Mask Pollution
This is an Instagram post by discarded_face_masks_uk. This is an account that shows people that have left their face masks on the ground, thus making it worse for the environment. Hashtags like #coveryourface do imply that they still want you to wear a mask, but are against people accidentally leaving them on the ground. This helps speak of a larger issue where with mask mandates in places in some areas, it leaves more opportunity for people to litter with their face masks, as people will take them off at times when doing certain tasks or if they think they don't need one in some specific area. -

Madison Orpheum Theater Covid sign
In March 2020 Wisconsin had a state-mandated two-week lockdown. So, I went out with a camera (with a zoom lens that wasn't needed) and took pictures of the closed signs on businesses and of how desolate Madison was. -

New Adventures due to Quarantine
These two images were taken when my sister and I went to an abandoned train tunnel and explored it. Being stuck in quarantine has brought us back together and outside yearning to explore new places. -

Downtown Boston Deserted
The beginning of Spring would normally have the North End and downtown Boston streets bustling with locals and visitors taking in the season after a long Winter. As the business shutdowns and stay-at-home advisories associated with the COVID-19 outbreak have gone into effect, the streets are very quiet with very few moving vehicles, and only a smattering of social distancing locals walking around. All the tourist and community sites are nearly abandoned as shown in this daytime photo. -

Long-Term Changes?
Today I decided I would do my run outside with my dad. We stayed pretty close and only went a mile out from the house, two miles total. On the run we passed my old elementary school and there was caution tape all around it. This made me feel like I shouldn’t be outside. I was only outside for twenty minutes though and I stayed six feet away from everyone I saw on the way including workers and even my dad. Also, I listened to a podcast which discussed something I really got to thinking about. It stated how the last time we were in a national state of emergency was 9/11. Before 9/11 you could just show up to the airport and get on your flight and go, but after the tragedy the government put up a lot of security in airports and now, we have to wait in long lines for police officers to look in our bags and sometimes pat us down. The last national emergency changed the world. We may think that the social distancing, quarantines, mask wearing, hand sanitizer, and elbow shakes instead of hand shakes are just temporary, but the reality is some of these things might stick and become a part of our world. It is a crazy thought that you might always have to carry a mask with you to the water park, school, etc. However, it could happen. Ultimately, this pandemic will change the world. *Original text of "Creator:" Nicole Dumitrascu #LSMS #NSD -

Covid Playground
This is a photo I took while out for a walk at a park that I grew up by. It was a park I had been going to all my life, and a playground that saw me as a 3 year old. Never in my life have I seen it closed. But on that day, I saw a sign that declared it closed until further notice, to stop the spread of the virus. It was straight out of fiction to me, because I had never seen anything like it. I was shocked, and had another of the (too common nowadays) moments of "wow, this is really happening." -

A Dark Green Mill In Daylight
The historic Green Mill Cocktail Lounge in Uptown, Chicago, has long been open from 12PM to 4AM 365 days a year: the marquee lights blaze in the daylight and twinkle invitingly once the sun goes down, and you can hear the faint blares of trumpets and saxophones. This bar has long been a haven from modern life for busybodies and music-lovers alike, where they can relax in the relic of the jazz age, myself included. For three years now, I have been going to the Green Mill every Tuesday after my bartending shift. However, Covid-19 has forced the bar to close its doors and to turn off its lights. Uptown feels lost without its guiding beacon, and its presence is one of the few aspects of regular life that I genuinely miss. #DePaulHST391 -

China's Animal Shelters Can't Cope With the Number of Pets Abandoned Due to COVID-19
This is a story published by Time magazine. Due to misinformation and fear that COVID-19 could be spread via animals, a substantial number of pets in effected Chinese cities have been abandoned or euthanized. Animal shelters in the country report they are overwhelmed with the number of animals which now need care. Current research suggests that pets are unable to contract the COVID-19 virus, but fear and panic have gripped the citizens of the nation.
