A few days before the official national lockdown, people were panic buying and clearing shelves at store. Non-perishable foods such as SPAM, pasta, and other canned foods were being taken off shelves. Essential items such as Clorox wipes, toilet paper, rice, and bottled water also seemed to be popular among panic-buyers. Here are photos of two large stores, Costco and Walmart, where shelves were cleared and people were almost fighting over items.

Due to COVID-19, American Cancer Society, a high school club dedicated to raising awareness to cancer, held its Club Officer announcements through a Zoom call online rather than in person, following a Zoom interview.

During this scary time, I was able to create a youtube channel to channel my cooking skills and share it to the world. I was able to stay calm while cooking during this time, and I came up with loads of new recipes to cook, and my channel is called "Kooking With Khang"

My quarantine experience consists of online classes and assignments and I couldn't be more grateful. Online classes and assignments only take out a percentage of my day and after that I am free to do whatever I want. I'm grateful that all I have to do is homework because there are front line workers that are facing the very danger that has kept us inside. Their days are long and fearful while mine are in front of a screen.

This year was supposed to be my third year in swim season. Being in varsity swim since freshman year, I've always looked up to give everything I got in my races and maybe even try to break at least one record by my senior year. With COVID-19 cancelling our entire season of swim, I was shocked in many ways because I have never expected the sport I'm passionate about to be cancelled. Not only was this tragic, but also all the hard work that I put into to make CIF 2020 went down the drain. I don't even have a pool in my backyard and when the pool opens back up again, I will be as sluggish as ever. COVID-19 affected my physical abilities in general and as I attempt to exercise with different methods besides swimming such as the popular Chloe Ting's workout, I barely saw any result and gained 7 lbs in the process. Thank you COVID-19 for ruining my swim experience.

My story is a simple one. Day after day is an assignment from my online classes and I am extremely grateful, because my day is safe and secure. On the other hand, there are people on the front lines constantly exposed to the dangers that are keeping us all in.

So in the begging of the covid 19 we didn’t take it serious well I didn’t i felt this was going to blow over in a couple of weeks and we would be able to go back to school like if nothing happened. I never expected for the virus to explode the way it did. It has prevented me on finishing my first track season it has prevented me from going to see friends and family it has prevented me to go and learn and celebrate in school, and all this has me really conflicted i mean i know I’m not the only one but I’m frustrated that i can’t go out and live my best life, i can cant go and do hands on learning, i cant see my future as i did before i have been having some trouble learning everything is just crazy in the world right now.

All year my classmates and I have studied and worked in order to ace the AP tests. However due to quarantine we were unable to take the normal AP tests and had to take the online version. One year of work was graded with 1-2 essay(s) which is completely unfair. Due to the essays covering only a small portion of the year my classmates and I were annoyed. During the actual tests there were different prompts, all varying in difficulty, which is unfair. Many people often had trouble with the whole experience and there are several classmates that have to retake the test. The AP tests this year was a doozy yet I’m glad it is over. Hopefully a vaccine comes out soon and this pandemic ends because the future looks so hopeless.

Due to quarantine, we can no longer hangout with our friends to see each other without the risk of getting and spreading COVID-19. The only way we can all hangout and see each other is through a screen. Instead of looking forward to seeing our friends on the weekend, we have to resort a zoom call to see each other. This is important to me because I haven't even touched a sketchbook in so long despite wanting to learn how to draw.

Relatives from Mexico were supposed to visit during the summer since they were finally granted access to visit the United States. Unfortunately, those plans have been canceled and it is truly upsetting. They've never experienced a fun day at the beach due to how they live in the very center of Mexico, the city, and we wanted to make the most out of this opportunity they were given.

So before this whole global pandemic struck, my friend, I shall refer to him as Johnny. Johnny had a crush on this girl we'll refer to her as Emily, this is all happening during our junior year as of 2020. Anyways so Johnny and Emily worked on a particular project together most if not every school calls it the year book. So Johnny has a dilemma, he wants to ask Emily out, but he wants to keep things "professional" in the work place. And so being the great friend I was, I said to him, "Ask her out, what's the worse that could happen?" For about two weeks he holds off, talks to her, texts her, you know the usual. So the day he was going to ask her out was the day that the schools were shutting down for the pandemic. We were having shawarma, and Johnny was going to ask her out after our group meal. Unfortunately we get this email saying that schools are on lock down along with small businesses and other entertainment/activities. Unfortunately he didn't ever ask her out because of the lock down and barely even messages his crush. Honestly if the virus didn't hit Johnny might now be in a happy relationship, but unfortunately he isn't. I really feel for him, he mustered up all his courage to ask his crush out and the virus was like nope. Poor guy

This picture if relevant to what is happening to Asian Americans, they face hate crimes almost everyday ever since the outbreak of COVID-19. As a young student who is proud to be an Asian, living in America suddenly sounds like a scary reality that we don't want to face, afraid to be suddenly attack by people who believe Asians are the reason there is a global pandemic.

It was back in February or March. I had told my friend, who was freaking out about COVID-19 coming to us here in Grove, that we'll be fine, that there is not anything to worry about. I mean China is so far away- but it came so fast. No one knew March 13, a Friday, would be our last time seeing each other for who knows how long. It has been more than 2 months now that no one has physically seen me except my family. Don't get me wrong though. I feel much less stress, I have a better sleep schedule (no more eye bags), and I have good relations with my family. Therefore, I can not say I want out because I hate being stuck here at home, but I want out because this is not how I want to live my life. But yet, there are those people out and about and who are so upset with this lockdown that they go out and protest to open America up again, that I have to continue living a life I rather not live. Someone like me, who is a daughter of an ER nurse working in the COVID-19 tents sometimes, stays home and follows the rule can get sick. Without even going out! So understand me if I am infuriated with people like them. I am only lucky that my dad can make it home safe and that he has not gotten sick either. I'm still young and I want to explore and hang out with my friends and laugh all day long and eat new foods. Summer is coming fast and then it'll be my senior year of highschool. I have had enough, but what can I change? Nothing really. But I guess for the time being, I will continue staying home, doing homework, watching anime, reading books, and playing games, hoping that I can go outside again and be free with friends and family.

During this quarantine, my friends and I felt sadden that we were not able to see each other day to day anymore. We missed the company and speaking to each other face to face again. In order to stay connected to made several Tik Tok's together to pass the time. It was so fun to see the final product and have fun together again. During this pandemic it is really hard to go without company. Even with my family there seems to be something missing and that is my friends. Friends are everything and you must stay in contact no matter what or friendships are going to be difficult to keep up with.

NOTE: The following replica was not created by me but a few friends of mine. They gave me a tour and permission for some of my other friends to use this map for a Spanish Oral. This particular snap of this area is the same area my friends and I hanged out during lunch. Since a month and more has passed in quarantine, it was inevitable that I would dearly miss it. So when I joined my friend's server spawned at the school entrance, I was hit by a wave of pure nostalgia. I tried recreating the routes I got to classes. Not everything was exactly recreated perfectly, though I can still remember those areas by heart. As impressive and nostalgic it was, it showed that there could be potential in using virtual sandboxes to recreate real life facilities. Just imagine if Garden Grove High School required us to run Minecraft in order to go to school.

This painting on a polaroid was made on March 21st, it was the first time in awhile that I had finally gotten some free time. I had always had a passion for artsy activities although I was never good at them. I looked around my desk and found a ruined polaroid laying around so I thought I’d turn it into something pretty. When quarantined, I had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do when I got the chance to be out in the world freely again. I had wanted to see the cherry blossoms and maybe one day rack up enough money to travel to Japan and experience that. But with a lot of time on my hands and my sudden interest to paint at 10 at night, I grabbed my paint and brushed and started to paint the things I loved. This COVID-19 experience has opened my eyes to the goals I want to achieve as well as hobbies I want to experience, but of course I miss what I had before this pandemic, which is my friends and fresh air.

Friday the 13th has always been a superstition people believed in. I never really did until this year. It was the last day of the school year and the first day of true panic world wide. School was cancelled without warning and no one knew that that would be the last day we ever saw each other in the same setting.

I spent a lot of time in that place, you could say it kind of became a reality. Basically being stuck at home and working laboriously on schoolwork and studying for online exams such as the AP tests. The work only stops on the weekend where I can finally relax and do whatever I want. Once the weekend ends it's back to the endless labor and tiresome assignments that keep being piled on top of each other.

Coronavirus has affected everyone in some type of way. This meme accurately represents how many people feel about this year so far, and how it has been a not so great start to a new decade. Covid-19 has taken away many opportunities and places limitations on what we can and cannot do. Personally, coronavirus has prevented me from traveling this year, as I have canceled multiple trips to abide by CDC guidelines and safety precautions. While I was looking forward to traveling this year, I know it’s important to stay inside to keep myself and others safe during this time.

This meme resembles how COVID-19 can really be a very communicable disease. The fact that even being near someone who we love dearly can cause spread is already scary, and that we must try as much as possible to minimize the cause. To me, I want to stay home as much as possible to lower the spread of the virus, but at the same time I miss my loved ones and my friends. This meme may not seem important, but in reality it does show the tensions in society about how COVID-19 is affecting all of our lives.

The pandemic is obviously a bad thing. However, there have been a little bit of good that has come out of it. For example, many people now have the time to revisit and develop hobbies that they previously never had time for before the pandemic. Perhaps, they've even picked up new ones. For me, I got the chance to improve my photography and editing. I couldn't shoot people for obvious reasons, so I took my car out instead! The quarantine has definitely given myself and many others a chance to invest more time into the hobbies that we enjoy doing.

This photograph was taken as Garden Grove High School began to go into lockdown and at the time, students and even teachers did not take the situation very seriously. We jokingly said that “The school would never shut down over this! Yeah right!” I took this picture and posted it onto social media captioning it “pSa: donT tOuCh yOur FacE #coronavirus” using the capital and lower case letters to emphasize my sarcasm. As time went by I began to understand the severity of the problem at hand and took it more seriously. It just goes to show how fast the pandemic evolved from something that we heard about that was happening across the globe to affecting us and the tens of millions of people worldwide.

This was found on a website called talent recap.com, “Hate Crimes and Racist Assaults Against Asians In American Escalates due to Coronavirus”. It introduces the viewers to several events that had happened during the coronavirus and how many asian descents are discriminated for “being the cause of the coronavirus”. During this pandemic I have noticed how so many people are being assaulted from other ignorant people about how they started this virus and that they should be tortured or blamed for the things that has happened. This is important to me because one time when I was in public with my sister to get some groceries, we came with gloves and masks on because we know we have a weak immune system and we also tend to get sick easily so we came protected, but when we went in the meat isle to get steak, a couple was standing there with no gloves on or masks stared at us and walked by saying “Go back to your homeland you chink” while i was speaking in Vietnamese to my mom. I was so angry at that time but I remained calm because we were in public at that time, however it angers me that in events like the one on the website shows how a father and his kids were attacked, in this case stabbed, because they were asians that were seen in public. And it sucks that so many innocent asian people are harmed so much because of others being prejudice based on their ancestry of being an Asian.

This entry focuses on the transition to online learning in order to practice social distancing. Prior to the pandemic, I would have to wake up early to go to school. Then, I'd quickly run home after school, so that I would be punctual to my guitar lesson. As the tide has turned, this is no longer my reality. Now, I do online schooling and guitar lessons within the comfort of my own room, at any hour of the day. An hour of light-hearted life chats, bluesy riffs, and all sorts of musical banter relieves my good friend, guitar teacher, and myself of our quarantine blues. This is us, this is our quarantine lyfe.

A couple of years ago, I decided to paint a picture of the ocean because of how much I admired its beauty, realizing how lucky I was to be able to visit it in person anytime I liked as it was only a mere twenty minutes away. I would have never thought two years later in 2020 a global pandemic would occur and take away this joy in my life, keeping everyone all cooped up in their homes in hopes of slowing the spread of COVID-19. While it was hard to have to leave school in the middle of junior year, adjust to online AP exams, depart from teachers and friends, stop playing sports, and so much more, I know social distancing is a necessity during this difficult time. I understand this pandemic has changed many of our lives quite negatively as we have to isolate ourselves and sacrifice going out to have fun and socialize; however that does not mean people should flood the beaches or malls out of spite or as part of a protest against the government's orders. Though I wish I could go outside to an amusement park or beach with my family and friends, I know what's more important is respecting all the essential workers by staying home, and I hope more people are able to understand this bigger picture as well.

Many students have been impacted by the Coronavirus due to the continuation of school online. They aren't able to interact with teachers and their fellow classmates, leaving them unmotivated to do their classwork. I personally dislike the idea of online school since I'm not really learning anything and just want to get the work over with so I can just relax. Nothing is going through my head, leaving me clueless and unprepared for next year. When there are tests, I tend to have to refer back to my notes due to not being able to understand the concepts. AP tests are also very unfair due to the various prompts with different levels of difficulties. The Coronavirus also impacts my future school life due to the fear of not being able to return back to school. College systems are also changing amidst this epidemic such as phasing out the SAT and ACT throughout the years. This virus has a big and negative impact on our education. #OnlineSchool #GGHSAPUSH

My friends and I, went to visit our teacher down near the beach, there we also went to witness stupidity and people who we thought were only seen on the news and on the other side of America. In a safe, masked drive by, we saw maskless protesters flaunting their maga flags and hats, ignoring social guidelines, and protesting about not being able to get their haircuts and go to work. We witness stupidity and ignorance.

Every quarter, our Vietnamese teacher assigns us a project where we must film a video based on a topic we learned during that specific quarter. Normally, we would meet up in person to film the video, but when the pandemic became more severe and stay-at-home orders were put in place, we had to be more creative with how we filmed. Unable to meet up in person, we resorted to Minecraft in order to film our 3rd Quarter video, which was based on a Vietnamese novel we read in class. #GGHSAPUSH #distancelearning
