Trump has COVID lego movie
Last night around midnight, we learned that Trump tested postive for COVID. And I recognize it's not the most mature move, but this morning I woke up and started looking for Trump memes or memes about Trump. On Twitter I found the hashtag #TrumpHasCovid and found this video. It shows a lego representation of President Trump at a podium, and the audio plays several of his statements about COVID-19 and the pandemic. In the end, Trump gets run over by coronavirus (represented as a tomato) and it eats him, but spits out the tupet. Later, a street cleaner gets the tupet caught in his vechincle and it blows up. *humor, President Donald Trump, COVID-19 -

When a cough isn't just a cough...
I suffer from severe allergies pretty much year round... So occasionally I sneeze or cough a few times when the pollen is particularly bad. But now, with the pandemic, anytime anyone sneezes or coughs, everyone gives you 'the look.' I find myself automatically explaining my sneeze, "Allergy Sneeze... nothing to see here," each time, so when I saw this meme on pinterest, it made me chuckle! -

Limpieza integral

Proper way to wear a mask
Humor has become so important to our everyday lives. If the mainstream media were to be believed, it would be all doom and gloom. Sometimes, a laugh is just what the doctor ordered. Wearing a mask as one goes about their daily routine is a new concept for many, especially children, who might not really understand the reasons why and might be afraid. This particular photo of a German Shepherd demonstrating the proper way to wear a mask is both funny and helps make wearing a mask seem not so scary for children. -

How I've Been Occupying My Time to Not Occupy Spaces
Like most people, I have discovered an interest in hobbies that I never really had the time to indulge in prior to the pandemic. I was living in San Francisco, beginning the end of my college years and looking forward to what the future held for me and my beautiful, and not at all expensive, B.A. in philosophy that I was to receive in December 2020. Most of my friends were graduating in the Spring and I was so envious... that was until the pandemic hit. Everything moved so quickly. I had only 3 days to move out of my apartment, say good-bye the the people closest to me, and leave the city I've had the privilege of living in for the last three years. A city where I've scattered memories all over the place, danced through the streets with kindred spirits I hadn't met before, and developed a fierce love for my first home as an independent young woman. All stripped away from the palms of my hands, and in a matter of days it was the end of an era. It was the beginning of a global pandemic, something barely anybody had experienced before. The world seemed to only inhibit negativity and death, a cocktail very few people could take, and that's including a chaser. Sadness filled the air and polluted social media platforms. We all felt uncertain, scared, and alone. These feelings crept up, and leeched onto us. But one thing was absolutely certain, I had all the time in the world. There I was, 22 with no job and nowhere to go. There was nowhere I could go. So I did what any ordinary person would do in this situation, and I taught myself how to function the way humans did before social media and the internet. I learned to do some of the things that were once taught to young women in school with the intention of making them a qualified wife, but I called them hobbies. I learned to knit, embroider, sew by hand and by sewing machine, thoroughly clean a bathroom, and I also mastered the art of Mediterranean cooking. In the photo I have a attached I am showing off a scarf that I made in the first couple of weeks in quarantine. I playfully boasted my finished craft to my philosophy of nature class, and we all had a laugh. I miss that group of people. I do, however, find some happiness in being able to take a step back and slow down. The only reason I was able to do so was because I didn't have a choice in the matter. The world was crashing down right before my eyes and I couldn't do anything to stop it aside from staying home and staying away from others. What I think this narrative has to say about the pandemic is that people actually have the capacity to entertain themselves outside of the internet. Growing up I was always using the internet. I went from selecting my Top 8 on MySpace to watching prank videos on youtube to having class virtually. I have become sick of screen time that I have no choice but to pick something up to stay interested in the ordinary day to day. I've developed skills that could help me out in the future, if I could be so brave to assume there is a future of course. It is important for me to find some light, to find some joy. I giggled before this global pandemic, I've giggled during, and I will giggle after. Heck, I giggled while writing this personal narrative called an assignment. I have to giggle, it keeps me young and alive. It is important to find some light in all the darkness, and I think that's one of the most important things I've truly learned through all of this: To be the light you so desperately want to see. I've called that scarf my quarantine sqarf, and I can't wait to wear it for the rest of my time and then gift it to someone I love one day when I am old and saggy, if I am so lucky to get there. Stay safe and wash your hands. -

Portfolio of a JOPL Intern, Summer 2020, Lyn Ribisi
This is my portfolio for my 15 weeks as an intern working with The Journal of the Plague Year. I was anxious to learn the skills involved in gathering, creating, and archiving materials to preserve history in our lifetime. The pandemic of COVID-19 is a once in a century occurrence, and I felt it was very important to preserve our thoughts, emotions, photographs, jokes, and events that are shaping our lives now. Generally, I’ve been fascinated by archives and the potential they hold for telling our stories. I’ve also been frustrated by the lack of accessibility they all present. I’m hoping that the digital archive techniques we have employed will ease that problem. We’ve had the freedom to use tags (or, in archive-speak, folksonomy) to make the content searchable and accessible to all who come after us. In addition to archive work, my branch of historical interest is in the everyday lives of people. This digital repository satisfies both passions. Lastly, working on preserving the events of this pandemic has helped me find my way during this difficult time. I feel that I've been able to contribute--at least a little bit--and thus been able to be causative over some little part of this global nightmare. I am earning my Master’s degree in order to teach at the college where I work now. I’ve been functioning as a TA for the last several years as well as working as a classified staff member. I should graduate in May 2021, and become an adjunct. However, with all learning remote and the campus closed, hiring may be delayed. My mission is to inspire a love of history and the ability to think critically about the past and present. Too often history is still being taught as a memorization exercise of dates, names, and events. I will teach against that model and hopefully inspire a love of the past and its lessons and stories in my students. I want to thank all of our staff at ASU for delivering a professional learning experience—I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of it. -

Dig Deeper to Find Husband in Garden
During quarantine, families were forced to be together 24/7. That situation, along with the usual stresses of marriage led to jokes old and new. This meme shows that the wife buried her husband in the garden--we assume because she just. Could. Not. Take. It. Anymore. -

Lockdown 2020
I found the meme relevant because from march to now, the US still is not the same. We are having to adjust to a new "normal." This initial lock down was only suppose to be for 2 weeks, but it kept getting pushed due to people not following the stay at home order. It is now August, and some individuals still refuse to wear a mask to help protect not only themselves, but others. This year is definitely a year I would not come back to if I ever had the opportunity. -

I hear lots from the news about quarantine causing divorce rate increase.
Living in such close quarters is bound to cause arguments among couples. This causes an uptick in divorces at the end of COVID-19. The more anxious we feel may cause us to take that out on the person that’s nearest to us because there is probably no one else we can take it out on. My neighbor has this problem. Sometime I will hear them arguing about their children's problems. For me, I don't think it is a big deal, but they will argue it a lot. -

This is just a few of the many thousands of humorous videos people made during quarantine. "Oh my God they put a mask on the Big Apple"
A photograph showing a facsimile of an apple, several stories tall, with a face painted on it. On the face is a large piece of fabric tied to look like a mask. The Big Apple is a roadside attraction along the busy Toronto-Montreal-Ottawa corridor of Highway 401 near Cobourg, Ontario. Anyone who has travelled this route within the last 20 years or more is familiar with the landmark which has, at times, been billed at the World's Largest Apple, and is attached to an apple pie bakery. The caption accompanying the photograph says "OH MY GOD THEY PUT A MASK ON THE BIG APPLE" (followed but two emojis crying from laughter) -

Funny Progressive Insurance Zoom Commericals
These commercials are airing on Hulu now. They are all so funny and typical of people struggling to work the video conferencing. One shows an employee, not realizing that she's not muted, talking about the other people at the meetings. Another one shows people's internet cutting out. A third one is a whole conversation about what day it was--a common problem during quarantine when all the days were the same. -

Pets Have Conference about Owners Being Home all Day
The New Yorker has been consistantly running their famous cartoons. The recent ones have dealt with the issues we are facing now with coronavirus: quarantine, business closures, home schooling, remote working, etc. This one shows the local pets having a meeting about the quarantine situation. Grocery Store Patrons Do not Comply with Social Distancing
Guys! We're supposed to maintain social distancing! Some people, no matter what, just will NOT obey the rule. People crowd you wherever you go. Especially in checkout lines, people tend to crowd close. Once I worked up my nerve and told the gentleman behind me to please step back. He immediately lifted his arms about a foot out from his sides and started taking giant steps backwards, lifting up his knees, until he reached the wall of the store. Jeez! -

Why do D&D Players take coronavirus seriously?
A poster humourously referencing how players of tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons, which involve rolling dice, are acutely aware that while statistically 2% sounds are though it would not come off often, the way the dice roll may mean you get "2%" more frequently than average. It also refers to a "constitution score" which is a number added to a dice roll to determine if a player resists pain, poison etc. These concepts are applied to the statistics and response to coronavirus to make a point regarding those who don't take the virus seriously. It reads: "Why do / D&D PLAYERS take coronavirus seriously? / We've learned two things from experience: / A 2% chance of death is NOT a low as it sounds / No matter how high your Constitution score there's ALWAYS a chance yo'll fail your saving throw. / Coronavirus: It's Not a Game." -

Summer Plans Thwarted by Coronavirus
Summer is something that I have always looked forward to, either as a student or as a teacher. It is time to decompress, relax, and mentally prepare for the upcoming academic year. Usually a good summer consists of travel, music/art festivals, and a whole of mingling with friends and strangers alike. Although flights and cruises are cheaper than ever, social distancing and the fear of the coronavirus has limited opportunities to have a fun summer. It means getting creative with the ways that fun can be had in the middle of a pandemic. -

Looking Back on the Beginning of Quarantine
When the various stay at home orders were announced around the middle of March, I was optimistic that things hopefully would be managed in a fairly quick manner. Working from home, extra time to work on hobbies, zoom meetings, and the opportunity to drive less all seemed appealing. As time wore on, and various factors and wrong decisions meant that we did not as a country have this under control, staying at home lost its appeal. I don't think anyone wants to do this anymore. -

How the military handled Covid-19
This is a humorous tiktok showing the progression of the pandemic and how the military handled it.Initially it was put out to just be precautious and it very rapidly changed as the extent of the pandemic was grasped. For many military members it felt like they were constantly changing the level of precautions. It was initially viewed as similar to the flu by many and not taken seriously but as the pandemic progressed that changed.Although humorous this is an accurate representation of how many military members reacted during this time.
