On March 13, 2020, at 3:55PM, Catherine O'Donnell asked the question that generated Journal of a Plague Year. Within 5 minutes, Mark Tebeau & Richard Amesbury replied, and we were on zoom within 10 minutes. Within the next hour, Mark Tebeau had registered with Omeka.net and implemented the first iteration of Journal of a Plague Year, using Omeka Classic via the hosted Omeka site (at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media.).
Even though we all recognized the importance of the moment, the title reveals how ephemeral she thought it might be.

Rainy days seem to be the worst for my family. Especially on the weekend. Over the weekends my family tries to stay outside for as long as we can. But when it is raining however, that is when the cabin fever starts to kick in. We feel like we are all crammed in the house together and there is no where to go. We end up spending the day in our own corner of the house and then just come together for dinner or if we want to watch something as a family. These days are not that bad during the work week, it just makes it hard to get work done. On rainy days I just want to wrap up in a blanket and watch a movie.
When the day is not all gray and rainy, my parents and I love to sit out on our back porch and play with our dog. It feels like we are getting away from the house, even though we are still at home. We talk to our neighbors and we have even made smores with the family down the street. It is the little things like that, that make quarantine a little more fun.

Most animal shelters are short staffed due to the virus, making it difficult to take care of all of the animals. The public can help by fostering and adopting dogs from their local animal shelters. With most of the population staying at home, it can get lonely, and what better way to cure that empty space with a furry friend! I've recently adopted a 6-week-old pitbull puppy named Ace (pictured). He's definitely made these difficult times more bearable and brightens my day up everyday. If we have to spend our days quarantined, I'm glad I'm with him.

“As the First People of this land we carry the genetic memory of the devastation pandemics cause, but in this present moment of crisis we are one tribe,” said David Sickey, Tribal Chairman of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana. “COVID-19 does not discriminate. The virus doesn’t care what ethnicity we are or what our political ideology is. We are facing an invisible enemy that we must unite to defeat. The CoV-2 Rapid Test brings visibility to this faceless foe so that our heroes on the frontlines, the doctors, nurses and first responders, know where to take the fight and how to treat our fellow citizens who have contracted the virus. Fear is stoked by the unknown. With these tests we can reduce the fear factor for people across the United States.” #IndigenousStories

The local church near my parents' house in Chesterfield, MO (where I'm currently quarantined) had a drive-thru style blessing on Easter Sunday. After a priest stood a good 6 feet back and sprinkled holy water on our car, we were directed to exit past a costumed Easter Bunny who waved as the cars left. I snapped this photo from the back seat. To me, the photo is a symbol of hope and human optimism in the face of a crisis, however, at the time of taking it, it struck me as more sad and detached. Something about an Easter Bunny standing outside his car with the trunk open just struck a chord.
