me to go for it. After filling out all sorts of stuff to go on the trip and to get financial aid, my worst fears came true. Not only was the virus ravaging the globe, it especially hit Italy pretty hard. I was really looking forward to be able to go over there and learn more about the country's culture and history, but it's looking more and more like that won't happen for a while. I've never really gone out of the country before, so this would've been a very new experience for me. Even so, it's not that big of a deal. I'm sure I could always go another time when things have cleared up and the world is in a better condition. What I'm more concerned about is how it will affect other people in general. I imagine that tourism is a big facet of Italy, and that people not being able to come could hit them really hard in addition to its effects on internal affairs. While I'm not sure about what the outcome of this pandemic will be for everybody, I am sure that the world will never be the same after all of this.

I found a video on the app “TIK TOK” and these nurses were all dancing! It is extremely liberating to see healthcare workers staying positive throughout this extremely touch period. The video really showed me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This pandemic is devastating but knowing that we have amazing healthcare workers who are spreading positivity while saving lives is extremely raw and humbling.

Hmart is an asian market that carries a variety of food items popular in many different asian countries. It is one of my favorite grocery stores to shop at. It was also the first grocery store I have been to doing the pandemic that has i.plemented careful procedures for guest whose entering the store. First, the workers outside are keeping close count of how many people are in the store by monitoring the entrance and exit. They are also sanitizing all shopping baskets and carts at the entrance so guest don't have to touch them until after watching then be sanitized, and finally the store is giving plastic gloves to consumers who enter the store and do not have a pair. I also noticed while doing my grocery shopping that every single person in the store had some form of face mask on them, including employees. I know as time goes on more stores will implement similar policies, for now it seems like Hmart is adjusting well to the pandemic and taking the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. Seeing this just confirmed why Hmart will continue to be my go to store for supplies during the outbreak.

My twin brother and I celebrated our birthday in quarantine! Our parents dropped of some cake and we had a zoom party with them later that night. It is crazy to think that this might be our "new" norm when it comes to large gatherings.

I have become very fearful for what the future holds for a number of reasons. We are in a time of many uncertainties and truly do not know what the future holds. There are many implications about how society will be after all this is over. The first reason why I am fearful is if this is the new status quo. What I mean by that is, when there is a new virus that comes around, are we going to have to stop everything that we are doing and stay at home. Can we endure that multiple times as a country, because with just this our economy has skyrocketed downward and millions are without work. I am scared of a society that closes down everything and puts millions of people into hardship due to unemployment just because a new disease has arisen. What if this were to become a seasonal thing. Another thing I am very weary of is just how powerful the government has become in people’s day to day lives. I am hoping that after all this is over that the government’s power will retract to how it was, but I am not too sure it will. In my view of things, people in positions of power either try their best to keep the power that they already have or try to expand it. This is fearful because I do not want to live in a society where the government has major control on most civil liberties. Another reason I am fearful is the fact that people would be so willing to give up their freedoms as individuals for a false sense of security. People are so willing these days to just not question what is going on and just believe whatever they see in the news. It has gotten to the point where I feel like I can not speak my mind on certain things without being shut down instantly. I have been having long talks about this idea of trading our civil liberties for false sense of security. I keep saying “false” sense of security because in the real world you can never be truly safe. Security is not a fundamental human right so why would we be so willing to give up the rights that we are entitled to. I hope people will consider things like this in order to come out of this situation stronger.

This morning the first thing I saw on my social media pages was the announcement that ‘Asian giant hornets’ were spotted in the U.S. for the first time. On top of worrying about the COVID19 pandemic we now must worry about killer hornets. This year was supposed to be a new and great start for everyone but clearly 2020 is nobody’s year. A lot of people are trying to deal with all the stress of 2020 by making memes. I thought instead of having a negative entry for my post I would put together a couple of different memes that made me smile.

It has now been a month or two into the pandemic surrounding my local area. Many local businesses are never going to open again because they have been out of business for too long. Walmart is also out of fabric because people have been making a living off of masks now. 3 of my co-workers are even selling and sewing masks. How interesting is it too that now people are selling them with specific designs like sports teams. I just bought my grandma a patriots mask the other week for $7. People come in all the time for masks since I work at a grocery store, to begin with, we never sold that many. Now we have people ordering them through my previously mentioned co-workers and picked up later. I didn't even think that these would be a business.
