Food Creations During Quarantine
Pre-Quarantine, there was the opportunity maybe once a week to cook something extravagant for dinner; it was always a treat coming home from work and having the house already filled with some aroma that made instantly remember just how hungry I was. As quarantine limited both other responsibilities and the opportunity to go out to eat, the chances to experiment became more frequent. My grandmother had previously run a restaurant years ago, so this became my opportunity to sous chef and learn some of the tricks of the trade. The infrequent aromas of 2019 were replaced by the almost daily culinary adventures that we went on, be it cooking, baking, or anything in between. For myself, and so many others, baking definitely become a type of release to combat the mood swings and general boredom that quarantine offered up on a daily basis. For my cooking escapades, I would usually stray towards the foods that offered comfort, either through their taste or through their smell. Not being restricted by a mask indoors made the simple act of inhaling that much more enjoyable. There was something that was comforting about having those smells wafting through the house, almost a sense of nostalgia not so much for pre-quarantine but for childhood maybe? -

Grocery Store Reminders
Grocery stores have altered the way that their stores function to accommodate for the new guidelines put out by the CDC. At the local Stater Bros store, this mean plastic barriers at all registers, tape on the floor to show proper social distancing, and the halt of the usage of reusable bags brought by the customer -

New Restaurant Rules
From the inception of the coronavirus crisis, businesses across the spectrum have had to adapt their operating procedures. For restaurants, this proved to be a tricky adaptation. As dining halls closed across the world, restaurants moved towards offering curbside pickup for almost anything that they sold; this included alcoholic beverages. Now, it is not unusual to see advertisements offering up a full pitcher of margaritas or the like, able to be ordered and picked up curbside. -

Reopening Perspectives
As States and businesses across the country reopen, there appears to be a divide on what is best practice. One camp is of the opinion that we should go back to how we were pre-quarantine, and should treat the virus as something that has passed. The other camp desires a reopening that is done cautiously, guided by medical/scientific data. Memes are reflecting the divide. -

Post Office Safety Signs
Most businesses in Orange, CA closed when the governor first announced the stay at home order in mid-March. One of the businesses to stay open is the post office. It has become all the more important as people try to stay connected and still continue with daily life as best they can. The Post office has a number of safety measures put in place for their customers: signs like the picture above listed in about 8 languages, plexiglass dividers between postal worker and attendant, and signs on the floor to practice social distancing. *Original text in Contributor: Joey Dorion took the photograph -

About Sar Cov-2
Before the pandemic had morphed into its current situation, Sarah Munro, a student at Columbia's School of Public Health, created an overview that was shared with friends and family members. It was meant to provide a resource to answer basic questions such as: how long will this last, should I wear a mask, etc. Although she is not a doctor, she is studying epidemiology and other related fields concerning diseases. Her belief was that some information is better than no information. Sarah Munro is the original author, Joey Dorion is publishing per her request Early March, exact date unknown -

Costco Cleaning Procedures
Costco has made it the policy now that at cash registers, after each use by a customer, they will be disinfected by a team member with paper towels and a cleaning solution. In addition to the plastic barrier present at each register, this is to help slow the spread of the disease. -

Checkerboard Notices
Since the quarantine was declared in California, the local branch of Wells Fargo that I use has been filling up their windows with more signs and announcements. With each new development or health recommendation, a new sign went up. It has reached the point where you cannot look through the doors anymore because of the number of postings. -

Sidewalk art from some of the children in my local neighborhood expressing optimism during a time when it is in short supply.
As children in Orange County have been out of school, they have been putting in time and effort to try and brighten the mood around the neighborhood. This image is but one of many that I have stumbled across walking throughout my neighborhood, each one with inspirational messages about how we will get through this. -
