This image is part of a series exploring the role of language, typography, and presentation in informing the larger public. The rainbow sign is part of a movement in my community (and many others on LI) to engage children as they go on walks with their family. Businesses and families alike have drawn rainbows and put them in their windows so that kids who are out playing can count how many rainbows they find while on a walk/bike ride and try to find new rainbows the next day!

2020 is a special year. At the beginning of this year, a new coronavirus appeared in China. The virus quickly spread throughout China. At first, we thought it would be controlled soon, but we did not expect this to happen.
As the time for the start of the school approached, the school also issued postponement of the start of school, and could not go out. We just took long classees at the computer. Although it is similar to the class at the school, but I still prefer to go back to class on campus so that I can play with my friends better.
I hope this epidemic can pass quickly, come on!

During March, my collogues and I went to California for spring break. At that time, COV-19 was on the rise, knowing this, I was expecting to see less people when we visited Hollywood walk of fame. But it was quite the opposite. It looked pretty normal, showing that not many people take the corona virus seriously.

I have the VicEmergency app on my phone to warn for bushfires. Around mid March, I started getting daily warning alerts from the app, initially for contagious disease in my area, and then for pandemic in my area. The alerts usually come between 5-6pm and provide information on the latest public health advice and restrictions. On Friday 27 March the alert from the app was particularly striking. One of the instructions, highlighted in bold, told people "If you can stay home, you must stay home. If you don't, people will die." This felt like very dire warning from what is otherwise rather a dry app with very practical instructions.

A local icecream shop called FRESH was one of few local shops still open in for more than just delivery. They had a service window where they still served icecream from while patrons waited outside. We had initially stopped because the shop had put out large bowls of water for dogs to drink while they were on walks. We stopped because the park close by had shut off the water to the dog water fountain. They also served doggie sundae filled with chilled peanut butter and dog treats in a convenient to-go container. Loki loved the treat and thanks to the water they left out he easily finished his walk without needing help.

Chalk messages on a green way path. For miles this greenway path to park and nature area had sporadic messages through out with motivational and comforting sayings. I had noticed children going out to the path and leaving these messages for all to see. It was nice to read these things and know that while practicing safe social distancing not engaging in close conversation with other while on walks that others can communicate their feelings and connecting with others using only a few words.

About a week ago, my folks and I had to make a mad dash to my college resident hall to salvage all of the stuff in my room. My dad made extra sure to let me know how it important it was that we got the toilet paper from my room. The whole experience was really bizarre. For starters, there was actually parking spots in the parking lot, something the school is usually pretty lacking in. In addition, the place was practically dead. There were some other students coming to get their belongings as well, but it was pretty much just me and my dad walking up and down the hallway. Considering it was my first year at college, it was a little depressing moving out so unceremoniously. Everything had to be quick and orderly. No time for goodbyes or anything like that. I almost feel like I'm missing out on the college experience a bit.

Both of my parents drive for a limousine company. This week, one of them was to drive an old woman to do chores and grocery shopping. All she needed from the store was toilet paper and ground beef. She was not able to find any in any of the stores they had tried. We could not let her go without any, so we gave her some from home. Why are people purchasing so much stuff at once? It's like they had decided to start stockpiling as much as they could get there hands on.

Since we've been in quarantine, my family and I have been spending a lot of time together. Every day feels like the days are getting longer and we run out of things to do. A couple things that we have been doing are playing old games that we haven't in years. We pulled out the old Wii and have been playing games like Mario cart and Wii sports. When that gets boring we play card games and teach each other ones we don't know. Games have been a big part of quarantine life so far. It's given me more time to spend with my family because with our busy schedules, that gets cut down sometimes.

I think this picture really resonates with everyone in the pandemic. I do nothing but stay home every day and eat my food. So the only thing that increases is food spending and belly fat. Isn't everyone like that?

During the closure of the city, all the residential areas can only have one entrance, and other entrances and exits must be blocked. Sharing bicycles has become an ideal material for roadblocks.
