(HIST30060) The 'Intimate Partner' Clause
For many experiencing the pandemic in Victoria, the intimate partner clause meant that our girlfriends, boyfriends, or partners were the only persons many young people were able to see - well at least legally that is. Initially, the intimate partner clause did not exist, which was heartbreaking for many couples that lived apart, facing the prospect of not seeing their partner for an unknown amount time, during an unsettling and unprecedented period. When the clause was introduced, it was a saving grace for couples. For others, it legally introduced a sneaky way to meet people inside their bubble, particularly after connecting online. I was lucky enough to meet my girlfriend during what was her first and my last on-campus class for the last two years - before lockdown was a thing. After facing the scary prospect of not seeing each other during the first stages of Melbourne's first lockdown, the intimate partner clause allowed us to spend every day for months and months between houses, happily isolating in our shared bubble and growing incredibly close. -

Resilient Child, Resilient Mom- Reflection on 2020
The first picture was taken April 29, 2020. Remote schooling was not going to end, we thought it would only last a couple of weeks. My child was falling apart, I was falling apart. The second picture was taken about seven months later, November 27, 2020. I had been furloughed, school opened up and then went remote again, we learned how to wear masks, we learned how to social distance. We joined the family bubble, in Illinois. I reflect in January 2021 and I want to note that we are figuring it out together. We continue to teach each other. The second picture is my favorite picture of 2020 that I took. I think this picture speaks to the attitude we are putting forward together. This is a picture of my daughter with her cousin, this picture gives me hope and energy. -

College Basketball During a Pandemic
Amidst this pandemic my college has been able to give me some sense of normalcy for my freshmen year of college. I was blessed with the opportunity to be able to go play college basketball at a small NAIA school in the middle of Kansas. So far this year I was able to start my season on time and we haven't had any run-ins with Covid other than one of our games was rescheduled due to the other team having a positive case but it has been my anchor though this semester. Everything is so strange now but I know as soon as I stepped on the basketball court everything melts away for those 2 hours. We don't have to wear masks around each other because we have created our own little bubble to protect each other and for that I am so so so thankful for. Like I said earlier basketball has kept me grounded. I moved 7 hours from home and going to college is stressful enough but moving 2 states away as a freshmen in college and during a pandemic?? Now that's stressful. Without basketball I would have dropped out of my school by now. This sport has kept me going because I know it is a safe place for my mind to let go of the stress that has built up these last few months and for that I thank God for protecting my team, school and conference from Covid-19 so we could have a somewhat normal season. -

"Well, Atlantic Canada is now bubbled up!" text
A text sent to a group chat of graduate students now dispersed across the county. The writer is from, and is currently living in, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He is sardonically expressing frustration at the absurdity of a state of affairs where the province cannot provide some basics, but can make interprovincial deals to allow people to travel and associate with others in the Maritimes. -

Rooftop Dating in Brooklyn
This adorable young couple lived across the street from each other. He saw her dancing on her rooftop and wanted to meet her, so he sent his phone number over on his drone. They had a quarantine date via FaceTime (a video iphone app) and then met up for their first date while maintaining social distancing. He arrived in a giant hamster bubble with flowers!
