Protecting Our Family Members
This is a screenshot from season 12, episode 6 of Shark Tank. The screenshot shows Kirby Holmes enthusiastically showing off a picture of a dog wearing his and his cousin's product, K9 Masks. Their pitch to the Sharks goes like this: Kirby Holmes: "we live in a time when people are questioning the quality of the air they breathe, with an increase in smoke from wildfires, dust storms, and oh yeah, the coronavirus!" Evan Daugherty: "And while we've all gotten more comfortable wearing a filter mask to protect ourselves from air pollution and other threats, what about the ones we really love?" Both: "Dogs!" Even though this product's primary use is not for Covid, it still represents the lengths we went to protect our family members during these times. We all most likely participated in one of the following: - Zoom call family holidays and parties - Postponing weddings - Staying inside - Masking up ALL our family members...even the furry ones! -

The average life expectancy of BIPOC trans women in North and South America is 30 - 35 years old
The average life expectancy of BIPOC trans women in North and South America is 30 - 35 years old. In just the last week, six Black trans women were found dead in the US. Say their names: Bree Black (27), Shaki Peters (32), Draya McCarty, Brayla Stone (17), Merci Mack (22), and Tatiana Hall (22). BIPOC trans lives under the constant threat of violence + murder. We need to protect trans lives, speak out against these killings, and end the systematic devaluation of trans lives in our society, culture, and politics. Here are just a few orgs to get involved with and stay informed: @transjusticefp - a community-led funding initiative to support grassroots, trans justice groups run by and for trans people @forthegworls - assisting Black trans with rent + affirmative surgery @tgijustice - ending the human rights abuses committed against transgender, gender variant and intersex people in California prisons and beyond @blackxcollective - Black trans/Queer youth organizing using art, direct action & political education -

Black Boston COVID-19 Coalition's Message About the Importance of Masks in the Black Community
This twitter post by the Black Boston COVID-19 Coalition features a video explaining (interestingly with some subjectivity) the importance of wearing masks for the Black community in Boston Mass. It briefly explains the successful triumphs the U.S. African American community has had in fighting for their quote "civil rights" and "lives" and that they now cannot allow quote "the air" to kill their people and destroy their communities. A topic that came up in one of our weekly meetings a few weeks ago was the impact of "shame" on the behavior of people. This is exemplified by the elderly woman who stares disapprovingly at the young man who did not wear his mask. The subjective impression conveyed is that you should wear your mask because it is a shameful disregard for human life if you do not. This twitter post shows the efforts of the Black Community of Boston to raise awareness of the importance of mask use and shows the care and concern of the Black Boston community for its members. -

Rules for Covid-19
To help slow and ultimately stop the spread of the virus there are rules in place. One rule is to maintain six feet of social distancing. Social distancing is a good rule set in place. It is also an easy rule to uphold. Every open store or public place has social distance stickers placed six feet apart so that people are aware of whether or not they are socially distanced. Another extremely important rule right now is wearing a mask. Wearing a mask protects yourself and others. Masks are a part of everyday life in these times. These are very simple and effective ways to protect against Covid-19. -

COVID 19 procedures
A hard procedure to follow has been keeping 6 feet of distance between my friends. It is also kind of hard to breathe in a mask but its worth it to protect those I care about. -

Staying Lowe’s Safe During COVID-19
This is one of the many ways Lowe’s is doing its part to make sure their employees and customers are safe. Throughout the store these signs are a great reminder that everyone needs to comply with the requirements of maintaining a 6 foot distance to protect themselves and others from the spread of the illness. The placement of these are in prime locations where the store sees the most traffic. Social distancing is important for not just everyone but especially those who are at higher risk for severe illness for coronavirus. Social distancing crushes the curve, which means that these protective practices slow the rate of infection. As employees we are motivated everyday by our managers to enforce social distancing as much as we can to make customers feel safe while shopping in our store. Along with the signs we also have an automated message that plans periodically to remind the customers to social distancing and how important they are to us and always to have a Lowe’s safe day. -

Protect the Elderly not the 1%
This graffiti went up in April inext to the Prahran Market, Stonnington, one of the areas in Melbourne with the highest count of Covid cases, which is also very affluent. The reference may refer to the poor compliance to lock down procedures in this wealthier area, with many residents of the suburb attending the market and not adhering to social distancing rules. I took this image after visiting the supermarket next door to the market for essentials. I was distressed by the number of people socialising at the market and not complying with social distancing measures, and came across this graffiti immediately after. It struck me as particularly relevant. -

A pint of me
Because of the pandemic, the Red Cross has had to cancel thousands of blood drives and hospitals are experiencing a shortage. Although the thought of leaving the house right now makes me anxious, I wanted to do what I could to assist others in some way. The Red Cross has amped up its protective measures: temperature checks at the door, hand sanitizer at every step of the process, and even wrapping the stress balls in gloves. I'm worried about getting sick and hope to do my part to stop the spread of Covid-19 by staying home, but this is one thing I can do outside my house to protect others.
