A standstill of work, shopping, and industry created eerie emptiness on Canada's roads in March 2020. 

In March 2020, many Canadians became very concerned about their health, their wallets, and the economy as the COVID-19 pandemic created a host of never before seen obstacles. Everything came to a crashing halt, from manufacturing and retail empires to small local businesses. Workers, employers, and governments did not know how, or when, the economy could reopen. Thousands of Canadians faced layoffs, with no guarantee of going back to work. Entrepreneurs feared bankruptcy. Workers in essential industries felt overworked and frightened. Governments had to focus all their attention on supporting citizens. Between March 2020 and March 2021, Canada saw a vast variety of government responses, business innovation, consumer demand, and plans for the future.
