Lindsey's Sample Exhibit: A Changing Campus

A sample exhibit for St. Mary's students

By Lindsey Passenger Wieck

Life at St. Mary's, a small Catholic liberal arts college in San Antonio, Texas, has changed dramatically in 2020, just as it has at all U.S. universities. COVID-19 has pushed us all to adapt and change as adopt new technologies, learn to engage with each other remotely, and try to keep each other safe. Campus has instituted policies requiring masks, changed the physical layout of spaces like the commons and the cafeteria, and placed signs across campus to remind us of these changes. While 2020 has brought many challenges, we've worked together as a campus to change.

Social Distancing on Campus

Campus Adds Socially Distanced Seating

The campus spaced out seating to ensure social distancing across campus

Social distancing is one of the best practices adviced by scientists and epidemologists. Campuses like St. Mary's have had to space out tables and chairs to ensure students, faculty, and staff stay distanced as much as possible. Classroom desks, tables and chairs in the cafeteria, and even picnic tables have been rearranged to help us stay safe.

Masks

Students wearing masks are a common site on campus now.

Dorm list upgrade: Masks are the new essential item to bring to college

On-campus students packed lots of masks when they moved into the dorms

St. Mary’s Mask

St. Mary's provided one branded mask to all students and faculty.

While many people are learning from home this fall, there are some students, faculty, and staff on campus. Masks are required of everyone present on campus, and so masks are an important item to have. St. Mary's provided everyone with a branded mask, even those that aren't present on campus, and we love wearing our StMU colors! On campus students need to have a ready supply of masks since they're required anywhere outside of your dorm room. The St. Mary's Fang Squad is a group of students helping to remind us all to wear our masks and keep distanced on campus.
