Suspending the Northville Placid Trail Challenge
The Northville-Lake Placid Trail is the one long distance hiking trail (136 miles) in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Each year, hikers can receive an award for completing their hike of the trail, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Adirondack Mountain Club cancelled the challenge. -

This is the official guidance from the National Park Service Superintendent for the Appalachian Trail National Scenic Trail on the continued suspension of all volunteer activities on the AT. It is a continuation of a previous policy. -

Pandemic and Closing Trails
This is the official response of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) regarding the closing of hiking trails during the pandemic. The PATC is a volunteer organization with responsibility for almost 1,000 miles of hiking trails in the mid-Atlantic region, including almost 300 miles of the Appalachian Trail. -

The first person in our neighborhood to be diagnosed with Covid-19 spent more than a week in an ICU in Fairfax, mostly on the brink of death. Walking my dog today I saw this sign in his yard. It's nice to have some good news right about now. -

The Giving Tree (Linden, VA)
The Giving Tree, an organic market in Linden, Virginia (about one hour west of Washington, D.C.) shifts to online pick up only in response to Covid-19. The old country store across the highway remains open with no restrictions, because the owner thinks the whole pandemic thing is being exaggerated.
