There have been about 1.07M COVID cases and 15,000 deaths in my area, LA county. Worldwide, there has been about 100M COVID cases and about 2 million deaths. 2 of my cousins have gotten COVID along with my teacher. Luckily they have recovered or are recovering at the moment. This global pandemic has been a scary experience and as some kids say, very not poggers. -

Symptoms of COVID-19
When you are given COVID-19, there are many symptoms you can have. Such of these are fevers, coughing, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, etc. They are very horrible symptoms. My cousin and my teacher have both gotten COVID-19 and shown these symptoms. They are recovering and are good right now. However, we don't know the long term effects, and I hope they stay well for a long time. -

Procedure during COVID-19
During COVID-19, there are many procedures you have to follow. We had to stay inside our houses. It has been about a year-long process. At first, it was fun adapting to a new lifestyle, but after a while, I wanted to go to places and it was starting to get boring. However, I was able to talk to my friends over the phone and through a chatting application called discord. Another procedure was staying six feet apart. With friends, this was not so bad of a rule, but with family, it is always nice to be able to hug your loved ones. However, we would use air hugs and it was kind of fun. Overall, COVID-19 procedures were fun at the start, but over time, they would get boring and we had to find new ways to get around it. -

Remote Learning During COVID-19
During the quarantine, we still had to go to school, so we switched to remote learning. Using a meeting application called Zoom, we could talk to each other and continue our classes. We would start every day at 8:00 and end every day at 2:45. Our classes were divided into A days and B days. Half our classes were on A days, and the other classes on B days. We would get breaks between classes which was a total plus. However, we also had to adapt to something new and strange. It was hard but a great learning experience. Overall, online learning was hard to get used to, but it will be a useful skill to know in the future. -

The Origin of COVID
I was first told that COVID-19 was started because of bat soup that was commonly sold in Asia. Bats are known to carry many diseases and I was originally not surprised by the cause of this virus. However, I now know it was a man-made virus and was developed and let loose in a lab. With this information, I thought it was a lot different than bat soup. I was a little surprised at hearing this information, but it was starting to make more sense over time. The origin of this virus is now known to me and I now know that we need to be more careful when experimenting. I also know that we need to prepare for other pandemics in the future. -

My COVID-19 Christmas
Over my Christmas break, I had a very similar Christmas to a normal one. I got the gifts that I had wished for and I went to San Diego. This has been a tradition in my family. We went and stayed on a marine core base and stayed in cabins on the beachfront. We went on bike rides through Pacific beach and we had pizza from Big Bob's Pizza. We had a great experience, however, we had to wear our masks everywhere. In every store, restaurant, or town, everyone was wearing masks. Aside from this minor inconvenience, my family and I had an incredible time over Christmas break and in San Diego. -

My Life Before COVID- 19
My life before COVID was nice. I could go places, see friends, and have a fun time at school. However, when I heard about COVID - 19, I thought it would go over quickly like the flu. But it turned into something much greater. And it was terrifying. But with the help of family and friends, we can make it through this pandemic together.
