I movedI'm a senior in their final semester of University. My dad is mentally unstable and my parents are in the middle of separating. I lost my housing when my University closed; even with a therapist's note about my family situation it was deemed safe for me to return home. My mom is staying with her sister in a 55+ community, so I had to return to my abusive father. Growing up he engaged in corporal punishment almost daily growing up. I have a constant level of anxiety whenever I am around him. As my parents have started to separate he's become increasingly mentally unstable; alternating between crying and hits of extreme rage. He provokes fights with my brother and I in hopes that we will argue back and he can escalate things to physical violence. Yesterday he left the door to the backyard open and let my cat out. After three hours I was able to find my cat, but I am now afraid to let him leave my room. My father can switch between emotions in an instant, and it makes trying to do my now online classes difficult. He's prevented me from finishing assignments. I'm starting a graduate program on the other side of the country this fall, and with the pandemic I'm unsure if my program will actually start. If it doesn't I will continue to be trapped in this s terrible situation. My brother and I plan on moving out to the area where my new University as soon as social distancing restrictions are lifted, whenever that may be.
