This is a recent image of the tourist attraction, that is Myrtle Beach. As a life long local, if you were to tell me in April our beaches will be empty, under any other circumstances I would not have believed it. This really gives us who have been to Myrtle an understanding of the severity of this pandemic.

This week I have done nothing but school work and bake. I have had so many reciepes that I have wanted to try for so long, and I finally have the time. They have all come out pretty good, except my sister burnt one batch of peanut butter cookies. This week the Stimulus package is supposed to be distributed, so we will see how long that takes. We also found out this week that there has been a federal addition to unemployment, which will help a lot of Americans keep their homes and vehicle payments on track. This is honestly turning into quite the financial disaster, especially if the government does not make good on their promise.

People are still out taking walks in the park. Everyone stays at a distance from strangers but not from the people who they presumably live with, so there's a strange mixture of distance and closeness.

Today was the first day I have left my house since the stay at home order was placed in New York. I did not expect things to be this quiet. I live in a busy-ish town and there was nobody on the road on my way to the grocery store. We have picked today to run all of our errands so we can limit our time outside. People in the grocery stores are all wearing masks and gloves, and the vibe is very off. People are scared of getting too close, scared of touching things, scared to bring their children in the store. I have checked on my aunt who lives in the next town and is a recovering cancer survivor, and she is doing well and doesn't need anything from the store. As of right now, there is no end in sight to this stay at home order.

Our congregation in Dallas, Temple Emanuel, put a huge amount of effort into creating a virtual seder. About 250 computers participated, probably about 500 people. Our clergy led, and congregants also participated by reading the Hagaddah. We don't have a collective congregational seder tradition, so this is an innovation for Covid-19. Our clergy, rabbis and cantors, put in a lot of effort organizing this. This picture is of one of our senior cantor. She has equipment at home now to lead virtual services, a reflection of the resources and effort it takes to keep a large congregation going through this time.

I never thought about how everyone normally touches the food at the farmers market, until they put up these signs preventing it. This will make us think differently, I think, about many of our normal routines if and when we do go back to normal.

Today, unlike a week ago, the air was very clean and light. During the day I discovered that I ran out of cleaner and some food. Instead of going shopping with my family or friends I go alone. Limiting trips to the store has become normal for my parents and friends. Although I knew most of the supplies were out at some of the local markets I decided to call one of my friends. Using my cell phone I called my friend Malakar. Both of us talked about how we were laid off recently and didn't have much to do. We both discussed about how Mexico wasn't dealing with the pandemic very seriously. The president of Mexico gave a speech to reassure the public and remarked how they should treat it as a common cold. I remarked that Mexico has less ventilators for the sick than any given state in the U.S. Both of us sighed. Then I shared what I inferred. "If this keeps going until the summer the people in Mexico might come here for help." My friend shared the sentiment but also added that our borders would close long before the summer starts. During the summer temperatures in Arizona reach over one hundred ten degrees. If there are any surfaces outside the virus would be burned from the sun. He changed the subject to how the governmental loan for the small restaurant businesses are going to be in effect for 4/13/2020. Both of us agreed that we will have some money coming in from that and how the restaurants must employ us for seventy five percent of our regular hours or the loans must be repaid. After discussing what the next week would look like I asked him about any local markets I could find cleaners. Most of the paper goods and cleaning supplies were out at the local Food City and Fry's. Fortunately one of my friends pointed out a Halal Grocery store that had some cleaners and good bread still. Traveling to this store there was very little traffic. Most of their pita bread was gone but they still had some toilet paper. Most of the employees wore face masks and kept their distance. Inside there was a deli that had an assortment of fresh meats. Most of the prepacked food was still there. This place gives out punch cards if you're a regular customer. Inside there is also a restaurant that can make gyros and other lunch foods for a fair price. Thank goodness that there are reliable places like this in these trying times.

In the triangle of counties in North Carolina, there have been 38 new cases of COVID-19. This means that North Carolina overall has over 3,000 cases as of April 1st, 2020. North Carolina has been at a stay-at-home order since March 30th. The attachment is a map created by David Raynor and specifies where the most abundant cases are located in North Carolina. This has caused great concern, like North Carolina, and many other places, are having shortages of essentials, such as bread, water, milk, and toilet paper. Grocery stores are limiting customers inside the store, and people are waiting over 3 hours to get their groceries.

Today marks my 7 year anniversary with a major airline right out Phoenix Sky Harbor. Although I wish circumstances were better, there has never been a day where I've seen the airport so empty, a ghost town. Due to COVID-19 we have dropped nearly 75% in revenue. In fact, most people think of the airpot as dangerous but when I go to work I only see other co-workers walking around, which is less than the grocery stores at this point. It's sad to see all the vendors and stores closed down. We all know this will take a while until things pick back up, months even. Until then we are all washing our hands, disinfecting everything we can, avoiding touching passengers boarding passes and remaining in high spirits.
