In anticipation of Golden Week - a roughly one-week-long holiday which typically sees a lot of Japanese domestic vacation travel - low-cost-carrier Peach Aviation made plans to restart flights to Amami and Ishigaki Islands.
Fearing the spread of the virus to these vulnerable island communities, many petitioned for the flights to be canceled, and not restarted. After some considerable efforts, the airline finally decided to cancel their reopening plans.

[Limited/canceled flights due to the spread of COVID-19]
Due to the decrease of use of flights caused by COVID-19, some of the operated flights within a certain time frame will be canceled/limited and the change in the road flight plan was submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism.
To anyone who has reserved flights, we deeply apologize for the inconvenience this will cause.
Reservation for the canceled flights will be refunded or switched to another flight from our company. Please read the information below regarding if your flight will be canceled, how to get a refund, and how to switch flights.
