Description (Dublin Core)

“So, I lost my faith a long time ago. I grew up in a parochial school system and as I grew older I realized that I didn't believe what I was being taught. The covid-19 pandemic has really just solidified my beliefs that I don't believe in a higher power. I think that if a higher power did it exist they wouldn't let something like this happen.”

How has COVID-19 affected your faith or beliefs?
Speaker 2 0:06
So, I lost my faith a long time ago. I grew up in a parochial school system and, as I grew older, I realized that I didn't believe what I was being taught. The COVID-19 pandemic has really just solidified my beliefs that I don't believe in a higher power. I think that if a higher power did exist, they wouldn't want something like this happen.
Speaker 1 0:35
Thank you. Is your religious community still gathering? Or the religious community you were formerly a part of? How has COVID-19 affected your participation in your religious community?
Speaker 2 0:49
I mean, I, I'm not, they're not gathering anymore. I mean, most of the religious gatherings that I know of have been shut down or moved online. So, I know, that kind of makes a difference. COVID-19 hasn't really affected my participation in my religious community at all.
Speaker 1 1:21
Thank you. Is your religious community supplying or engaged any kind of community service and an attempt to help alleviate issues caused by the pandemic? If so, what are those efforts?
Speaker 2 1:38
So, no, I don't know. I live by several churches, and they haven't supplied any type of like community service or anything like that. So, and I also, you know, I participate in social media, and I haven't seen anything like that from the churches in my area. They mostly just say that they're shut down and they're not, you know, making any effort to support me really at risk.
Speaker 1 2:07
And are they asking for money from the visitors, even though these people aren't getting an income?
Speaker 2 2:16
I've seen some, you know, requests for money but-
Speaker 1 2:21
Interesting.
Speaker 2 2:22
-but I'm not sure why they need money if everyone's not working in America and have their doors closed, so.
Speaker 1 2:28
Interesting.
